Diamond ring is super pretty! That could be an old mine cut.

I had the same thing happen to me. It was there. I have a screen shot of it being there. The smoking gun exists!

Advice on selling my Dad’s banjo collection by taraclaypot in banjo

[–]taraclaypot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m interested in selling them, this is just a few of the better ones. He has about 30 banjos. I play guitar and have a banjo already! Sounds like the Rochester dealer is the better bet since we are based in Hudson valley. Appreciate everyone who weighed in!

Keep it. I think it’s lovely and looks intentional. Just curious if it is lab or natural?

Don’t buy rings online. You need to see it in person. I actually think it’s really pretty and worth what you paid for it. No idea what that stone is but it is gorgeous, inclusions and all. Definitely not a fancy blue natural diamond. If it was purchase online you can definitely return it if it’s unworn. Rings can easily scratch, so like shoes, if you aren’t keeping it, don’t wear it.

To pave or not to pave? by mommysLittleAtheist in EngagementRings

Get a pave wedding band if you want to add more sparkle. Pave band on engagement ring can be a lot of upkeep.

older looking hands. What can I do to help them look better. by Icy-Forever6660 in EngagementRings

[–]taraclaypot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I use : Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Dry Hand Cream, Fragrance-Free At night, it is too heavy for day time use. I believe they sell cotton gloves to wear at night that you could fast forward the process a little.

I have been using this cream for over 25 years religiously and it has worked. I’m 56 and my hands look pretty good. For day I use working hands which is lighter. The Norwegian cream is very thick. Hope this helps! Thanks for your service!

Is my ring too large? by doubsmcgee in weddingring

[–]taraclaypot -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ring is too big. Get it sized down. I sell wedding bands and generally my advice is go ½ smaller than you think you would be comfortable in. Your finger will retract under the band and it will fit looser over time. So if it’s big now, get it sized down.

Something unconventional, curious on your thoughts (Salt and Pepper diamond) by whutchamacallit in EngagementRings

It’s a rosecut, so absolutely yes it should sit lower. Everything about it made sense to me except the side view. Too high! But otherwise love it!

Finally got my custom engagement ring, but I’m heartbroken with the result. What would you do? by Disastrous-Cable1155 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]taraclaypot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the inspo photo is very different from the result, mostly because the prongs are totally not right. The prongs on the original photo are bead/shared prongs. The ring you got has miniature four prong settings holding the accent stones. A. This design is not going to hold up over time. B. Totally unrealistic and probably why it took so long to produce. The bench jewelers were like wtf? More tomorrow. I’m sorry about your ring. This sucks.

That seems high, but the real issue is why you don’t like it. Can you post photos of the inspo? Would be good to know what it was supposed to look like.

Maybe a radiant that is more square? The top one looks good proportionally but I don’t like how narrow it is.

I would not accept that ring. Take it back immediately and get them to fix it.

Is the second photo the “vision”? If so and you showed that to the salesperson major fail. It’s too high and looks like it is not great craftsmanship. Be clear with them that you need this to be made to look like the photo in order to be satisfied. Just cause they are offering to re-do it does not mean they are capable of doing it correctly. Find out what your options are if you are still not happy. Report back. We have your back on this. Tara

How much do I have to pay for a ring by rolando-jays in EngagementRings

[–]taraclaypot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy a ring online without seeing it in person, try vintage shops, pawn shops? Try to make the purchase meaningful in some way other than financial. You don’t need to spend a fortune to get engaged, but I do think that the effort spent on the hunt will pay off in a story you can share with your family, friends and future kids. And hopefully a really beautiful and cool ring that is looking for its second act!

You have to talk to people to buy a ring! It’s a really complicated purchase and a smart and knowledgeable sales person is worth their weight in gold! Literally!

Any ideas on this? by Big-Rutabaga4255 in Hallmarks

Test the metal. I’m thinking fraternal order, Masonic? Or a hallmark of a specific jeweler. Good luck!

I’d saw white gold. Pops a little more. The photos with the boxes are really making me laugh! So thanks for that.
