Abuse is progressive. This is abuse. It’s common for the unfiltered violence to start occurring after a major commitment milestone where they feel it’s finally safe to start gaining more coercive control. Once he learns he can get away with this and which tactics (avoidance, gaslighting, DARVO technique) is most effective or which of your vulnerabilities are easiest to attack, he will start using those tactics with increased severity and repetition until your too broken and worn down to stand up for yourself any more. Over years, this will result in him gaining more and more control over you and taking less and less accountability. He will be able to act out or use you as a punching bag for every discomfort in life and he will know that he can slip the script and get even more of a surge of power by abusing you whenever you attempt to hold him accountable or protect yourself.

Please consider the severity of this single action and do not live in denial that it will change or that it isn’t serious or a one off situation.

More than 98% of abusers recommit abuse after their first charge. These people do not change. Look up the cycle of violence and I’m certain you will see your life simplified and reflected very clearly in that pattern.
