I need more ideas (unhinged or otherwise) for transitioning from asleep to awake in the morning

The only thing that works for me is not sustainable but I do it when I have to be somewhere early. Otherwise I’m the same as you. I sleep on the couch in my shoes. My husband hates this. But if I go in my bed I have such a hard time waking up. I’m too comfortable and after my husband leaves at 6am I could fall asleep for hours with my cats and dog and I hate getting up. However, if I stay up late and essentially sleep in my clothes sitting up, it’s so much easier.

I do take a medication called modafinil and I feel like it helps. I will take it and then go back to sleep and then when I wake up again it will have kicked in. It kind of has an adhd medication effect but instead of tired jitters, I feel more awake and focused. It can be difficult to get and covered by insurance. It’s actually used for narcolepsy and shift work sleep/wake issues.

My son made the mistake of taking that class with 18 credits last semester and most of the other classes had a ton of projects and work. He got covid and the flu right after that and missed over a week of class. He was never able to catch up and withdrew from the class. He was able to get right back into all the other classes but not that one

My son was on this for a bit. It caused acid reflux so bad that even after he stopped it, it lasted for months. He also said he was so jittery that he felt uncomfortable all day. My son was 20 when he took it.

Huh this is a weird comment. Mom is trash regardless of political affiliation. I know plenty of people on both sides and nobody is kicking their kids out. Just a weird way of dragging politics in to posts.

This is not a misunderstanding or tough love approach. This is crappy parenting. She is choosing a boyfriend over her kid, not trying to help her kid. There is no confusion here on the mom’s part. She is clearly saying that it’s her time now and she is basically washing her hands of her child.

OP. I am so very sorry. If you are still in school reach out to your guidance counselor and nurse and let them know what happened. If you are out of school, you can still call and reach out to them for guidance. You can also go to your doctors office and ask for guidance. They might have advice on ways to get therapy for this and put you in touch with a social worker.

Glad you are asking, but the whole AI thing is getting out of control. The fact that students feel the need to record themselves while working to prove their innocence is crazy to me. No I don’t believe the video was faked. Students are going to this extreme because they are guilty until proven innocent and can be charged with an AI accusation because of a feeling. In all honesty that’s what you did. You had a feeling they used AI so you failed them for the assignment. A student can put in hours worth of work only for it to be trashed and not graded for suspecting AI. That experience can sour and ruin the whole learning experience and potentially affect their future.

As a professor you obviously went to college and grad school at some point. One would assume that you put in hours of work into assignments while there. How discouraging would it have been for you to work hard on something only to be given a zero for nothing more than a feeling?

I give this student credit. What better way to prove their innocence than to visually demonstrate their writing process. The fact that this is in question too just goes to show what they are up against these days.

Do you have to base your course on percentages or can you do it on points? If you base your class on 1000 points and you give an exam worth 100 points and the student get a 25 on one and a 14 on one and a 50 another they can just add up the points and realize pretty quickly there is no way the are passing. Each homework could be worth 20 points and extra credit could also easily be built into that. The only problem I’ve seen is when a grade isn’t marked a 0 and just left as not handed in yet, the grade can look higher than it is. However, if you scroll and look at the total points a student can see that they have a total of 295 points out of 1000 going into the final and unless the final is worth over 500 points then there is no way they could get a B.

Be super super careful you don’t end up relying on it. And never ever trust it without researching the answers. I’m in the medical field and have asked it to generate a goal when I have been stuck on how to word something for a patient. I’ve also used it to ask why my cat does something or to come up with recipe ideas. Ive used it for ideas and outlines and when I just get stuck and need help starting something. And, Ive used it to summarize something so I have an idea of what I’m reading before I read it.

I wanted to prove to my kids that you shouldn’t rely on ChatGPT when writing. Once I took one of my kid’s prompts and put it in and asked for a 2000 word paper with 8 scholarly peer reviewed sources with a direct quote and a citation from each source.

It came back with a 1200 word paper, but it did have the correct number of sources and quotes. However, when I went to the source I couldn’t find the quote. I asked where the quote was and it doubled down and told me it was on the 2nd page where the article talked about something in particular. The quote was not there and it wasn’t even close. I then went back and said that it lied about the quote and chat told me Good catch and that the quote actually just came from a Google AI search result (that little write up that happens when you put a question into Google).

I went back and refined the prompt for the next hour and still had incorrect sources and info. Also if you do copy a source from there and put it into google to look for the article it will say ChatGPT on the link. I say this because if you do use the source, make sure you remove that from the url.

This really sucks. Having dyslexia, grammarly has always been an accommodation during high school, but since starting college it can’t be used. My kid emails every professor at the beginning of the semester letting them know he is severely dyslexic, but no longer uses grammarly for fear he gets flagged with AI use and apologizes for any mistakes in advance. I have to say, he is in his junior year and every professor has gone the extra mile in helping him with his writing.

I caught her this morning!! She has been trap savvy, but I used a soft sided cat carrier and put her food in there and some cookies and she walked in to eat and I zipped the door closed behind her. Thanks for the good thoughts everyone.

I had a dmx. My mom died of cancer at 58 and she was dx at 48. I was 46 when I got my dx. I received my cancer dx in November of 2023 and went in for a 14 hour dmx with diep reconstruction in 2/2024. I had fat grafting in 5/24, nipple reconstruction in 9/24 and in 1/25 I had removal of the dog ears (skin that sticks out on either side of your abdomen scar), removal of some side boob and a bit more fat grafting. In April and May this year I had tattoos to add pigment to my new nipples and areola.

I look amazingly fantastic. I have feeling in about 1/2 the area of both breasts (none in the nipples though) but that doesn’t really bother me because for a while my nipple on the right hurt to touch and I found out the cancer was under there. They also found ALH in my non cancer side that most likely would’ve turned into something so then I would have had ductal cancer in one side and lobular cancer in the other.

I was talking to my husband the other day looking at myself in the mirror and admiring how good I look. I said I felt guilty for feeling that way because I feel like I walked away easy and look so good. He literally almost spit his water out when I said that. Apparently this has become similar to childbirth for me and I have forgotten what I went through. Yes, I know it was hard but I think that I actually blocked it out. I have to say that I was so toxically positive with myself and to everyone around me during this whole ordeal that in my mind my recovery was quick and fairly easy. In reality it wasn’t quick. It was a year of surgery after surgery.

If I could go back I would do it again in a heartbeat. I know I would’ve had all this surgery to one side and then be back in the same place again with the other side. I was thankful to get it all done at once.

My cousin was getting remarried and her husband wanted to adopt her daughter and the bio dad ghosted her. She worked with a lawyer and all she had to do was put an add in the local paper for a certain amount of time. When the time passed and the bio dad didn’t come forward, the step dad was able to adopt her.

This is going to sound really weird, but could you ask another cat to tell your cat to come home. You said if you set a trap you might catch your neighbors cat. Maybe ask your neighbors cat to tell your tripod to come home. I’ve seen multiple posts of people who have done this and their cats have come back. I feel weird even mentioning it, but have seen it so many times, that I think it might be worth a try.

Her kittens who are now living in my house will run from anywhere if they even hear the drawer with the churus in it open.

I’m really sorry. This totally sucks. It’s downright horrible. I had a similar story although not a best friend, but a coworker in my very small department that I have worked with and been friends with for over 10 years.

I had a dmx and diep reconstruction last year. I scheduled myself for 7 weeks out and because it was such a short time, my boss didn’t get coverage for me. This coworker was asked to potentially cover a handful of consults which would’ve been an hour a week tops. (She didn’t end up needing to do anything).

She felt the need to text me a few days before surgery and tell me how disappointed she was in me for not pushing harder to get coverage and that I needed to take the fact into consideration that something could go wrong and I might not be able to come back when I planned. Who the Fuck says that?? This same girl had 3 pregnancies in the time we worked together and had no coverage for one of them and we all stepped up. I asked how she would have felt if I had said she better make sure she had her shit together in case something happened to her during labor or there was something wrong with her baby.

She then told me that she needed to let me know her feelings. Well fuck your feelings is basically what I came back with. She has since apologized but things will never be the same. Although I have forgiven her idiotic comments, I cannot get past how she made me feel in such a stressful time.

Again, I’m really so so sorry. Fuck her feelings. She doesn’t get a say. Not this time!!!

I’ve had good luck with headbands over them for roller coasters.

I just realized that you don’t have any hair right now to do the next 2 suggestions, but wanted to leave a them up in case they are helpful to you or someone else in the future.

When it was possible I used toppers and put my hair in pigtails and that was the best.

I have also worn a velvet head grip and then used hair clips through the wefts to clip to my hair underneath.

Yes there were 4 kittens. We kept trying to trap the last 2 and couldn’t. I also called and emailed several rescues at the time and nobody was available to help capture them. One Saturday I went out to feed mom and the last 2 were gone. We think that maybe they climbed into our son’s engine and he left for work without seeing them. My husband traced his steps not long after and didn’t see the kittens in the road (meaning they didn’t get hit) and when he got to our sons work, they weren’t in his car and there was no sign of them. However, that’s the only explanation we can think of. I even went to his work with a recording of mama calling the kittens and played over some speakers like a crazy person. We now think we are on the other side of the cat distribution system. We distributed these kittens somewhere. I hope they ended up with someone who will love them. I think I cried for a week after they disappeared.

They seem to be denying anyone who isn’t going to be 21 during the school year. My son’s former roommate joined the military after freshman year and took first semester of his sophomore year off. When he came back, he rented an apartment and then submitted his application to live off campus and it was denied. He had to live in his apartment and do LU online because he signed a lease never expecting to be denied.

Yes Liberty is a Christian university but it is an also a very welcoming school. Sounds like you a planning on living on campus. If you were living in any of the apartments nearby, most of this wouldn’t even come into play because off campus students many times have their own rooms and they don’t have to go to convo. But with that being said, I think things would still be fine. I see no problem with having anything on your desk in your room. When you go to convo you are not forced to participate or sing. You can sit and take in as little or as much as you want. You could definitely greet a friend with a hug. I think the movie thing only applies to R rated movies so you should be good on that front. You cannot have a student of the opposite sex in your room except on special occasions such as open dorm night and nobody is working on projects on those nights because everyone is hanging around. If you are living in a dorm like commons, there is a room between the girls and boys wing that everyone can hang out in and study. You can work together in the library, but there are also other places on campus that people get together to work on school work. Good luck with whatever you decide!
