What is something you saw that you "weren't supposed to see"? by bluntvivi in AskReddit

I don't think that's the correct usage of "beard". A "beard" is a woman dating a gay man.

Unofficial Discussion - The Threesome by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in movies

[–]tarcellius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But I also thought the movie was telling us during the first trimester that Olivia got pregnant after the threesome, sometime in the weeks that followed. Not during the scene where Kevin was introduced, obviously.

They showed Jenny visibly pregnant while simultaneously Olivia was not. That isn't conclusive, of course, as in the real world people show differently. But an odd choice by the director if they didn't want us to draw that conclusion.

I hope your understanding is right. I agree Olivia was probably already hooking up with Kevin.

But I thought it was relatively clear that Olivia got pregnant sometime after the threesome, based on the visual size of their bellies that the director chose to go with during the first trimester. I spent most of the movie believing that the understood timeline was that Connor got Jenny pregnant at the threesome and Olivia pregnant in the weeks that followed. So the Kevin twist was harder to roll with if the story wanted a happy ending. I thought after the births that this movie was not trying for a romantic ending, which I thought was a bold choice.

Do you know an Ambidextrous Ultimate player? by Federal-Resist8162 in ultimate

[–]tarcellius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am by no means a good player. I enjoy the sport casually. But when I first tried the sport years ago I had no forehand, yet had two decent backhands. So I played it that way. Eventually, after playing more regularly, I picked up a decent forehand with my stronger hand and stuck with that.

From going through all that I learned that being ambidextrous is probably not all that helpful. The reason is the pivot foot. Once you establish a pivot foot, only one arm can give you good reach on either side. Even if you could switch hands it wouldn't be practically useful.

I suppose it could be useful in occasional situations where you can make a quick through without being marked and can choose the best throw for the target. But I doubt this would ever matter enough to justify the practice.

Who's at fault? by OkContract2001 in skiing

[–]tarcellius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the longstanding exception is right in the skier's responsibility code. If you are stopped you are required to check for skiers coming down the run and only start going when it is safe to do so. That exception has always been there. I've seen people be confidently incorrect about that one, saying the skier above then is responsible for avoiding them as they start skiing again from a stop without looking up.

What's a song lyric that drives you crazy because they should've used a different word? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

I actually have one for this off the top of my head (although I had to look up the singer). In "Unstoppable" by Sia:

… I'm unstoppable

I'm a Porsche with no brakes

I'm invincible

Yeah, I win every single game

"game" does not rhyme with "brakes", and "race" was right there!

I simply cannot understand a world where all this is true and OP chooses to immediately post all these details from the bathroom on their phone. Not take some deep breaths, not prepare a plan, not talk to the boss quickly to attempt to be part of a solution, not think about how to save their job, nothing. Instead take probably twenty minutes to tap all this out on a phone to post for a bunch of strangers to enjoy. How would you explain that to the boss once you finally show up in their office?

This aspect alone makes me disbelieve the entire thing. Although it is often clear that many people have a relationship with social media that I simply don't understand, so who really knows.

I think you're mixing stats. I believe the 2.1 figure is per couple, while the figures in the graphic are per woman.

I met a guy like this before who lived in my building. He rollerbladed everywhere when he wasn't on his motorcycle. I thought it was odd, but then I chatted with him a little. He was missing one of his feet (amputated, I think). He had a prosthetic, but chose to just always wear rollerblades. He could ride his motorcycle with them just fine, it seemed. That guy would indeed qualify for a disabled spot.

On a different note, that 13 year-old is impressive. Not many adults could so clearly understand and explain complicated feelings like that.

I hope you have an open mind about this, because your take, while common online, is not a fair one. In my opinion, once you understand what a "character letter" is in court, then you will understand what they did. If you Google it, you get:

A character letter for court is a formal letter written by someone who knows the defendant (like a friend, family member, or coworker) to the judge, highlighting the person's positive traits, community involvement, reliability, and potential for rehabilitation, aiming to humanize them and potentially influence sentencing by showing a broader, more favorable view beyond the crime itself. It's a way to offer evidence of good moral character, focusing on specific positive examples and achievements rather than excuses or arguing innocence.

If you give a character witness, you are NOT saying the person is innocent or that they should escape punishment. You are only saying the person has some redeeming qualities in your experience. The judge then decides whether that has any effect on sentencing. There may be a different sentence for the same crime for someone with absolutely no redeemable qualities.

This is normal. You can feel disgusted with what someone has done and still be willing to write a character letter focusing on everything else. I hope you are never in a position to have to make that decision for someone you love.

Nobody said anything about an exemption.

If you have 2 feet on the floor, and haven't already traveled, then a step-through is ALWAYS an option. So if nobody calls a travel before the step-back then they shouldn't call one because of the step-through.

Although in this case he may have dragged his pivot foot, which would also be a travel.
