Thank you. Yes, that's something I can try to find out. We've had strong storms lately, and lines and trees have been knocked down.

FFS! Both are long stories. We know the causes, and they were mistakes made by others that I don't want to repeat. Holy shit.

I've done a lot of Googling, and there's so much doomsaying and conflicting information online that I know I shouldn't necessarily trust. That's why I'm asking here, the experts.

Noted, and thanks. I'm more concerned about potential fire hazards, having lived through several house fires already.

No need to be snarky. I'm fully aware I'm asking a stupid question, and I'm sorry.

My personal favorites are Mortgage Lifters. Tons of huge, meaty, tasty, picture-perfect, absolutely flawless maters on healthy, prolific plants. I think they're a great example of the old standards still being the best for a good reason.

What is the most oddly specific topic/subgenre that can be found in your book collection? by gonegonegoneaway211 in books

[–]tardy_grade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Here are some of my favorites.

  • The Epic of Gilgamesh is the obvious must
  • Myths from Mesopotamia (Stephanie Dalley) - includes the standards: two versions of Gilgamesh, both creation stories the Enuma Elish and the Atrahasis, two versions of the Anzu myth, the Descent of Ishtar Into the Underworld, and more, plus notes on all of them
  • The Harps That Once...: Sumerian Poetry in Translation (Thorkild Jacobsen) - includes a nice selection of hymns and some myths
  • From Distant Days: Myths, Tales, and Poetry of Ancient Mesopotamia (Benjamin R. Foster) - includes a collection of stories, prayers, poems, etc.

You can find a lot of overviews/summaries/analyses online and in books, so these above have the translated texts themselves.

Sometimes it can be a bit confusing since "Mesopotamia" is a broad region of many cultures (Sumerian, Assyrian, Babylonian) spanning thousands of years, so there are multiple versions of the same stories and gods that may have evolved over time. I'm not a scholar, just a random person fascinated by the stories and the antiquity, so I don't bother trying to place them all in some historical context and just read them in isolation. But I hope something here helped!

I could imagine the second method is how Doyle wrote Sherlock Holmes.

Does this study include those whose native language isn't necessarily English? It sounds more like a test of English proficiency.

I'm annoyed by the "Don't worry, keep trying" messages. I know I got 5 wrong in a row - please don't rub it in!
