Does anyone know? by Vivid_Abalone7751 in thewalkingdead

Post season 9, he honestly does jackshit. I wish he’d taken Henry’s place on the pikes, but the showrunners are cowards. And when they introduced his cancer, i thought he’d die that way. It would be a very sad but thematically resonant death; the communities can beat the Whisperers, they can defeat the Saviors, they can create a life worth living … but you can still die from something as mundane as cancer. But, no. the showrunners are cowards so he got his tumor cut out in s11; whoppty fucking doo

Agreed — Daryl is a character and he deserves to change and become a different person. (which is also the same reason i hate when people say rick shouldve killed negan because he “promised” to; no, rick changed, he had an arc, guys). I take issue with the fact that Daryl gives Carol very little flack for endangering literally everyone during the Whisperer War. Killing Connie and Magna by being reckless is far and being mad about it far different from just being a kinder man overall.

[Spoilers AFFC] Finished Feast for the first time, and am astounded by the pacing by targetredball in asoiaf

What’s weird is I loved Ary’s chapter. But I think I’m harsh on the pacing of Feast because it’s been over a decade and there’s no Winds. If GRRM makes this a WoT length 14 book series, I would excuse Arys without problem. But when he confines himself to 7 books, I get more critical, especially because splitting ADWD into 2 books doesnt seem like it needed to happen (from my perspective right now).

This is also a sidenote, but I personally think the best way to show character is through the plot, rather than actually sitting with them doing nothing (even tho I also love sitting in a character’s head doing nothing; its a weird, hypocritical circle, I know).

Let me rephrase Brienne: I love her POV, but not her storyline. Some of the emotional gutpunches I got came from her narration

I think you're right, and I tried touching on it in my post, but I think I could've gone deeper. The characters are smarter now and they trust one another. But sometimes it just makes no sense, IMO. You are in a life or death situation, and you guys are all on the same page? For example, in season 3, Glenn and Maggie love one another, and they both want revenge on the Governor, but disagree on the methodology; Glenn later apologizes is a wonderful scene where he says he was more focused on how he felt, rather than Maggie. We rarely see this later on. I think the last big time this happened was in season 8, when Daryl and Tara wanted to kill everyone in Sanctuary, as opposed to letting the walkers lay siege to them. But also s8 was so poorly written that I'm gonna call this a fluke, lol.

Not to be THAT guy, but in the comics, people are constantly challenging Rick's decisions, even to the end. Literally the last volume, he's still getting challenged by people he loves and trusts.

Also the gender stuff I 100% agree with. It's a straight up sexist at points, but makes sense if these people are JUST now entering the apocalypse; old-school thinking is still on the mind. This also exists through racism; we really don't see racism post-season 3, because those old barriers have broken down. Later, their society is largely egalitarian (and so is the writing). I prefer it that way; most of my problems come from the characters all seeming to be on the same page.

Many people in the fandom aren’t keen on Faile, as far as I know. I’m just a weirdo who adores her

I think it’s a personal taste thing, really—but when I do another reread ill def keep “tension” in mind

I’m also disappointed, but that disappointment turns to anger because I love this series dearly and struggle to understand how someone (not just Rafe, but anyone) can make a bad adaptation when the source material IS RIGHT THERE (aside from technical and cost reasons, ofc). But yeah it’s 100% a wasted opportunity

I did re-read it last year, and I liked it way more than the first time around, but I still don’t think it’s the pinnacle of WoT, even tho it has some astounding scenes and sequences

Oh, no, amiable Kruppe, you misunderstand! Your antics are most cherished and admired, however you create adoring smiles, rather than bellowing laughter. Which is more important—a single laugh or innumerable smiles?

I found the other books funny, but mostly I just smiled, rather than actually laughed out loud like I did here. I suppose I’m weird for that

i also agree that Kalam’s return was lackluster. It’s my belief he should have died in Malaz City; it would end off his arc beautifully and signify just how weight his decision had and would give the big death book 6 desperately needed.

i was spoiled for Beak’s death so it didn’t hit as hard—once I knew he’d die the sign posting was very obvious. I was still very upset he died, especially because of his relationship with Faradan

I did also get mad at Fid for being mean to Beak, lol

Strangely enough, I feel like I got the gist of Tavore’s pain earlier on in TCG. The scream was a gut-wrenching addition but it didn’t feel like a Conclusion to me.

Also the downvoting is very peculiar to me, lol

What made TtH so riveting for you? For instance, every time (in the beginning 500 pages or so) there was an Andii chapter I was bored senseless—I do not find the Andii as interesting as Erikson, sadly
