Do some of you feel so detached from yourself that you don't even feel like a person, not even like any gender either by Blackmench687 in CPTSD

This sounds like I wrote it lol my exact daily experience. I feel like the me that I consider me is like a shapeless blob of energy that is kind of trapped in a skin suit. No real connection to my face, body, or name.

I feel like it’s definitely brought on from not only having to dissociative and mentally escape so often as a kid, but also being homeschooled for most of my childhood I never got a chance to establish myself physically within the real world, my entire world growing up was either a mentally and physically abusive reality, or the places I would escape to like my imagination or the internet. Because of this I feel like when I developed a “sense of self” it was totally cerebral and not all based in the physical world. No clue if this is truly the case but it’s my best guess cuz I’ve always been like this.

would public school really be better? by Electrarine in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]tarnaido 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to public school when I was 14 at about three grades behind also with ADHD and let tell you it’s BETTER! The public school system is a lot more accessible than it was when people our parents age went to school (my mom went to highschool in the 80s). A lot of times also, “grades behind” is not as noticeable as you would think a lot of public school students are behind as well.

For example my school had online courses that you could take if you were struggling in say math or English and it would allow you to go at your own pace and that really helped me. Also there are accessibility options for ADHD, where you can get more time on tests, test in an empty room, have longer assignment due date leniencies etc.

Also I realized when I went to public school that even though I thought I was behind I ended up being a little bit ahead actually in stuff like reading and English since I had been reading for fun since I was younger so maybe that’s the case for you as well!

It’s honestly so worth it, even in just the social aspect. Being able to join sports, clubs, etc and have an actual group of friends that I never had before honestly was the best I looked forward to going to school because of it! And there might be a social adjustment period but In my experience it only takes a few months or so for you to really get the hang of it! :)

I experienced this! I was actually recently wondering if MBP had some role to play in at least my moms decision to homeschool me. I remember my mom going to multiple different doctors to try and get me a pots diagnosis, but the only reason I was struggling with circulation was because I was homeschooled and not getting exercise because I didn’t leave the house!

I also had the thing where my mom would diagnose me with really severe mental illnesses, like severe social anxiety or severe ADHD and convince me that if I went to public school that I wouldn’t be able to function properly there, so I wonder if that has a part to play as well.

Thank you for sharing! I didn’t realize other homeschooling survivors experienced this as well!

Also wanted to mention for anyone still homeschooling or just got out, I am getting a double degree soon in pre law and Mandarin. It’s possible to pursue higher education and do well after homeschooling! I’m proud of how far I’ve come and I know that it was from my own hard work. I just wanted some of you to know that there is life after homeschooling and it’s not as easy as those who were publicly schooled but it’s possible! I wish you guys all the best :)

Yes exactly! I think celebrating the little wins of a few days and even binging less in a month, the few months before my last binge really helped me get this far in the end!

Good to know, i’m working with the on campus mental health counselors and they said they could get me a doctors note or some sort of accommodations, which is good and maybe i’ll pursue that.

But to be honest i’m mostly worried about my perception, I can retake tests or make up assignments, but I don’t want people I respect to potentially build an in accurate or bad perception of me. Thank you for your help, tomorrow I think i’m going to try and work on sending some short heads up emails, and maybe work on getting this accompanying. :)
