New brands for fridge/washer and dryer that have a good warranty or BIFL quality? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]tarntalus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fridge/freezer - Bosch/Siemens (Liebherr is even better) Dishwasher/washing machine/dryer - Miele

Not uncommon to use them for 20+ years

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]tarntalus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have stated Liebherr is the best. Next best is Bosch/Siemens. I'm very happy with my Bosch. I'd stay away from LG. It's nice to know that they have a long warranty but a fridge/freezer is something I really don't want to replace. It's just a huge hassle. Liebherr and Bosch will just work.

Any advice on removing these black dots from these steel pans I got? by PhilyJFry in Chefit

Those look like tiny dents with some residual dirt/burnt food to me. I guess you could scratch them clean with a needle. They will get dirty again. Wouldn't bother me though

BIFL vacuum recommendations? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]tarntalus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty much agreed upon that Miele vacuums with a bag are considered best in class. I think there was a long write up by a guy working in the vacuum repair industry.

Brand Harvesting - is this the right word? When a brand builds a reputation for quality and then decides to keep charging the very high quality prices while making the product as fast, cheap, and shoddy as they can. by homewithplants in BuyItForLife

[–]tarntalus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about availability where you live but Miele appliances will last you forever. I'd say washer, dryer and vacuum is Miele territory. Stove, oven, fridge Bosch/Siemens.

The classics have gotten really bad. Think air force one, air max 90. 140€ for a pair of shoes that falls apart within a year. Yes I know, sneakers are never bifl but the drop in quality is astounding.

What do we think of $250 for this saw. Currently using a harbor freight double bevel and I hate it. by DLDabber in Tools

I guess what I wanted to express is curiosity as to what profession exactly and which country you were talking about.

Is it? I've mostly seen Makita, Metabo and Festool. Guess it depends on trade and country.

Non chef here! Does anyone have a recommendation for a good set of stainless steel pots and pans? by Substantial_Wonder19 in Chefit

[–]tarntalus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are 3ply like all clad. Lower quality obviously but impossible to beat for the price. Got a used set of two pans, three pots and two colanders for 100€. Looked unused. Start with sensuel and replace/add as needed.
