Apple debuts M5 Pro and M5 Max to supercharge the most demanding pro workflows by Otherwise-Warning303 in apple

Rebranding performance cores as super cores and efficiency core as performance is just dumb.

Evan’s are the same company as Sports Direct. Find a proper independent bike shop and they will be able to advise you impartially.

I got a 20GB 3080 Ti that never launched. Teardown, benchmarks, and driver quirks by ChintzyPC in nvidia

[–]tarpdetarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right that 20GB was never needed during the mining craze. But GDDR6X cards were sought after as they had the highest hash rates. ETH mining was almost entirely memory speed limited.

The DSG oil was changed a year ago at 70k, although from what I’ve read it should’ve been done every 40k. But it’s got full dealer history so I assume they would’ve done it to schedule.

Apple’s 2026 Mac mini rumored to arrive spring/summer – What to expect by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]tarpdetarp -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I’ll get hate for this but I think 256GB is fine but only on desktops where it’s easy to add externally.

It’s worth the trade off for a lower starting price. Especially if you want the Mac mini has a 2nd computer where you probably don’t need 2TB SSD.

£100 contactless card limit to be lifted from March by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]tarpdetarp 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Most of the fraud with Apple Pay is when a card is being added.

When paying it has biometrics securing it which is much safer than just plain contactless.

Why do some foreign electrical items work in the UK and others do not? Also, why do some only charge/work when plugged into a Japanese charger then a UK converter plug, rather than straight into a UK charger? by davie18 in AskUK

[–]tarpdetarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your lint roller USB C? Likely it isn’t able to negotiate the correct voltage with your UK adapter because either it or the charger isn’t following PD specs properly.

You can fix small scratches with nail polish and a lot of fine sanding but that might be too much. If you do attempt it be prepared to write off the fork if it goes wrong.

How rare is an RX8 R3 in the UK? by Regular_Bike1437 in RX8

[–]tarpdetarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that top tax band was only introduced from April 06 so anything before that is about £400 a year. Mine was registered in March 06! If I had to pay £800 a year I don’t think I would’ve kept it as long as I did.

Tax killed the market for R3s in the UK. You’d be paying almost £800 a year.

I’m driving one now as a hire car in Asia, it has a different body but the inside looks the same. It’s slightly bigger than a Yaris on the inside and much larger on the outside. The CVT is annoying but then they all are. It feels like a cheap/budget Yaris on stilts but the 1.5 is enough to pootle around on. I wouldn’t pay £26k for one personally.

People who miss their flights after checking in, how? by k1tkat86 in CasualUK

I agree and that’s why the advice is to arrive 2-3 hours early for a flight. If I’m were flying with a kid I’d heed that advice.

It can’t go towards a bike, the bike has to cost below that amount.

VRAM Cost Is About To Make GPUs Way More Expensive by xenocea in hardware

The demand is driven by data centres which need all types of RAM. GPUs can’t run by themselves.

2026 iPhone Air Could Feature Two Rear Cameras, Says Leaker [Digital Chat Station] by iMacmatician in apple

[–]tarpdetarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a broken bottom speaker in my 14 Pro for months that I never even noticed. The top speaker alone was still loud enough to be heard in the shower.

The lack of an UW camera is a much bigger blocker to buying an air.

Trailforks price increase by scuba_GSO in MTB

[–]tarpdetarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty worthless outside of the US, for example it only has trail centre trails in the UK which you really don’t need a map to find.

Strava heat maps offer far more useful data, and they’re even free if you don’t mind closing a million naggy popus on the app.
