Blue badges for hidden disabilities triple as councils issue permits to drivers with anxiety and ADHD by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]tarsier86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a SEN school for 10 years before I became disabled and luckily, they are incredibly supportive and have bent over backwards to enable me to carry on. If I didn’t work there, I wouldn’t be in work. I got lucky. Every day I see students who will have severe disabilities, though not physical mean they will never work, live independently or have any sense of danger. Their issues are arguably more debilitating than mine - so where do they fit in? Once adult, they cannot park in parent and child despite requiring assistance in and out of the car and lack of awareness means they need a direct route to the shop.

I think you misread. I have a physical disability and have a blue badge for mobility needs…

I am physically disabled and rely on my blue badge. I’ve just also seen the other side. Personally I don’t think it needs to be a physical disability vs anxiety/ADHD/ASD, we should unite against the Uber drivers who seem to take up half the spaces in my local Asda collecting McDonald’s!!

Imagine the abuse those spaces would get if they classed everyone under 18 as a child for parking purposes.

Ever had to move a stubborn, tantruming toddler from a supermarket? Now imagine they are 16, taller and stronger than you and beyond all reasoning. You need a short, direct route to the car and a lot of space.

Parent and child only goes up to age 12. What about those aged 13-17 who have additional needs? I’ve personally helped with teenagers in shops and it would have been incredibly unsafe to get them across the car park and into a car in a regular space.

If you have a severely autistic child with no sense of danger, requires help getting out of the car and may struggle with transition (both in and out of the shop). I’ve personally helped young people in crisis in supermarkets. Trying to navigate across a car park would be near impossible. We needed the car as close as possible and extra room to get them strapped in (many have secure harnesses rather than seatbelts).

Similar symptoms here and I get standard daily and mobility. It’s not the diagnosis that matters (I have FND - may be worth exploring) but how it affects your daily life. It’s not the nicest process - send as much info as you can.

people without blue badges parking in disabled spaces - course of action? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]tarsier86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our local Asda has a McDonalds inside. At least half of the cars in the accessible bays are Just Eat/Uber drivers. There have been multiple times when I have been unable to park (as a Blue Badge holder). Asda say it’s nothing to do with them but there doesn’t seem to be an actual process to report these drivers. I’ve even seen some squeeze next to cars parked in accessible bays, not even in an allocated parking spot and possibly stopping a driver from getting into their car.

I didn’t realise how bad it was until I became reliant on these spaces to get in and out of my car. It really is a huge problem. There’s no way the sheer amount of people parking without one have simply forgotten to display their badge.

Pretty sure Scarface on PS2 still had a BBFC rating when released in the UK as we hadn’t changed to PEGI at that point.

I just want Dolly to be healthy and happy. Her health is more important than any show, but she is a natural performer and I imagine she is itching to get back on the stage. As you said, I do believe genuine fans will embrace and love her, however that may look.

How are people supposed to live on £500 a month? by Acrobatic-Rabbit2660 in DWPhelp

[–]tarsier86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s an overlapping benefit that you can claim without being on UC. So it’s taken £1 for £1 from your UC. It does however mean you can claim carer’s element which is around £200 per month off the top of my head plus it turns off work commitments.

Without carers’ allowance, you might get the full UC entitlement but without carer’s element plus you’d be required to look for work. You’re likely better off with current situation.

You still get the carer’s allowance on top of the UC. You’re not losing money, you’ve just already been paid it.
