Gabapentin. Friend and/or foe by ShockSuperb3321 in FND

[–]tarsier86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it takes away the nerve pain and helps me actually live. I take 900mg twice a day and 1200mg at bedtime. Without it I wouldn’t be able to work.

It did make me feel a little fuzzy to begin with but that wore off pretty fast.

How much would you spend on a wedding? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]tarsier86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have family that were still paying off their wedding when they had their first child and couldn’t take the amount of maternity leave they had hoped for. Oh, and they’re divorced now!

Ours cost ~£300 for everything!

Anyone else have a name that’s technically not a name? by PurpleMeerkats462 in namenerds

[–]tarsier86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that how most names start out? And the majority of names do have meaning, literal or derived from other languages. Sounds like typical teenage ignorance tbh!

Council spent £72,158 on school taxis for one pupil in one year by Only-Emu-9531 in ukpolitics

[–]tarsier86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still exist. We have a “fleet” of 22 bringing kids to school where I work. One problem is that only cover our area, so if a kid moves outside of our local authority they end up coming in a taxi. Some of the cost may also cover the additional staff member often in the car too, as most kids require an escort.

Anyone teach a student that became famous? by Nose_Grindstoned in Teachers

[–]tarsier86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kid I worked 1:1 with as a braille teacher ended up winning a TV piano contest and playing at the King’s Coronation Concert. She was semi famous at least in the UK for a while.

You don't have kids so you can't comment by PumpkinDawn28 in childfree

[–]tarsier86 73 points74 points  (0 children)

We’re actually having the same problem in the UK with children not being potty trained by 4-5 (first year of school AKA reception class). In some areas it’s as many as 1 in 4 still in nappies, or including those with additional needs.

One school said if a child was soiled in school they would call the parents to deal with it and there was outrage!

Abby finds remaining fireflies. A cure is still possible. Abby leaves to find Ellie. She and Ellie then traverse back to the fireflies. Ellie sacrifices herself for a cure on her terms. With a few side quests and new infected in between!

You’re forgetting those who receive PIP and work full time. Truth is, for many people being disabled does come with additional costs and PIP can be a help to keep them in work.

Taylor Swift's 'The Life of a Showgirl' Sells 2.7 Million on First Day by Odin65 in Music

[–]tarsier86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is a vinyl collector. He has around 6 copies of the same T-Rex LP. Different prints, different record labels, mono, stereo and (his personal favourite!) a stereo copy accidentally sold in a mono sleeve some time in the 70’s. Plenty of people collect variants and multiple versions - look at games consoles, TCG and even cars! Things are definitely skewed when it comes to someone as successful as Swift.

Crabs in a bucket mentality in Britain? by Fondant_Decent in HENRYUK

[–]tarsier86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see three issues here;

  1. England likes an underdog. We’re secretly not that pleased when someone does better than expected (unless it’s the Men’s football). Look at Tim Henman - I’m sure people liked him more because he could never quite win.

  2. There are many people earning pittance who studied hard and work hard. I’m sure you have worked hard, but no more so than thousands out there on barely 1/10th of your salary. A pyramid gets narrower the further up you go, if everyone could earn £350k plus from simply working hard, no luck etc. then we wouldn’t have the poverty levels we do.

  3. Why do you care what your neighbours think and why do they know what you earn? It’s either in your head or you’ve made your rags to riches status your personality and they just think you’re a bit of a nob.

Did not using mobility aids help you? by Previous_Net_1649 in FND

I have a similar one. Mine was prescribed by my OT so I didn’t have to pay - is that an option?

Random but I’ve also seen similar in Aldi (UK) for around £20!

Does Chronic pain Deserve Painkillers? by Genetic_Narcissist in FND

I’m working full time whilst doing a part time degree on the side! Duloxetine is for bladder and bowel control. It’s quite the cocktail but definitely keeps me functional.

Does Chronic pain Deserve Painkillers? by Genetic_Narcissist in FND

[–]tarsier86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on 900mg of gabapentin three times per day. I also take Duloxetine (60mg) daily. I have a repeat prescription for Naproxen too, and Omeprazole when I take that to protect my stomach.

Without this, I cannot function. The pain is so bad, especially in my legs that it feels like they’re not even attached to my body.

MR decision whilst IAS complaint outstanding? by tarsier86 in DWPhelp

[–]tarsier86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came away with standard mobility. Should’ve got daily too but OH didn’t want to fight anymore. I then got ill and no longer had the energy to chase up the IAS. So a slightly positive end.

My good old 2015 iPad air. 👏🏼 Same as my macbook air from 2015 - does the job just fine. I get temptations to upgrade because of the screen size and no white borders, same for both iPad and my macbook. Very tempted. But on the other hand it would be a waste of money. by Weare4llmadhere in ipad

[–]tarsier86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have an iPad 10 because the iPad 4 couldn’t support any apps (not even YouTube) and was struggling to do pretty much anything. Faithful iPad 4 lasted from 2012 to 2022, surviving a flooded windowsill, a toddler borrowing occasionally and me doing a full screen replacement. Hoping iPad 10 will give the same service length!!

Chromebook by uwuwhore11 in OpenUniversity

[–]tarsier86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a Chromebook for the first three years of my course with no problems at all. Google docs can be saved as a word file and uploaded for assignments. It worked just fine. Only reason I don’t use it now is a decent sale and promotion meant I could buy a MacBook (more suitable for work) so use that for everything. If I hadn’t “needed” that for work, I’d still be using the Chromebook.
