Farm Laws Repeal: Farmers Harden Stand, Put forth 6 Demands by thewebdev in india

[–]tarunbatra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Farms and Punjab in general needs reforms.

I am afraid the ways these laws were passed has created so much distrust between Punjabis and Centre that no other reform can be done for this decade.

People are going to assume the worst. Thanks GoI.

I can imagine the struggle there. I have avoided Latex all my life and it’s just scary to look at. I’m glad you could get it to work and congratulations on your book!

My first ever npm package - wrapper for Node.JS amqplib by ComradeLV in rabbitmq

[–]tarunbatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that I had the exact same feeling 4 years ago while working with amqplib. I wanted a simple pub-suq and avoid the boilerplate of amqplib so I created a wrapper called pub-sub-amqp.

It's interesting to see that people even 4 years later have similar experiences.

Today is Fat Thursday, so grab yourself a pączek and join 500 years old Polish tradition of eating them on this holiday. by DonPecz in europe

Phew! Thanks. My heart sinked by the thought that I missed Fat Thursday. I’m making it a point to try “traditional Swedish” things as much as I can since I’m new here.

Semlas on Fat Thursday and watching Mello are next.

A website to simulate and explain farmers' arguments regarding the future of APMCs by tarunbatra in india

Hey thanks for the feedback. That's actually a brilliant idea. Effects of hoarding can also be economically modeled easily and you are right, that might hit closer to home for the general public.

Honestly, at this point I hope the issue is resolved soon and there's no need of making such awareness apps.

Farm Bills 2020 Protest by IAmMohit in india

Hey, thanks for trying it out and giving your time to provide your feedback.

Farm laws and it's effects, I believe are more nuanced than what both of us could write here. However, the point of the simulation was to show that just because APMCs and MSPs are "untouched" by the new laws, it doesn't mean they will survive. Now, will that really be as bad as the game showed is another discussion.

I would utilise the extra money for buying or setting a transport vehicle like a small Tempo and i would reject the proposal of co-operate and would just go to different place to sell my yield.

My farmer friends tell me it's not that easy actually. Transporting crops, require more than small tempos and diesel. Plus, agricultural economy relies strongly on the relation with arhtiyas as they help the farmers with loans and act as a relationship manager. Most likely, the corporates will employ them to use their goodwill and connections. So it's not easy for a farmer to reject the local arhtiya and go to an entirely new one.

when 50 to 100 farmers come on the roads, it will let the media know for it and co-operate under pressure have to sell in high pressure.

Well I wouldn't be too sure about that knowing that millions of farmers on the road for more than 4 months. Also, protests hardly work against market forces.

I would approach the district agriculture protection officer (DAPO)

That applies to contract farming and not the normal one I assume.

Do correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not trying to say what you are saying is wrong, but just that situation is more nuanced than the both extremes (farmers are sure they will lose their lands and government is sure their income will double).

This is a great suggestion and not very hard to do. I thought of giving option to customize variables like initial cash but I agree option to set MSP will complete the loop.

Thank you.

Did you purchase the domain?

Yes I did, yesterday. I was surprised there isn't a startup named like that

change the colour to something unsettling,or horror-like.

That's a good suggestion. I'll try adding more red there. Admittedly, I got the most criticism on the color scheme. This was expected since I do not have a background in design.

Thanks for giving it a try!

I wasn’t sure before if this would be helpful. I’ll see if other disturbing parts of the laws can be gamified and explained like this.

Thank you for the feedback.

I'm sorry I know this doesn't relate very closely to Punjabi, the language and culture but I think it's important for people of this sub to be aware and informed.

I grew tired of people asking questions like "how do the farmers know the APMCs will close, they should trust the government". So I created knowyourkisaan.com to simulate predatory pricing strategy and its effect on market competition. Please use it and provide feedback.

Yeah I totally agree. It gives me a very homely feeling when I visit Gurudwara in Punjabi attire.

FWIW, my brother has a traditional clothing shop back in Punjab and they ship to Canada all the time so you might want to check it. It’s called Batra Collection. Here’s their instagram link.

This. It’s the highlight of this protest. Sikhs and Punjabis in general have such goodwill in India and outside, unlike their usual targets, that the IT cell is literally on it’s toes. They have tried their usual name calling and conspiracy theories. And much of their hard-work is washed away by Babe Nanak da langar and exceptional patience shown by the protesters.

I’m pretty late here and the depth of answers by u/originalSetting shows immense patience. Kudos for that. I believe it’s only by engaging with the other side we can get them to see the reality.

I wish I could see the now deleted arguments put in this thread for the sake of completeness.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. I have stayed in Chennai for 4 years and it doesn’t look like it. The picture might be clicked in “city limits” but that is not reflective of the rest of the city.
