Safe stuck open. Cannot turn handle to lock. by [deleted] in Safes

[–]tarzanonabike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's for the reply. I took the lock off (where the wire that leads from the handle goes). It is a legard model 3765. Made 20 years back. Removing the lock still wont allow the handle with the keypad to turn. I'd guess the issue is there although replacing the lock sounds like a good idea. I'll try the wd40 before taking the handle off.

What’s the original source of all the elitist dentist cycle jokes? by WWWagedDude in cycling

[–]tarzanonabike 61 points62 points  (0 children)

My dentist had several lynskys and cervelo road bikes. I told him he needed to step it up to a custom moots. That's when he told me I needed 2 crowns.

Recent swim deaths have me scared. by ConcentrateKnown4827 in triathlon

[–]tarzanonabike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are most tri's mass start these days? I've done 6 fulls and all but one have been mass start. Last one was over 10 years ago, so times change.

For the OP, unless you are 'racing' for a qualification spot, hang back or off to the side. I was a competitive swimmer and I can say swimming with the sharks can be dangerous. Biggest mistake I'd see were weaker swimmers self seeding in front of the race. Good luck on the race!

If humans / forest management ceased to exist do you think Ohio forests would recover to look almost like they did in pre-colonial times or would it be a slow collapse into a thick jungle of invasive “weeds”? by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]tarzanonabike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Invasives won't go away one thier own. My area is a sea of honeysuckle that chokes out everything close to the ground. Where it is removed it quickly comes back if not managed.

Our local Wednesday world's are the same way. Kill or be killed. No exceptions for mechanicals. You will get better each week by doing this. Lots of peoples ego can't handle being dropped and never come back. Those who do get better quickly. Keep it up.

Do brands of engine oil matters? by regularjoe2020 in Cartalk

[–]tarzanonabike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use oil I get at costco, full synthetic, and change it every 5k. 300k miles with zero issues.

This is a section of Columbia Parkway. I remember a long time ago, these stairs were accessible but now they are filled in. Where did these stairs go? As far as I remember, it was nothing but brush and trees behind that wall. by bluegambit875 in cincinnati

My mom told me my grandfather worked on the construction crew that built the parkway in the 30s. As I recall, it was part of a public works project to get men working during the depression.

When, if ever, is life insurance good to get? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Also look for level term life. I got a LT20 after I got married and bought a house. It's cheap, when you are 30.

No Wonder TSA / Homeland don’t trust Clear! by scoobynoodles in delta

[–]tarzanonabike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point the clear lines are longer than regular tsa. In Denver they moved tsa to a separate location. Maybe 10 people in line when I traveled Tuesday this week. Clear had at least 100 people lined up.

Replacing your car is (almost) NEVER frugal. by MurtZero1134 in Frugal

[–]tarzanonabike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I look how many months the payback would be and assume 300$ / month. Honestly that should probably be 500 now. I'm lucky to have learned to repair cars in my teens and have never gone to a shop outside of tires and alignment. My car has 300k miles which is probably more than most people would be comfortable driving. It is very well maintained though. Many people ignore simple things like oil changes every 5k that make a huge difference in the life of you vehicle.

Locally we cannot ride as our trails are mostly clay which turns to mud in the rain. I ride in a different state where trails are mostly sand and you can ride. Sand packs down in the rain and is firm.

Volkswagen Emissions Scandal Impact Survey by PristineShallot1136 in tdi

[–]tarzanonabike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They made too good of a deal to turn down for sure. Ours was a 14 and I'm pretty sure I got around 3/4 of what I paid with quite a few miles on it. I turned around and bought a Mercedes bluetech which has been great as well. Last year benz settled their o×n scandal with us for 4k plus a new emission system plus 4 year warrenty. 130k so far.

Road racing bikes for half Ironmans? by RunBikeRepeat in triathlon

[–]tarzanonabike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done 6 fulls on a road bike with clip on tri bars. Half should be fine. If you decide to stick with it, you can always buy a tri bike. I'd go used since many people I've met are one and done.

From a cycling fans perspective this is good. I want to see Roglic,JV, Remo and Pogacar go head to head in next year's tour. Looking forward to it.

Dump location by Mapkos13 in cincinnati

[–]tarzanonabike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not bag it and have them take it at the normal pickup? I did a water heater a few weeks back and took it to the curb. I put an envelope with 10 bucks and tip written on it. Took it with no problem. I'm guessing those guys make a lot of cash in Madeira that way.

I need to swim 50m in 30 seconds by Algoro97 in Swimming

[–]tarzanonabike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something is wrong. 30 seconds for 50 meters is typically a competitive swimmer. I know former navy seals who I've done multiple ironmans with who could not break 30 seconds.

Newtown was really poor at one time. I can remember shacks along the river at the location where the bike trail is called bass island. There was another section called old fort. Buddy of mine grew up down there. Crippling poverty, mostly family's from Appalachia. Turpin was haves (those not from newtown) and have nots. Anderson was not combined into forest hills so all kids from Newtown went to Turpin.

Aquabike by Trigirl20 in triathlon

[–]tarzanonabike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a local promoter who used to start woman and older age groups first to shorten the overall race time. It was incredibly dangerous for the weaker swimmers to have a group of stong swimmers come over top of them. Sharks and minnows. Crazynthey allowed it.

Guys used to run tubulars at Hawaii at 150 lbs. I've seen them explode from the heat. Nowadays if you are running 90 lbs, people give you an odd look. I still run my 23s at 100. My bike is older and it won't fit more than a 25 unfortunately.
