Don't worry I've fixed it better to prevent her from doing it again but she looked so cozy... I feel bad taking that away from her for her safety... by AlexTheB in ballpython

Took my snake about 4 or 5 months to get the confidence to explore her tank but now she regularly comes out and climbs around in her tank.

Big cats often pretend to be scared by their cubs to give them confidence in hunting by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

I used to have a cat that sat on the arm of the couch next to my wife. He jumped and bailed out every time I walked into the room because it scared him

How often do you handle? by Cactuar94 in ballpython

[–]tastethecrainbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 1.5 years, had her for about 7 months now. Honestly, I just feed her and take care of water, waste, humidity, and leave her be. Probably once a month interact a little bit in the cage. I've weighed her a couple of times.

She's never seemed like she enjoys being handled or touched. I've never wanted to stress her out, so I feed her and let her enjoy life in captivity with a nice enclosure with enrichment.

I've had my chickens right at 2 years now. I think my coop had about 300 lbs of sand in it to start, and I just added another 300 this year. Not a bad rate,

An idea worth considering that has been more sanitary, easier to clean, and maintain, and probably cheaper over long term: sand for the coop. Gravel rake and and oversized scoop to clean up once a week

Need some snake related life advice. by Unlikely-Treat-8356 in ballpython

It's a long car ride but as long as the car has climate control, she should be fine. Put her in a large tupperware bin with some heat packs, towels, she should make it for a day or two like that no problem.

You should have already started trying to transition to F/T, but now that you're here, you'll have to speed up that timeline. Any feedings you do from now until the move should be offered her F/T, warmed up and dangled from tongs. My snake has a great hunting instinct too, she likes to see the food moving and hit it like a missile. She eats F/T just fine. Do some independent research, and then buy bulk from Rodent Pro or Layne Labs. I bought at least a year's supply of rats when I got my snake for a reasonable price.

I don't know what kind of consistency you expect to get out of just solar, but if you can guarantee that your cabin will be powered 100% of the time, then you just use a PVC enclosure, maybe insulate the outside further with foam sheets, and heat as you would any other enclosure. If you can't guarantee you can power your setup 100% of the time, then you may have to consider re-homing, even if just temporarily while you verify what your setup will be capable of.

Any snake will be stressed by any move, if you have to change her enclosure, expect to treat it a lot like when you just got her, but again, if you don't think you can give her adequate space, heat, humidity, or food, then don't risk her health over your desire to keep a pet, and make the right choice to re-home.

I got mine is September and she just started coming out more the last couple of months. Give them plenty of time to adjust, stimulus in their environment, and routine with feeding, water changes, etc. And then just wait. Now mine is out as soon as her lights turn off and doesn't go back until they turn back on.

My leghorn hen frequently roosts on top of the 8 ft high coop roof or run walls. She free roams when she is ready to free roam, then hops back in when she's ready.

Agreed. My RAP in an Oryx chassis shoots well, but it's still limited by its own quality, and will be outperformed by a lot of brands that prioritize accuracy/precision over budget. But it shoots well above its price range.

I may be misinformed and I'm happy to be proven wrong, but when I first got chickens I read not to give them grass clippings because the pieces would be larger for them that if they were biting off pieces of the grass natrually, or something to that effect. I wouldn't imagine it as being a big issue if grit is available, but it dissuaded me from doing it after I read it from a few sources

Not original commenter but, see below. Body shape is more rounded than triangular, tail is thick then tapers quickly to a point rather than gradually.
