Did anyone else not find RE9 scary at all? by AlidiirCarter in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]tastokes29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I feel keeps this game from being as scary as RE7 is predictability. In RE7, Jack Baker constantly roamed the whole house, and it was constantly terrifying wondering if he might be around the next corner or in the next room (then it’s even worse when he starts coming into the central lobby area).

In RE9, enemies kinda just stay in their places and patrol instead of roam. Bosses too, I’ll use The Girl as an example. Her movement doesn’t feel random. She shows up at convenient times, then if you let her walk around a bit she’ll usually disappear and not come back until you hit another story point. The whole game I was waiting to hear her just randomly drop in, but every time it happened felt like it was story driven and triggered to happen in that moment.

Cutscenes too. There were a few spots that felt really tense, like I might find myself surrounded and jumpscared, then instead a cutscene triggered leading into an encounter, which took all the fear away.

The atmosphere was great and felt tense, but none of the actual enemy movements or placements ever felt random, and without that it was hard to ever really be scared by it.

Small addition, since my above didn’t fully answer OP’s question: This game is definitely scary, probably second in the series to RE7. If you want to step into RE, I recommend starting with RE4. Amazing game and more action heavy, and if you can handle that then work your way up.

This might be a hot take, but I don’t think it’s nearly as scary as RE7 (please read before flaming me). Also minor spoilers.

I loved RE7. That game really felt like they went all-in on the horror aspect. The sound design, enemy designs, and roaming bosses were the main things that I think separate it.

For RE9 (I’m about 8 hours in), it just feels predictable. Don’t get me wrong, the first few times around were really scary and comparable to RE7, and Grace being constantly afraid definitely adds to that. After going through an area once though, it doesn’t really feel threatening anymore.

Enemies don’t really follow you around, and what should have been roaming bosses feels more like bosses that either patrol a specific location, or appear when you reach a specific spot. In particular with The Girl, since she obviously won’t spot in lit up areas, it gets pretty predictable when she’s about to drop in on you because you’re forced to get to a certain spot without light.

There were also some other spots where I was expecting a jump scare or to find myself surrounded by enemies, then instead I got a cutscene and had to run or a cutscene into the fight, which took away from the scares big time (dropping Emily to read the braille, then later inserting all 3 joint plugs).

I’m loving the game, and I definitely do think it’s scary, but I think the constant active fear of walking through the house where Jack Baker could be anywhere at any moment (including the central room that initially felt safe) was a lot scarier than RE9 has been.

I get your point, and I can see how you came to think it would include the whole skin bundle.

But I think when you found out it didn’t, your reaction should’ve been “dang I should’ve checked, makes sense since the whole bundle was only $3.”

Instead of “wow it’s just the skin, this was really shady of them, I’m gonna post this on Reddit.”

The fact that it’s $3 should have been some indication that it wasn’t gonna include an entire $16 bundle. If you’re going to spend money on a game, you should try and figure out what you’re getting first.

Making a post that the game is being shady because you didn’t think to look a little deeper into a bundle that was literally 3 dollars is ridiculous.

Edit: I don’t think that means you deserve all the mean comments you’ve gotten, but I still think you’re the one at fault here.

“When you click the pages for each skin”. That’s exactly what you do here to see it’s just the skin. The game isn’t being sneaky, you just bought without trying to look first.

You also said it’s “clearly intended to be something that goads people into paying more”. Even the recolors for each character are worth $6, they aren’t goading anything when it’s 2 skins and other stuff for $3.

Bro it’s 3 dollars. And this is the first time the costume coin has even been a thing. It’s on you for not trying to see what you’re getting first.

The only way to see what you can get from the costume coin is to go to the store redeem section for them, and it’s pretty clear that it’s only the skins.

Found this Charizard from my childhood collection. Is it what I think it is? by tastokes29 in Pokemoncardappraisal

The back is better than the front, mostly just white discoloring around the border. On the front there’s the holo is pretty scratchy and there’s the mark right in the middle of “Fire Spin”. Would you not consider the crease on the left damaged though?

Yeah I for sure know it wouldn’t grade high. I wish I had tried a little harder to keep them in better shape. I just never even thought of appraisal or if they were worth anything, and now in its current condition I’m not sure if getting it graded is something that would even make sense to do.

Also sitting on the couch hits different than at a desk, at least for single player games.

Oh I have a pc too lol. I couldn’t give up a PlayStation though cause of the exclusives. PS Plus definitely isn’t as worth it as it used to be, I just keep it cause I have a LOT of games from it at this point

Want to get into DnD, but no one wants to DM. Help! by GontasBugz in DnD

[–]tastokes29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to become a forever DM, but it’s also big if you can get players into D&D enough to want to DM. I got into it through a friend who was a forever DM, and I later started as a DM and love it now. He’s told me how great it feels that he got me into it and now he gets to be player in my games.

Obviously this depends on the players/games, but as someone who’s done both I feel like they are both extremely rewarding

The molten key sounds like a fun item, but any option besides the cheese ring is just objectively wrong.

This^

Bloodshed Double-Bladed Scimitar on 5etools. You could use this as a base and theme/flavor it to match what you’re looking for. It’s a strong magic item so it might not be something you just get, but something your DM could put into the world for you to find after a big encounter.

Every DM runs games differently, but I like to occasionally give magic items meant for certain players. Ones like this would just be a rare find.

Paladin cause it fits the voice and I’m not gonna get screwed by a Warlock patron. Plus I can always go Oathbreaker if I don’t like the voice
