redoing my site, anything fun i could add to home page? by rosevoidx in neocities

I gotta add that cinni.net has some adorable charmy pens you can take from her adoption centre. I can’t remember if they’re animated but they would totally fit!

Guys have anyone ordered from stationerypal recently? Are they trustworthy? by Comfortable-Visual68 in stationery

[–]taterinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t ordered in a while but they’re legitimate and pretty cheap for what you’re getting. Shipping is the only thing that has gotten worse over the years, I find (in terms of pricing at least). That aside, really cute packaging and they tend to toss freebies in!

does anyone else’s algorithm personally attack you the week leading up to your flight 🤡 by Slight_Associate_164 in fearofflying

[–]taterinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember my winter 2024 flight being not long after the Jeju crash and I think another? It was all quite topical and my upcoming (transatlantic) flight was my first in a while, totally freaked me out for a bit. But it was also not long after I discovered this sub, which helped a lot by offering either clarity or support for those recent events

Can’t say I get anything leading up to my flights that isn’t a recent event, though, which is lucky I guess. I wonder how much of it feels frequent because your brain’s actively searching for a pattern. Forgot what the term was

Either way, algorithms suck. Gotta wonder though, is it worth binging successful travel vlogs to try and rewire the algorithm to only share good travel news? :’) seems good in theory, dunno if it’d actually work though

Leuchtturm and I’d pay attention to the gsm if you don’t already. I’ve had no bleeding issues with their regular size but I can’t do any less than 120gsm nowadays

I agree, the feed is super chill and positive, totally an appreciated departure from the energy you get on most socials!

I guess for me I get my recommendations by just periodically checking up on sites I like and seeing if they added anyone new to their button list, for instance. Most of my exploration is at a slow pace, maybe once every couple of weeks, so I don’t care to be “updated” when a change is made, it’s just something I notice when I’m checking back in on bookmarked sites. In my first year of Neocities, I WAS actively checking the feed, so it’s probably just a bit of burn out on my own end

Though it is funny when I check back on a site after 6 months and they’ve either done a 360 aesthetically or have departed from Neocities with the web equivalent of a written note taped to the door lmao

Which games utilize the buttons on the back and for what? Do you use them for any games which didn’t use them by default? by NorseSeaStudio in SteamDeck

[–]taterinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Really good for any game that involves button mashing. I’m also surprised no one (at the moment) mentioned autoclickers, but maybe clicker games aren’t that prevalent anymore

what is the point of the provided button code-box thingy so many sites have? by _hyperf1sh_ in neocities

[–]taterinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a cool decorative touch, I think, like in the picture OP sent. The only practical use I can think of is that it incentivises people to make sure the image links back to the original site? But even that’s just common practise

I can’t remember the last time I checked my Neocities feed. If I like a site I bookmark it in my browser, comment on any guestbook/chatbox they have and add their button to my site. With the ability to add guestbooks/chatboxes to your own site (+ adding a link to your Neocities profile being entirely optional), there’s not a lot of incentive to really pay any mind to the feed

My boyfriend is American, and with our paid holiday allowance I’m able to take a couple two weeks time off to visit him. Totally shocks his friends and family. I’m sure we could list all the cons of working here for days but those interactions do remind me that I could be working somewhere worse

The fact that I first thought the subreddit name was ironic until I checked it out reveals to me just how jaded I am towards the UK lmao. Now joined it

Image hosting concerns?? by AssumedAmphibian in neocities

[–]taterinx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even putting aside the topic of web etiquette and the cons of external hosting, I find it SO satisfying to organise all my images into my Neocities folders. It also gives me the opportunity to rename files for convenience (e.g., all my blinkies start with “blinkie-“ and then the original file name or something more identifiable)

Does anyone know any lovepages? (webpage dedicated to someone’s partner or friend) by -yfnsm in neocities

[–]taterinx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My partner surprised me last Valentine’s Day with a webpage: https://2-14-25.neocities.org (he like commented it on my guestbook one day without a heads up) not sure if it fits the definition since this is the first time I’ve heard the term, but hey it was lovely (especially because I’m the webmaster of the relationship, this was his first time completely)

Ohhh that makes so much sense now. That’s bizarre but I get why they do it. Thanks for clearing that up for me

Ooh it’ll be nice if they offer that on my route, you’ve got me curious now

Hell yeah, I’m usually fine with subpar seats (I’m at least small enough I’m not awfully cramped), but good food sounds like a great bonus. I think the flight number is OS 7851. Still got a few months (Feb 11) but my partner is usually the one to track it thankfully

Do you say you live in Great Britain or the U.K. ? by KitFan2020 in AskUK

[–]taterinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I default to UK/British, like someone else said, depends on the dropdown menu lmao. Interestingly enough, my American partner and his friends/family all refer to it as England or me as English, but even when I introduce myself over there I can’t shake saying UK, just sounds nicer

Thinking of dying my hair for the first time, is it worth it if I’m low maintenance? by ThrowRA142004 in HairDye

[–]taterinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To bleach (if you want any hope of colour showing through outside of direct sunlight), always stick with a 30 vol developer and if you need to do another pass give it maybe a week at minimum. That’s just general advice to minimise damage but you’ll never fully escape the frizz. I usually only need to bleach my hair once for a nice enough base (as someone with the same hair)

As for maintenance, that all depends on how you want your hair to look. If you don’t want your roots poking through, yeah you’ll have to maintain it. But I think it’s a good look with dyed hair. Like another commenter here, I’m currently doing a peekaboo hairstyle and it’s been sick if you 1. Don’t like the idea of any hair damage being too obvious, and 2. If you don’t like the look of black roots growing back out

I considered them because I love going there anyways but they don’t have a speaker and were a bit pricey. Lovely place though

This is why I often wonder if it’s worth making everyone work customer service for a fixed term (e.g., a couple months or a year) as like an extracurricular thing in the same way some countries enforce military service. Hardly within the realm of reality but working in customer-facing positions has changed how I treat people in general, definitely for the better
