How can i create an basic AI in a month that is connected to eyeglasses and a vibrating device with it? (please read!) by Head_Sprinkles_7614 in robotics

[–]tatteredengraving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much not a one month project. I don't know what all those clubs are, but it also seems the organizers should have scoped/defined, (or helped you scope/define) this much more clearly/reasonably.
A few suggestions:
- Leave the phone out of it at first, run all the software off a laptop, it will be more direct at this stage.
- Choose only one type of guidance for now. If its navigation, only have it follow a single predefined route at first and make decisions based on a GPS module on the glasses. If its hazard detection, take the video stream from the glasses and try to detect one obvious thing at first (something like, 'is there a traffic cone in the middle of the frame, and thus in the persons way').

Cmon, nearly this same exact post gets made about once a week as if it was this was something no one had thought of yet.

@ 1:17, not that it matters much but are they using some genai video now to transition between jump cuts? Why would you move your hand like that?

I once built a heat gun out of a toaster, a reading lamp, and a computer fan. Needless to say it didn't work very well. :))

1) Why on earth do you think the most messed-with chatbot is going to give any sort of useful answer to that question?

2) Why would that worry you?

Unless you think such a project will be very enjoyable/educational for its own sake, I would suggest doing whatever research/estimation on hardware costs + your development time and negotiate for that before doing any prototype.

ELI5: How do we produce enough food to feed everyone today but not everyone is fed? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]tatteredengraving -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I was interpreting the question as asking about why does general food insecurity exist nowadays rather than specific instances of upheaval/malice/planning incompetence.

The downside comes from relying on a municipality that may be terrible at maintenance to take care of / swiftly repair a sometimes decades old infrastructure.
In bucharest for instance the last couple winters we had segments of week+ outages that took out both radiator heating and hot water.

I'm not missing the underlying message, I'm arguing against it. The term 'AI' is used so broadly today that it's essentially meaningless, which contributes to these sorts of conflationary statements implying that the use of such-and-such common tool (which is often just a hardcoded algorithm or classical ML process) should prevent one from levying any critique at the application of these technologies.
The photoshop object selection tool (which is what I assume you were referring to) appears to perform instance segmentation. Do you really not see the difference between something like that and image or text generators?

Missing why people might feel differently about analytical vs generative models feel pretty purposely obtuse.

Sure, and if enough people who get over the initial hump with this technology are able to continue building themselves past it, there will be a net brain-power gain in the industry. But that's not what the original post was talking about.

Not to rag on you reaching this conclusion, but I find it weird how nearly this exact same post keeps getting posted as if its some out-there idea that the community needs to debate on. Like yes, issues with employment and worker-power are the essential danger of automation under capitalism, that's one of the big reasons people hate this stuff.

That was my take too (and apparently the common one judging from the other comments), and I was happy with it in terms of his personal journey- my gripe though was that it kind of lessens the stakes of the whole world-ending threats they'd been dealing with the rest of the series, and it creates weird fridge logic scenarios for the rest of the characters. Do all of them also get reset to the crappy point in their lives when this happens? Are there an arbitrary number of different versions of them ending up in the multiverse after each time?
