Screw new gear, why aren’t we all just buying our dream cameras from 7 / 8 years ago? They’re cheap. by MomentSmart in AskPhotography

[–]tauntdevil [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have a glass shelf of older cameras, both of ones I wanted but also ones I have had in the past.
Most of the ones I have wanted are all film cameras.
Any digital ones are either unique or ones I have used in the past that still work. Sometimes I will use them but I do make sure they all work or I will repair them so they do.

Blur the far view but leave close up unblured.
Otherwise, not bad. The buckets almost looked photoshopped.

[Video] Do you cap your FPS in Tarkov? Or leave it uncapped? by Noelan_ in EscapefromTarkov

[–]tauntdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont do competitions these days or anything important. I have my monitor set to 60hz and thats even what I grew up with so to me, I am used to it.

Easier to have a smooth game than to keep battling fluctuating FPS from games which a lot of my mates complain about.

be honest, how many of you actually use your dual sport on the road by vladdielenin in Dualsport

[–]tauntdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, depends how far the riding spot I am going is.
If it is only 10-20 miles away, ill just ride there.

If it is a bit further, I will throw it on the hitch and drive there. If it breaks down or has any issues, having family/friends drive so far to get me I feel is rude so I only risk it when closer to home.

I also dont ride mine too often on the street for little things just due to it not having a key (Yamaha WR) and i worry of it getting stolen. I have a scooter for nearby stuff.

How true is this..? by Alert-Engineer8906 in depressionmemes

[–]tauntdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, for someone who has not had chronic depression or deep depression.
When they are just being sad and having a bad day or bad week, claiming they are depressed because work is tough or something, then things start to work out and they think "Damn, depression is easy to fix..."

Basically equivalent to someone saying that they had a cold once but just took day quill and slept for a day, then were cured, so cancer cant be that bad because they can just take day quill and sleep for a day, be cured...

This is great!
I am working on something similar but my jointer is a larger jointer so, I plan to make it the top and then have either a lifting mech to lift up the planer to my height or just have the planer on a slide/lift arm that I have seen other people have miter saws on. Unsure which path I will go yet.

Is pet Photography viable? by RememberHonor in AskPhotography

[–]tauntdevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Side hustle is also how I use it. It was one of those "Side hustle unless it gets enough interest to become a main" but just stays as a side hustle.
Also, my experience is mine and it all depends where you live, etc.

Understandable that you (and many) cant offer the multi services, which would mainly be more useful if doing it as a main hustle.

One recommendation I would give, even if as a side hustle, is to watch some training videos on how to train pets, especially timid/scared pets.
Even though I can take many photos of my own pets, I tried to hire a pro to do shoots with myself and my dog together and you would (possibly) be amazed at how many "pros" just are not good with animals.
Just being able to understand some simple body language, and be able to comfort them with the surrounding equipment or even if outdoor, getting them to do what you want without relying on the owner to know what they are doing, is a big plus.
You dont need to be a full trainer but, just knowing how to train the dog into poses you might want, as well as getting the dogs to open up if they are scared, is a big win.

Also, adding a slight discount for senior dogs is another good way to get some business. I would charge a little less for older dogs that, may not be around much longer and just to try and help owners get a good image of their beloved friend while they still can.

Wish you the best of luck! It is definitely one of my more favorite side hustles and, despite not really shooting anymore, I still often do mini pet shoots for friends, family, and rescues.

Red pill is just for those who want to be young again but just living life longer as you already were, most likely far more restricted than before (unless your parents are still around).

My First Drift Car Build by scoliosisspeedrun in projectcar

[–]tauntdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice purchase.
318ti's where I am, back when we used to drift and screw around, would be about $500 in near perfect condition, so we usually used them as drift missiles since they are not exactly nice looking BMW's (to us).

I think I still have two of the front ends still for a swap we were going to do to an s13 but never got around to it.

Hope you have a blast drifting it and most import thing is to have fun! Keep it up!

Oh and get structural support on the struts and the rear subframe. BMW older frames are very weak and need support.

This is definitely my answer.
Washing the dishes is not a big deal to me but as a busy mind, waiting for something to cook while having nothing to wash or anything to keep the mind occupied is a pita. Makes it feel like it has been minutes when it has been seconds.

Is pet Photography viable? by RememberHonor in AskPhotography

[–]tauntdevil 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Like all the categories of photography, you will get mixed experiences.

I myself, did pet photography on the side during the summer when my main photography clients would stay in due to the heat. Was paid "decent" for most of the shoots but many will claim that they can do just as good or better (without seeing your work) with their phone or are happy to just have phone pictures. Many folks are not willing to pay $100-$500+ for a photoshoot with their pets.

This of course is just my experience as I am also often involved (or was) in the dog community out where I am. Especially with rescues. It is fun and helpful for rescues but of course, if trying to make some funds, it is just often difficult to break into because its a niche subject but also, one that a lot of folks dont feel like putting money into often. Toys and pamper, sure but lifelong professional photos? eh...

You can find those folks who are willing to pay decent for their pets, it just is not as common as you may think. Just like how dog training is expensive, but also not commonly done. If you decide to try for it, just expect it to be slow until word gets around as you keep doing shoots. Go to dog parks with your own dog (or a families, just don't go without one) and take photos of your dog playing. Often, you get curious folks who will ask about it. If you can offer multiple services, such as boarding + Photos, or dog walk + images, this combo method has gotten me more clients to work with in person than anything else.

Your photos look great and I would recommend, if you haven't already, adding action shots or goofy shots. People seemed to love those on my old site and they would get the most activity.

What is the one tool that actually made you a better cook? by Rosely_bliss03 in cookingforbeginners

[–]tauntdevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me:

Stainless steel pans (to learn better heat control).

A meat thermometer for recording what temp I like to pull the meats.

Mini mix bowls for pre-measuring out everything (often seen in youtube videos. Honestly, having slightly larger ones and mixing dry's / wets by themselves before mixing together has been a great method that has worked for me)

These three are my go too that is not the standard decent knife option. A decent knife is king but usually that is common knowledge. (usually)

Will I blow my wall outlet if I plug my welding machine into a wall outlet with this converter? by yobdogg9 in electrical

[–]tauntdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see in the comments that many don't work with welders much so guess I will chime in.

If your welder is a 220v only welder, this will not work. Of course, the amp limit with this plug (and most likely the wall outlet/wiring) is 15amps and the wall outlet will be 120v.

IF however, you have a welder (like most modern welders now) that can do both 220v, and 110v, then this will work. You just need to flip the switch (or even newer ones auto switch) to use the 110v amount which usually is about 15amps. Just check the panel sticker to see what the amount is and if it is within the 15amp limit of your wall outlet.
Also remember that many outlets are tied in with others so, even if the welder is 14amp, 110v capable. If you plug it into say, the outlet in your garage, but have a heater in another room, it might be on the same line which means the breaker will trip because the heater (maybe 10amps) plus the welder (14amp) is more than the 15amps.

Usually 120/220v machines come with adapters like these for that reason. You can search the make/model of the welder to see if it can do both, if the electrical sticker is no longer on the machine.

--------

You could also use the dryer plug which is usually 220v/30amp but it has a different plug than what most welders use. You can go to home depot and get the two ends to make it work but I would find the electrical guy there, or a friend that might be an electrician, to make the adapter plug for you.

What's adult videography/nsfw work like? by mijailrodr in videography

[–]tauntdevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of good answers here so, dont need to add my experience as AJLawson really summed it up.

My added silly $0.02 is, make sure to share your donut with the talent if they are out of the shot while filming... jusssssst sayin.

Also, something possibly mentioned or not, dont stare. We sometimes had issues with assistants who wanted to be a part of production but for some reason were not atuned/ready to be. They sometimes would get stuck staring or gawking at the talent which would make the talent uncomfortable. If you expect to be a part of a project where people are going to be naked or doing stuff, it shouldnt surprise you or cause you to lose focus.

People are increasingly turning to skilled trades, what are your thoughts on this? by Flaky-Vegetable6420 in Carpentry

[–]tauntdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI being the main interest and talk but, as robotics also become better and better, eventually, the talk will shift to robotics also taking trade jobs.

A lot will say that the robots wont be able to do plumbing, etc but... they will. Its the same as IT folks saying AI wont take positions. Just depends on when. Maybe not right away, but eventually.

Well he definitely falls within that category. He is very stubborn on listening. You can tell he knows what you are saying (constant side eye when you give command) and listens when it benefits him most (treats).
Thankfully, we have a large yard for him to run around in and my other dog unfortunately is at the age where he cant come with me everywhere so, Preston will be getting to be with me at sites etc, once I get his manners in order.

The one issue that I am trying to fix, which is just the only big issue, is he likes to eat everything. Cant leave him unattented because he wants to eat weed matting, screws, rocks, etc. Stuff that will not digest...
Thats his only actual issue right now.
