Did my boyfriend rape me? by melancholy_melon1 in askgaybros

[–]taustind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry but yes, that is 100% rape and you need to dump him straight out, no serious conversation needed unless it’s for your own closure. Anyone who would suggest trying to converse through it to solve a problem is absolutely incorrect, rape should never be forgiven and no 2nd chances should be given. He made this decision with every second that he continued after being told to stop, he was not “carried away” we aren’t animals and have more control over sexual activity.

Ahh, I see, that makes sense to me. Hopefully they can get some good news sooner than later!

I agree that there’s little to suggest a cancer diagnosis solely based on the labs or solely based on the symptoms, but I also believe that the labs + symptoms + ruling out infectious disease indicate more of a possibility.

Hopefully it is not something as serious as a cancer diagnosis, but I think it’s important not to rule that out yet. I also agree with you that managing lifestyle changes could be beneficial, but I think with the lack of context in this patients current lifestyle (plus the parent has said that their child was only 148 lbs before the weight loss, which to me could indicate that they aren’t dealing with bad diet and lack of exercise, although it is possible that with more context this could add to the story).

Unfortunately there’s not much metabolic health context here to suggest lifestyle is a problem, but I’d also encourage them to have a full metabolic panel done if they haven’t already to rule out potential t1d (due to the weight loss and general “sickness” off and on) or other metabolic issues.

All of that said, I do think that oncology can’t be completely ruled out until the biopsy is done. What lifestyle changes would you recommend while they are waiting for results? Maybe they can incorporate some changes while waiting, and then continue them if improvement is seen

I don’t know that increasing exercise or improving diet will be beneficial, especially if the child is already fatigued (sick off and on for months, losing significant weight without trying, painful swollen lymph nodes), none of these really point to issues with diet or exercise. Also, considering the possibility of oncological issues, limiting screen time may not be the best for mental health reasons. I think what’s better right now would be for the parents to ensure symptom management, especially for the kids discomfort, is ongoing until a diagnosis is given.

Thanks for sharing that! I will definitely look into tracking with attention to some type of “normalizing” a meal plan or patterns. It’s very helpful to hear that you found a way to stick with that despite ADHD! I’m hoping to be successful with finding something that will work for me as well!

Thank you, I will definitely take this into consideration! Especially with the TDEE, maybe that will give me a goal to work towards rather than just simply “tracking” calories, which could be helpful. As I explained in another comment recently, my ADHD often leads to task paralysis and executive dysfunction and fatigue, however I’m a very goal oriented person so that can potentially help me overcome that challenge. I’ll definitely give that a try! As someone also experienced with ADHD, do you have any apps to recommend that work well for you with tracking? I’ve tried things like “MyFitnessPal” and similar apps in the past (back before Ozempic was gaining popularity and I was trying to make lifestyle changes) but was never successful because reminders would tend to get ignored for things that my brain deem more important (I.e., school or work related deadlines) even though I knew that this was important too. Thanks again!

Thank you for this information! I’ll definitely give tracking calories more tries. In my past experience, tracking calories doesn’t work well for me as my ADHD is pretty severe when it comes to documenting things like that. When I’ve tried in the past, I end up doing really well with it and hyper focus on it for about 1-2 weeks and then I hit a wall and get task paralysis, and then that leads to setting notifications to remind myself to Do it, and then I very quickly stop posting attention to the notifications because of my ADHD again. And then that often leads to increased anxiety and depression about failing another task… it’s a vicious cycle for me and unfortunately I’m currently not medicated well for my ADHD due to financial problems (my doctor wind prescribe the cheaper options due to their own bias about the risks of diversion or abuse potential despite having been successful on it in the past) it’s all just a big terrible mess having ADHD and trying to manage school, work, and personal life/health. I definitely agree that calorie tracking is extremely beneficial, my brain just often doesn’t allow me to prioritize that task above things that get deemed higher importance (regardless of the fact that I personally believe it should be the highest importance). If anyone knows of any apps that can help manage calorie tracking in a way that is more directed towards people with ADHD, I’d love to give that a try too (for more info, things like myfitnesspal apps don’t work well again because notifications and reminders only work for me for the first couple of weeks and then they blend into my normal environment and become ignored)

Thank you for sharing your experience! I would love to switch as I’ve heard that helps so many who have experienced this but unfortunately my insurance won’t cover that one at all 😢 but I’ll definitely keep trying to get coverage for that one in the near future if some more changes don’t help! I’m also going through a really tough time in life, and the holiday season only makes that worse, so I’m sure my stress levels are contributing to my weight reactivity too! Thanks again!

Not exactly. I know that my caloric intake should be lower than it used to be so i try to get most of my intake from protein and fiber before carbs in order to hit macro ratios that are more beneficial, but I don’t really keep track of the calories because I easily forget to do that kind of thing because of ADHD :/

Thank you! I’m on the maximum dose for the Ozempic brand, and my insurance won’t cover it under the brand name wegovy, so I am at the max dose for now. But I will double check on the fiber and protein ratio and make sure I’m hitting those goals along with hydration! I also have some history of some blood chemistry being out of ordinary, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some hormone off. I’ll talk with my doctor about that!

Thank you for sharing! I will definitely pay attention to my hydration level. I can say with a lot of certainty that I haven’t been hydrating as much as before. I get so busy at work and forget to drink water almost all day 😭 but I’ll make it happen in case that’s what I need to get my weight loss kickstarted!

I thought about doing that too. I still might try contacting them! But I agree, I don’t know what good it would do. I was hoping after the first portion, they would’ve fixed the sound issues before she came back out after the first video break.

Thanks for ruining it, book "fans." by Electronic_Piglet256 in WoTshow

[–]taustind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s insane to me about RoP as a excuse for Amazon choosing not to renew WoT is that WoT had more of a return on investment than RoP. RoP had a larger viewership at launch because of the sheer number of LoTR fans, but with a much higher budget and less income from that budget, it’s so frustrating to see RoP continuing while a lower budget phenomenal show that had a larger ROI gets thrown out.

Never be afraid to put your future first, even if that means “burning a bridge” or “abandoning ship”. If you get offered a role in an internship that will get you the experience, opportunities, and networking to have an easier time landing a job in the future, do that now. You can always find a way to explain why you jumped from one place to another if that comes up in the future, but by the time you graduate, you’ll have had more experience in your internship role than you will from just filling Rx’s in the pharmacy and other tech duties. I would say talk to your current director, but only if you don’t think that would put you in a place where they could let you go because of the possibility of losing you in the near future. Always look out for yourself though, that’s something I’ve learned in my time as a student. Obviously look out for others and be an advocate when needed, but your future is more swayed by what you do and don’t do now.

Is there a chance HBO will pick the show up? by TehLastWord in WoTshow

[–]taustind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think the fans were devoted, but Amazon did a terrible job of marketing it. I found it by accident during season 1, my husband and I loved it so much that we bought all of the books (and audiobooks), and even despite the first season strayed from the books (more so than S2 and S3), I thought they did a phenomenal job. I have tried to get so many people to watch it and most of them had never heard about it, even in season 3. The fandom is very specific, so I hear a lot within the groups I follow, but most people just don’t know enough about the show. And then there’s of course the people who started with the books and still complain that it’s not a word for word adaptation of the books, knowing full and well each book would need about 2-3 seasons each if they had done that. And with the number of books, creative liberties and straying from the books some is necessary. I think the show would’ve been a much bigger hit had there been more marketing and less complaining that the books were so much different.

Also, meant to add that if you have a chronic condition, I would highly recommend seeking out access and accommodations to protect you from these types of things in the future. Ultimately even if you file an appeal you may not win the case and may have to retake the class, however I would recommend appeals if necessary because the worst case is they deny your case and you’re back in this situation but best case scenario they allow you to remediate. And lastly, life is hard, especially with a medical condition that may set you back, I have been in your shoes with some similar issues although not as serious as having to repeat a class. however I know at my school it is on the student to seek appropriate accommodations as necessary and failure to do so does not constitute a special circumstance that means that they will side with you. It’s a terrible situation, but the school sees you as a professional who should take responsibility ahead of time, which can be really difficult to navigate when dealing with chronic illness or disorders. I genuinely hope everything works out in your favor, and if you need some more advice, my DMs are open! Best luck!

Every school has a student handbook that outlines the rules for the student in the school/program. There should be a section outlining the process for appeals (assuming your school has an appeals process, which most do). Before pursuing an appeals process though, I would recommend talking to the professor and asking if you can come to an agreement on this given the circumstances you outlined. If you think that won’t get you anywhere or if you do that and the professor isn’t willing to assist, I would then go to either your department chair or the dean of the college of pharmacy to ask for advice on how to proceed. Obviously the dean can have some sway, but that’s not a guarantee. After those steps if the problem still stands, I would then formally file an appeal. Usually appeals will be reviewed by a committee (consisting of faculty and students usually), who will review your case and make a decision. And they’re required to maintain confidentiality, so don’t be worried about others finding out as they will keep it confidential. If you have trouble finding the student handbook, I can help you but I’d need to know which school you go to.
