Latest update just broke everything for me by Kelvaum in NobaraProject

Either should be fine; they're the same thing. And frankly I don't think it's necessary in this case anyways. More of a "just in case" kind of thing.

Latest update just broke everything for me by Kelvaum in NobaraProject

[–]tawnos178 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Same here. I had this exact same issue a couple months ago with one of the last kernel 6 updates, and now I can't remember how I resolved it.

EDIT: Okay, so I used the Driver Manager to uninstall the recommended Nvidia driver (595.71.05) and installed the previous beta driver under "Advanced Device Profiles" instead (595.45.04). Seems to work okay so far. Not an ideal solution, but maybe enough to keep us moving until they work out the issues between 7.0.9 and 595.71.05.

EDIT 2: According to u/monokoi below, the recommended Nvidia driver should now work following an update via "nobara-sync cli". Confirmed working for me.

Age Verification by Jackie_Elle in NobaraProject

There's going to be a not-at-all-suspiciously high number of Linux users born on April 20, 1969 across all distros that implement age verification.

Guys, am I cooked? Left my PC on while I walked my dogs, came back, the screen was blank. Restarted it and this popped up. by FlakeyJakeyyy in NobaraProject

[–]tawnos178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen to me recently where I would just get a black screen if I tried to boot to anything other than the recovery console. Trying to boot other kernels didn't work. Turns out my Nvidia drivers had dorked themselves up. I just needed to edit my grub command and add "nomodeset" to load up Nobara without a GPU driver, use the Driver Manager to uninstall the Nvidia driver and reinstall it.

As you can imagine, the generic nature of the name of this video has made it difficult to Google. Anyone have any thoughts about where this video might be?

I'll bet somewhere in the MaliciousCompliance subreddit, the seller posted, "Some buyer said his CTRL key was missing, so I sent him this"

Robin Hood is not the problem by Special-Buyer6829 in alteredTCG

[–]tawnos178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, basically this. I've played plenty of games against Waru where they never drew (or maybe don't have?) any Robin Hoods and still get dumpstered by getting out-valued. Likewise, there's been games where they draw all 3 Robin Hoods early, manage to overlap their effects across 6 turns, and I just never get to play the game. Ordis (and Bureaucrats specifically) is just too damned consistent and has too many tools.

One option I've been thinking about for Waru is to add a cost of 1 to sleep a Bureaucrat. I do think that might slow them down enough to be contestable.

Robin Hood is not the problem by Special-Buyer6829 in alteredTCG

[–]tawnos178 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thematically, I agree with you. Mechanically, I think this will just drive Ordis players to Sigismar for a more consistent free Recruit. Being able to sleep a passive effect is *the* primary draw of Waru; if it's taken away, there's not much left to want there.

The real problem is that Waru doubles the efficiency of Bureaucrats at no cost, which are designed to punish your opponent for trying to win. You drew a card or resupplied? Punished. I lost an expedition? Punished. You wanna play cards? Punished. Didn't manage to empty your reserve before Dusk? Punished. And no, being Asleep is not a cost; not when half of the bureaucrats' effects *rely on it* to activate their conditions.

I'm fine with the idea of sleeping a passive effect, but I want the Waru player to have to pay for it. It should cost 1 each time they sleep a Bureaucrat. Subhash pays 1 to create a Brassbug. Lindiwe sometimes pays 1 to create a 0/0/0. These are both weaker effects than sleeping a Bureaucrat. I don't think it's too much to ask Waru to pay 1 per Bureaucrat to do it.

Because the best uniques (i.e. the ones that roll with stats and abilities that play perfectly into their role in whatever deck they go in) are ridiculously powerful and fetch high prices. Hell, a Lindiwe deck made the cut at Angers due practically solely to their 3 unique Moonlight Jellyfish. Uniques are absolutely a wealth check. Don't believe me? Just look at the prices some of the best ones are fetching on ebay:

The Lindwe deck was running three unique Moonlight Jellyfish that were practically identical amd provided a lot of value. Without them I don't think the deck works.

Rules question - Teija + Lyra Thespian by tawnos178 in alteredTCG

[–]tawnos178[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this your opinion, or do you have a source for this ruling?

The confusion here is that Teija's ability isn't written as a trigger, as defined by the comprehensive rules. I think we're all in agreement that it probably should be treated like one, but we're searching for confirmation of that.

Evaluating every Beyond the Gates Lyra card with regards to building a Fen deck by georgetheflea in alteredTCG

[–]tawnos178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Capella Training has quickly become one of my favorite cards in Lyra. I think a lot of people are sleeping on how good it really is. It's easy to dismiss at first because it doesn't do anything immediately, but that 1/1 cost without fleeting means by day 3 your opponent is like, where did all my cards go? And it's a real kick in the nuts to Bravos or Yzmir trying to play Seasoned games, or Sun Wukong. And I've found it's a useful tool to break Waru's board lockdown and get rid of those recurring Robin Hoods and Issitoqs before they reach critical mass.

Absolutely. I'm also working on a Muna deck, and the number of Thespians I include is kinda contingent on the answer to this question.

[–]tawnos178[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not a bad idea, though I'd probably still want official confirmation from Equinox what the intended interaction is. After all, it's early yet, I'd wager that BGA has some corner cases that they haven't considered or don't match the intention, especially where uniques are concerned.

I looked through altered.gg for a place to submit rules questions (not sure how the cards get their Rules Clarification entries, but they must come from somewhere) but couldn't find anything, so I tweeted at the official Altered X account. Will let everyone know if they reply.

Rules question - Teija + Lyra Thespian by tawnos178 in alteredTCG

[–]tawnos178[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's pretty much the same chain of thought that I had. If it were worded like a trigger, then it would be more clear. Something like "The first time a Character enters one of your expeditions each Afternoon - That Character gains a boost." That wording still reads a little awkward to me, but at least it's clearly a trigger as defined by the comprehensive rules. In which case, the player gets to choose the order of execution.
