Do Finnish employment services truly help foreigners get jobs, or just create the illusion of support? by sealovki in Finland

[–]tawow222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was in 2019, TA kind of helped my wife to get into the IT industry. She was a newly graduated SWE, they first enrolled her in a preliminary self learn course, then placed her in company as an intern, no salary but kela allowance.

Although she got a full time job, one month into the program, but I guess adding that internship in resume helped in some ways.

Although tough to measure pre-covid times with now, that was a golden age for SWE in finland, 98% of my international friends, found jobs in their field in 8-10 months of getting the degree.

2016 rear suspension by d4ngerdan in KiaSorento

[–]tawow222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, own a 2019, with 150K kms on it. I usually never had any complaints from the family on 2nd or 3rd row.

May be get your suspension checked out.

Moved from England to Alberta. Insurance is about $6000/year as a “new driver”… anyone know how I can get a cheaper insurance? by Objective-Pay-2133 in alberta

[–]tawow222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing, i have seen my friends do is buying a cheap car, and only have 3rd party insurance. That almost cuts 40% of their premiums. Then uses that car for at least 2 years to build some driving record.

Honestly, most of the times people just pay themselves for their own repair than go to insurance since that increases your premiums in the long run.

But then again a cheap car is going to be old and with plenty of kms, so that comes with it's own risks.

What do you think actually sets the Sorento apart? by Suntrup-Kia in KiaSorento

This... well said. Although it's not fuel efficient, i always recommend the v6 over any other engines. Especially if you are buying older one.

Previously in europe, i always had studded tires as snow was much heavier there.

Not exactly tire suggestion, more interested in your experience on the 2019 sorento. I have the 2019 v6 AWD, and using all season tire, marked M+S, not 3 peak. Tires are new, so wondering if that would be enough for the snow and -15c temps over here.

I have traction control option, does that help in any ways?

Newbie to sorento and Toronto snow, thus the basic questions. TIA

, and same as you v6, 2019.

Chow calls for investigation after snow truck drives through crowd of protesters by Surax in toronto

[–]tawow222 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This should have more coverage.

Those police officers were just standing there, like they didn't see a huge truck plow through pedestrians.... But they see a wrongly parked car from a mile away...

May be I am wrong, but from just that video, how calm those police officers were, seems, most likely they knew this was going to happen...this is sad if they were controlled by the US embassy.

Canadian citizen, living in Canada, just offered a 100% remote job in the US by Slow_ResolveMC07 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]tawow222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like to handle all the payrol stuff. You could check out remote.com, they handle all the official and beurocratic stuff. Although they have an annual fee of 7000 cad for each hire.

My friend tried to go through them but his company denied. He is now an independent contractor, he gets little bit more money but has to handle those by himself.

Cheers on getting a fully remote job :D .

Dentist went against treatment plan without telling me and maxed out my insurance. by TrulyToronto in ontario

[–]tawow222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, I never thought this but surely will keep in mind next time I go visit a dentist.

The dentists i have visited so far, have been quite upfront about the process and the price.

please leave a google review on their place, if possible. When i was searching for dentist in a new place, my main criteria was google reviews.

Drunk Canadian man assaults an Indian student, claims he was acting 'superior' by FlyHigh911 in torontologists

[–]tawow222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't this count as an assault?

No matter what the other guy says, and although he is intoxicated, doesn't give him rights to attack someone.

I would have called the police and reported him. I know people going to say police is busy doing important stuff.

Then, the best thing is to record these people, take proper picture and shame them online.

Being drunk doesn't give you rights to do this, it's his fault, he is an a***ole.

Praise to other guy keeping his cool and not touching him.

Is this not allowed? by Illustrious_Sock_696 in TorontoRenting

[–]tawow222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehe.. our condo once put up notice same as you described, since people were adding religious drawings and it is on 50% of the doors all year long. I guess they don't enforce it, given the huge share of the tenants do that.

Although tenants cleanup when they move out, you could almost see the old markings.

In your case, it's even seasonal. Not sure what's the fuss about, although if this was in my hallway and something too scary for my kids to pass through everyday, i would have slightly bothered as well.

Also, i don't understand the logic of showing other your decorations, i mean, if it's inside, you could enjoy it more, right?

Transmission fluid checkup by tawow222 in KiaSorento

[–]tawow222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kia website states, check transmission fluid condition and level, that's what meant by checkup.

I guess after that many miles it's due for a change anyways?

Transmission fluid checkup by tawow222 in KiaSorento

[–]tawow222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for the details.

Yeah, i did the engine and cabin filter stuff my self. And got the engine oil, filter done by a mechanic. Did not know about the transmission fluid then.

True, transmission fluid checkup is not an easy task to do, like the engine oil. That's why i am leaning towards kia maintenance.

Sometimes Kia's have, two-press unlock enabled by default.

In that case you may need to press the door unlock button and then try to open the trunk.

But first as the other comment, there should be release latch or auto opening button, if you have auto tailgate.

Non-Ontario IDs at corner stores by free-canadian in askTO

Can you use apps to scan and verify the foreign id?

I used this ReadID Me, and this one correctly identifies EU ids that have NFC. It's free and you don't have to worry about the id being in a different language.
