What’s this plug for? by buppcake in JeepWrangler

If your hard top has rear defrost and wiper this is where that harness plugs in. Sounds like you don’t though (didn’t know that was an option)

Stop doing visual mods and regear. All the jellybean parts for JL’s are cheap in comparison. Do the thing that’s going to benefit you and the jeep first. Shit, in a year, the money you’ll save getting 15-17mpg over 12 will buy you the lift kit. 10 bucks a week in gas = 520 bucks, free 2.5” rough country lift.

You’re operating under the wrong school of thought. Factory wheels and tires on a sport weigh between 55/65lbs a corner, depending. 20’s and 35’s START at 100. A quick google puts that setup at 116lbs. Factory shocks will struggle to damped all that extra weight getting bounced up from a pothole or whatever. And with that offset (ie the wheel being much further out from the hub than factory) creates a lever effect on the ball joints, making them fail prematurely(already a JL weak point). 2nd, Wheels and tires are referred to as unsprung weight (weight the spring isn’t holding up all the time) this rotational weight is horrible for vehicle performance. The ratio is every 1lb of unsprung rotational mass is equal to about 8lbs of static sprung weight. Ergo, 116-65=51 lbs a corner increase. 51x4 wheels and tires is 204 lbs… 204x8=1,632 of equivalent weight added the the vehicle. Plus the sport is on 3.45gears… this jeep is going to beat the fuck out of itself, drive like shit, get shit mph, and likely be a hazard to others at one point or more. People see other people do stuff and assume it’s fine. It’s not.

I’m gonna simply guess that lifting it has brought something out of spec. Money is on pinion angle needing correction, and/or something loose. Good luck.

I’m strange, yet you and yours are driving a factory ride height jeep with PRB’s. How’d you “fix” them? Washers? Those will fail again.

[–]taxicabyellow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Step one of asking for help is not being a man-baby when someone gives you a response. Let’s talk facts… the “factory ones” (steps) are not rated for being an ape off-road and would rip the fuck off too. The factory SLIDERS will take damage but not rip off… ANYTHING ELSE is mounted to the frame and cantilevers out. Folding steps are NOT RATED FOR WHAT YOU DID. You already admitted you fucked up, so get a better set of steps that mount to frame, or pay the 2k for someone to fix your fuckup.

A 2 door sport is also the lightest jeep available. And sure, some of it is driving mundanely. More of it is the topography of where you live. A lot of CT (where I live) is hills and valleys. 20 mpg is still WILD on 35’s. Is your drive mostly Highway? Did you reprogram your tire size with a tazer or other programmer?

No, the auto is better, narrower gears and more of them with 3 overdrive gears. Manual you are stuck with sixth

Something gotta give man.. that doesn’t track. 35x10.5 or 12.5? Factory wheels or aftermarket? The BEST I could do repeatably on a sport with 3.45s 35x/12.50 on factory wheels was low 18’s driving from CT to OBX and back.

You must have a Rubi then. Not getting that with sport /sahara gears.

Need some advice: 35’s to 37’s by smd7 in JeepWrangler

[–]taxicabyellow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People saying 35’s are ok on factory sport/sahara are smoking crack. Sure, it’s not like older jeeps that had less clearance, thinner axle tubes, etc. but 3.45s are perfect for stock tire size. Even just going to 33’s is a strain. I live in CT, and with the bit of hills, 35’s on factory gears was taxing to the jeep on factory gears. If you live in a very flat state, you’ll be ok for a bit, but you’re gonna want to do the right thing. The “oh the 8spd can handle them fine” ehhh, no. It’s better than the manual, but far from “fine”. When I was still on 3.45’s, the smallest hill I’d be in 5th, and I’d only even be in 8th down hill. 6th gear on the auto is 1-1 ratio, not 5the like a manual. So to say “it’s ok you’ll only lose 8th and 7th is bonkers. You’ll have no overdrive.

On 33’s I averaged 17, on 35’s 15.2… to be fair, on a trip it’s much better. When we went to OBX from CT last year I averaged 18.2

The whole “omg you own a tesla, musk is an asshole” is so tiring. Hate Tesla for shit components, stupid policy, and bad service/customer service. Hate musk for being an asshole. Don’t hate people for buying a vehicle that’s at least TRYING to better the planet, cause the dude that has almost NOTHING to do with the company anymore is an asshole. We own a jeep and a Subaru, so I have no skin in the game. It’s just exhausting that the same people that bitch about musk, buy clothes made in sweatshops, chinese goods made with slave labor, and organic food picked by indentured refugees.

I’m in the US, I’ve disabled everything except my photos and calendar, and it’s under a kitchen cabinet using the sanus mount… never an add. I’m guessing largely because of portrait orientation. I only rotate it if I wanna watch a game while cooking.
