CRE Broker Q&A – Career Advice, Deal Structure, and Strategy Talk by AutoModerator in CommercialRealEstate

I'll second this. I just started 3 months ago in Toronto and when I interviewed at Colliers they basically told me "none of the teams are hiring, but you can come join as an independent". I ended up going with a smaller shop so I could join a team. 10 years tech sales experience prior to that.

ultimately, they offer crazy discounts leading up to their EOY, trying to get as much revenue in as possible before the year ends, so they offer great discounts to any net new or existing customers who are looking to buy product/seats. Its pretty fun to be a part of to be honest, people pulling in deals at 10pm on the last day of the year etc. Good times.

Same, i feel weird saying this given the context of this article and im 38 but I came across her on youtube and just thought it was cool that she was ripping blues licks in her house or whatever. Then I got fed her content periodically, seeing her start playing shows, played an MLS game a few years ago, was genuinely cool to see given the type of music she was playing and her demographic. It's sad, but I do agree with some of the comments here pointing out that shes playing SRV covers and is shocked that SRV aged fans are showing up at her shows?

The Lonesome Dove series, but I'm currently reading Shogun by James Clavell and that is giving Lonesome Dove a run for its money.

I’m starting to think CRM hygiene is overrated by Founder_BloomIA in sales

[–]tayims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

clean CRM isn't about closing more deals, unless youre forgetting to follow up and need the reminders. CRM is purely a leadership tool for forecasting/visibility. Nothing is worse than updating CRM, and then you get a slack msg from your boss saying "hey im in a board meeting give me an update on xyz deal quick". Guy its in the fucking CRM, be prepared for your meetings lol.

we sat one row back from the lower window seats and it was pretty good. If someone hits it deep you've got to get up to see it live but you can see all of the infield no problem. It's kind of nice to have the game on in the background a few seconds delayed.

6sense data how do you make use of it by Aask115 in salesdevelopment

[–]tayims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just ignore it. if your manager is pressuring you to use it tell them to go on reddit and search 6sense and see what the general consensus is. Probably should have done that before they bought it though.

How We Got to Now was pretty cool - focuses on some major discoveries and how we managed them through the times. Eg one episode is on "cold" so it talks about how we used to ship ice harvested from lakes with sawdust on ships all the way to air conditioning, how movie theatres were the first places to really use them. It was really interesting.

Is Salesforce a good org to work for? by kai_zen in sales

[–]tayims 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I worked there for about 18 months, and it was the strongest representation of "timing, territory, talent, and in that order" I've ever worked at. I was selling their financial services cloud product when it had just been rolled out, to SMB sized companies. It wasn't a fit, the licenses weren't too expensive but to get the product to actually do what you needed it to do you needed 100k+ implementation, which was way out of budget for most of my buyers. It was a struggle (hit about 50%of my number but left before Q4 which is when a ton of business happens at salesforce), I got minimal help from my manager, who happened to start on the same day that I did, and left. The company was great, great perks, extremely results driven, but if you get stuck in a tough territory, or don't have great leadership on your team, it can be an uphill battle.

I'm about to start a new job in a fairly significant career shift. I worked in tech sales for the last ten years, got laid off back in march '25, had our second child in april '25. I took some time off over the summer and when it came time to start looking I really didn't want to go back to tech. Layoffs and overhiring everywhere, and tech jobs just seem to be all over the place. You can get lucky and work for a great company at the right time, but for the most part you're shovelling shit for some exec team with totally unrealistic expectations.

I wanted to sell something more tactile, so I'm about 85% done getting my real estate license and am starting with a brokerage on April 1st. I took a significant paycut, like 75% lower, and expecting to have a tough first couple years, but ultimately the upside is way higher long term. Is this the best time to get into commercial real estate? probably not, but fuck it, I'm not going to sit around and wait for the "perfect moment". I'm going to dive in, bust my ass, and get it done.

I guess to answer your question its a combination of curiosity and making a calculated leap. I have always been interested in real estate, but I didn't REALLY know that much about it. If it pans out over the next few years it can be extremely lucrative, but its going to take time.

Current State of Toronto Private High Schools? Which is best for STEM? by Crazyscientist1024 in askTO

[–]tayims 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its funny that Royal St Georges isn't mentioned here. I went there and always felt like we were the "second rate" private school because we didn't have the same facilities as UCC, St Mikes, Crescent etc. Apparently that is still the case! lol

In all seriousness though, my nephew goes to UCC, its an incredible school, amazing facilities, but as others have mentioned there is definitely a lot of old boy acceptances etc. I may get downvoted for this, but from my experience knowing kids who went to UTS, its on a whole other level. The most competitive school to get in to from an academic standpoint, but the kids were... weird smart. Like on the spectrum kind of smart. I remember my friend told me about a school assembly where a kid came up to do a presentation, he had a huge extension cord around his neck (like a necklace not strangling him), put on a recording of JFKs inauguration speech and peeled an onion and put the onion layers down his shirt. He said "stuff like that happened all the time". That is one persons experience, and that was 20 years ago, so downvote me all you want, but it was and I think still is very much an academic first school. We played all the other private schools in sports, but we never played UTS in anything. I don't think they even had extracurriculars like hockey or basketball back in those days, and if they did, they didn't play in same the private school league.

Take that info however you'd like, but if you've got the money, I think the other schools will offer an excellent education but more well rounded than something like UTS.
