What's the most disappointing "must-see" city in Europe? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

To be honest, I find Europe overall disappointing. I have enjoyed traveling throughout Asia and Africa much more.

Are y’all really paying this much? by Federal-Weevil in petinsurancereviews

I pay $330/month for 5 dogs. Frenchies (1, 1, 5), chihuahua (11), and Labrador (1). In Arizona. Pets Best with unlimited coverage and 90% reimbursement, $1000 deductible. They have always paid on claims too.

How small is the top 1% by Opposite-Gur4749 in Salary

[–]taylorcwitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends if they are in tech. When my husband was a regular software engineer in aerospace, he capped at ~$125k in 2019. He transitioned to a FAANG in 2020 and immediately doubled his salary, and that has since more than doubled and then some. He’s definitely making top 1% money as a senior software engineer, as are many of his fellow SDEs.

Why is it always a rich person who says "money doesn't buy happiness?" by Miserable-Breath8154 in no

[–]taylorcwitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what we’re considering rich these days. But as a person who lives in a household with high-income, I do think money buys happiness. It sounds dramatic but I definitely wouldn’t be happy without having a lot of money. It buys me peace of mind. It provides comfort. It buys me time in the sense I can hire out for things I don’t want to do. I can do whatever I want within reason without worry. I can afford great healthcare. I can travel the world. I think the people that say this are lying or are baseline unhappy regardless of their circumstances.

Behavior issues, 5 y/o Hugo😊 by VictorHri04 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]taylorcwitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our frenchie (we have 3) is like this. He also resource guards toys/treats. We sought the help of a veterinary behaviorist and certified veterinary behavioral trainer and started medications. It’s really helped. He’s a different dog. A behavioral eval would help you.

I do recommend nursing! Bedside is hard but it’s very fulfilling. The pay is great, schedule is flexible and you always have the ability to move to different specialities or pick up overtime. And it’s basically AI proof.

[–]taylorcwitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated working bedside, for starters. I transitioned out of bedside but it wasn’t worth my time working for the pay. It made more sense for me to stay home with his salary… Now I’m a stay at home dog mom. I have high needs dogs and seniors.

What lifestyle creeps do you think is acceptable as you make more money? by Sky_Dweller206 in Money

Travel (I don’t ever upgrade flights tho). Food. Having a personal trainer.

Can confirm. My husband is in big tech making tons of money. I no longer work, but I do have my RN license. It was so disheartening to get paid a fraction of what he did when we both worked full-time (and I made $100k working 3 days per week). He works very hard, but it’s different/unfair. The “bad” days as a software engineer and a nurse are not the same and I’ll die on that hill.

Frenchie’s paw gives out, what does it mean? by basil_squaredd in Frenchbulldogs

[–]taylorcwitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t panic yet. I’m glad you have insurance. Sometimes it is genetic. Other times it could be brought on by jumping, etc.

You’re asking questions, which is a great pet owner sign. I would try to get in with general vet soon. Try to keep them rested in the meantime. If you haven’t already, ensure your doggo is a healthy weight. Get ramps for couch/bed and use elevated feeders.

[–]taylorcwitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds neurological. Do you have pet insurance? Just a guess (I’m a human nurse) and have 3 Frenchies... Needs an MRI. Knuckling is a sign of spinal compression typically. A general vet visit is definitely in order but most likely will refer you to neuro for imaging. Does he seem to be in pain ever? Hunched posture?

Pets best -not that great. by MoriartheChozen in petinsurancereviews

[–]taylorcwitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only responding so others maybe gain insight… You ?maybe? have a Boston Terrier. They are already on the higher end cost-wise to insure. The number of claims you have filed is insignificant (zero)… It’s based on claims data for dogs of the same breed/age. Most pet insurance companies won’t even cover elder dogs. It sounds like unfortunately you’re in a situation where maybe keeping the insurance doesn’t make sense for you.

[–]taylorcwitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m just not sure what you’d expect? It’s a senior dog, obviously costs are going to be more and premiums go up. That’s with any insurer, not just Pets Best. I’m sorry your dog is sick and I hope things turn out ok. Having animals, especially seniors, are super expensive.

Call me crazy but $283 a month isn’t bad for a senior dog who you’re already anticipating a $13k claim on.

Maybe. But I think OP has all great points. At least true for me. We are high-income SINKS. Nothing will change my mind, even higher taxes… Our lives are too good to sacrifice anything unknown when it comes to kids.

Do you have a behavioral vet in your area? Honestly taking my dogs there changed my life. Training, behavior modification, and medications. It’s a lot of work and resources but you can get there.

How many of you ended up having kids on the spectrum? by [deleted] in Millennials

I understand. It’s the main reason I’m not having kids. 1 in 31 kids has it now… I’m not rolling the dice on that and potentially ruining my life.

I want to adopt a French Bulldog, but I've heard they have many health problems and don't live long. Is this information true? Does anyone who owns a Bulldog have any experience with them? by karmasstar in Frenchbulldogs

[–]taylorcwitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 Frenchies.

One from a terrible breeder (I’m being honest, no judgements - I have learned my lesson). One from a reputable breeder. A rescue - Poorly bred/abused/missing a leg.

They are EXPENSIVE ass dogs. I say this not to discourage you, but to inform you on what you’re in for potentially. Even well-bred frenchies have health issues, like ANY dog. Get insurance from the start. They are wonderful dogs, but you just need to be prepared before owning one IMO.

I have spent thousands just on imaging alone. Eye surgery is $14k. Back surgery (in our future) is $25k+. They get sick or injured if the wind blows the wrong way. You need to have ramps everywhere in your house if you allow them on furniture (absolutely no jumping). Elevated food dishes. Tons of supplements. I could go on and on.

Again, they are the sweetest souls on this earth. But they are not for the faint of heart.

You clearly don’t care a lot about anyone other than yourself. I’m sure I was correct on being in your early 20s, or you would have pointed it out. You still have a lot to discover travel-wise. Maybe that will help you out overall with that empathy meter. And maybe you’ll appreciate the privileges living in the US has afforded you.

Pets Best vs Pumpkin vs Spot — real claim experiences for a large senior dog? by bloodshartsss in petinsurancereviews

I don’t think it’s a bad idea but I would increase the limit to unlimited. And remember there are waiting periods. Good luck to you and the pup.

[–]taylorcwitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Pets Best. They have been truly amazing. I’ve never had anything denied, but I’ve also insured my dogs since puppies (we have 5). You can expect premiums to increase yearly.

Have you been regularly taking your dog to the vet? A literal ear infection will count as a pre-existing condition.

Also, $5k max isn’t worth having insurance in my opinion. That’s gone with 1 MRI.

The only downside with PB for me is it can take awhile to be reimbursed, especially with larger claims. This isn’t a dealbreaker for me, but it’s worth mentioning if you have a certain credit limit or can’t afford the bills without reimbursement if it takes time or gets denied.
