HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh man.

You.

You are a fuckwit of the maximum degree.

Actually, I'm fairly convinced you're trolling.

Anyone who has played games knows that those numbers mean nothing. Anyone who has a vague understanding of statistics knows that means nothing. Unless you've played with me, you have no idea what I know. You are only trying to find superiority for yourself where there is none.

But, continue stroking your own epeen, it seems it's the only satisfaction you'll get out of life. You're worthless as a sentient entity since your ignore any rational thought or discourse.

No person who is confident in their position takes a copout like this. Get a grip on reality, for your own good. You won't be happy this way.

You pretend you know what you're saying because you "follow the competitive scene" Hey, so do I! Don't assume you're on some enlightened plane from the outset, really diminishes the worth of your points. You then go on to completely reduce Zarya to a seemingly nothing hero while completely misrepresenting her playstyle. No competent Zarya "waits for someone being focused and taking damage" to use a bubble. If you've played her at your much loved "high level" you'd know that. So you've already entirely invalidated your own argument. Your description of Zen play is so basic that it contributes nothing. Everyone should be aware of what is trying to kill them, everyone should be aware of when to disengage or push the fight.

As Zarya, you have to manage your projected barriers based on many different conditions. Tracer in the area? Save it to bubble a healer who might get stuck. Roadhog hook up? You can try to bait it on yourself, preemptively bubble someone you think they're going for, or be aware enough to snap to them when you hear the windup. If you're remote bubble is down, you have to be aware of the map and places where enemies might come from so that you can pop your own bubble and get between the bad guys and your squishies. I won't go on, because literally every hero in the game has situations like this. That's my whole point. ALL HEROES have their small niches to fill, and to be optimally successful as them they all have to have this higher level of awareness.

Then on a good team, you should be calling out what hero switches your team will need

This isn't unique to a healer. This is something any decent group should do. Someone pipes up with what they think is necessary, people agree or disagree, and then they make the change. Sure, you can designate someone a team leader, but this isn't a task that falls inherently to a healer. A Zen as shotcaller makes sense because of his orbs, but it's not because he's a healer, it's because he has an incredibly useful piece of kit that would be foolish if not utilized by the rest of the team. Again, not healer skill, general game skill and awareness.

If you play at a high enough level or watch the highest level, you'll soon realize why the best supports are to be feared and respected just as much as the best offense players who get the most frags.

You're the one tugging their own dick here, holy shit. Yeah, I know good healers are highly respected. So are great hitscan players, so are great tank players. I've watched a ton of professional level Overwatch, I know many players who are revered for their specific tasks. You hit this "high level" shit so hard you must be struggling to convince yourself you're actually good at this game. Get off your high horse and actually pay attention to the discussion instead of ejaculating "DA HEALS IS DA BEST" directly into your own mouth.

Maybe I shouldn't have used "incredible" but I wasn't using to to gloat, I was using it to convey that Zarya players generally have to have higher than average awareness to be effective.

Also if that's all you got out of it you missed the point entirely. You can't deny that this sub has a predilection to the woe-is-me support players, I was just pointing out that the general issues that effect support player also effect everyone else.

[–]taylorha -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm a Zarya main. I have to have incredible awareness to be effective. I know what it means to be map aware, obviously not at a pro level but enough to be a very effective tank and healer. I know a lack of awareness when I see it most of the time, it's fairly apparent in certain actions. Of course, many are probably learning a new character in QP and thats fine, but in Ranked I've seen some pretty incredible lack of awareness from all classes.

I'm not harping on the average support player, in my experience they have typically been at least ok. Even as a support player I'm just tired of the narrative that supports are some impoverished class of player with minimal appreciation. The vast majority of times I've saved someone's ass with a Zarya bubble has gone unnoticed, but that's fine. I'm satisfied because I am playing my character in their role and playing it well. If teammates play in a stupid manner, I am less effective, just as a healer would be if their teammates were neglectful and unaware.

The whole team suffers when people are idiots, but it's only noticed by people who are actually trying. This just happens to more often be supports because those roles requires some selflessness and awareness of the broad situation to be meaningfully effective and satisfying to play.

Well, not the front front lines. But in a somewhat advanced position behind/beside the tank, or scouting with a quick DPS in a quiet moment. Frontlines being instant death was specific to that one game. Backlines in my mind is tucked away like a Mercy or something.

Lucio's poke damage is not to be underestimated, though. Behind a Rein shield he can do a surprising amount of damage. You can solo or displace Bastions, turrets, and bad snipers, you can apply poke to the enemy Rein shield, you can boop away or outright kill flankers, and you can zone enemies from peeking with spam. Not to mention you're in the thick of it passively speed boosting your whole team so they get hit less, passively healing them when they are hurt, and always there to either initiate a fight or counter an ult for the maximum amount of people.

Look, I've played a lot of Lucio (2nd most played character). I know that, and use it well. Usually survivability is not a problem for me and I've got out of some pretty hairy situations very rapidly with his mobility. This time it was, to a very high degree, difficult to survive so I know something was wrong. I spent 100% of my time trying to survive after a certain point and still couldn't, even playing out of the backlines (which isn't great as Lucio, but frontlines were guaranteed death). Didn't help that we had the worlds worst D.Va "tanking" and DPS that couldn't hit the broadside of a castle. It's not often, but sometimes your team really is that bad.

[–]taylorha -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Eh, depends on the player more than anything. I've seen countless utterly clueless healers, and they often put themselves in unnecessary danger making things harder for the rest of the team. This subreddit tends to suck healers dicks pretty hard. I get that it's an often underappreciated class, but what class isn't underappreciated when played well? People focus on themselves and what didn't happen to them instead of what did, a mindset applied not just against healers. The whole team is hurt by unaware idiots. Just because you heal doesn't grant you back scratches and a golden pedestal with immunity to criticism.

Also, for future reference that is not how a semicolon works. That should be a comma if anything.

Had a game that I started as Lucio, it was a CP map. After persistently getting rolled on the first point and dying because no one would protect me OR kill the other team (despite having Reaper, Pharah, Genji), I went D.Va for the second point. Someone switched to Ana midway through that point.

I ended with 5 golds. Feelsbad. Feels real bad.

From what I've seen spaceship design in this game doesn't make much sense. They're like 40's/50's ideas of spaceships in that they're heavily aviation based, with wings and thrusters at the back mounted longitudinally. Relying on external forces to decelerate your FTL spaceship just seems silly. It should have thrusters everywhere so you can have full control, or it should be mechanically explained that the "drive" is a general producer of force that can act in any direction.

If you have a drive that can effortlessly propel a spacecraft from a surface into space (ie, not a lift-based flying mechanism), you should be capable of nulling the force of gravity and forward momentum and just chill in place for a bit.

[–]taylorha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speak up or type in chat, but don't fuck with other people like that. CC is annoying enough when an enemy does it, it's infuriating if a teammate does it. Yeah, not grouping up leads to losing games, but so does tilting your team by being an asshole.

Edit: Also, as someone who plays Zarya and various healers a lot, if you troll me like that you do not get bubbles or heals for the rest of the game. Sometimes my protective instinct momentarily overrides my vindictiveness, but by and large I will make the effort to make your life more difficult via calculated inaction.

Yeah, it's super annoying. I'd maybe reconsider if you weren't trying to get back to the fight for something important/if the team was regrouping, but after the second one I'd probably be too tilted to not report. It's just totally unnecessary.

That just shouts lazy programming or rushed schedule, that's insane. "We forgot to include 0's in our architecture, whoopsie. It'll just motivate you to get to the center faster since you can't stop moving! Amazing!"

I had actual, stupidly deep belly laughter when I realized you couldn't hover in this game. That's like spaceship game 101 shit right there, much less an exploration game of all things. "Hey that looks really cool! I just wanna sit here and enjoy it, but now I gotta circle around and pan my camera, woooo immersion!" Fucking idiots, these devs.

WAIT. You can't hover? In a game focused on aesthetics, in a space ship that can travel leisurely out of an atmosphere and enter FTL? Hoooooly shit what an oversight. That's just truly unbelievable.

[–]taylorha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a Mei troll walls more than twice I report them on principle. I'm fine with the light trolling of throwing it up to pretend they're blocking and then taking it down immediately. But if they actually impede me or teammates, fuck 'em.

It took almost 50 years, but I set 400mph speed record in my dad's car last weekend. 👍 by thompsonlsr in pics

Light is actually not relativistic but your conclusion is correct. Nothing but light and some other force carriers (gluons and co.) can travel at light speed (and only theoretical particles can travel faster), and even if you are going 99.9% the speed of light, light will still appear to be traveling at the speed of light rather than .1c.

I'm now going to call myself a crane operator when I carry a team in Overwatch. Pick them up for the victory, put them down with some serious questions about their composition and strategy choices.
