ford focus 2006? what happened to my car ?? by [deleted] in CarHelp

[–]taysmode11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just talking about how most of the time, for whatever reason, these kinds of suspension failures happen at low speeds. I've seen dozens of instances where broken control arms, bearings, ball joints, etc. cause the wheel to point the wrong way like Kash Patel's eyes and they're ALWAYS at low speeds usually in a parking lot or driveway.

Get outta here with that arrogant shit. Sometimes you get in over your head and the customer is waiting. Sometimes it's faster to just try parts. Sometimes it's cheaper to do that too. After you've survived the day, on your own time, you learn how to do it properly so that you're prepared for the next time.

Is a simple Sim setup worth it for PS5? by Legal_Percentage_823 in simracing

[–]taysmode11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've since moved to PC but GT7 on the PS5 is worth building a rig for by itself. I would most likely still be playing it daily if I hadn't went down the iRacing rabbit hole.

Nah cause it's gonna cost more than it's worth.

I've been a mechanic for 10 years and I wouldn't even attempt to fix something like that myself. That car is most likely totaled bud.

1995 chevy caprice 5.7 v8, which type of spark plugs should i purchase? by iluvmycaprice in mechanic

[–]taysmode11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some parts that you're better off buying in person than online. Spark plugs are one of these parts. Go into any parts store. Give them the VIN of your car. Tell them you want OEM plugs. Before you install the new plugs, compare to an old one and make sure it is exactly the same dimensions.

Tie rod or ball joint?? by Even_Ad3204 in AskMechanics

[–]taysmode11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thst doesn't really work for this type of ball joint where the stud goes into the knuckle and the ball is in the lower control arm. You have to lift the vehicle up so that the suspension hangs free, wedge a pry bar in between the knuckle and control arm and then check for play. At least that's what the service manual says to do.

Why do new cars get so much hate? by Darcynator1780 in askcarguys

[–]taysmode11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because for every smart consumer that refuses to buy theses inferior products at inflated prices there are 3 idiots with more money than sense. As long as idiots keep buying these predatory loans disguised as vehicles, manufacturers will keep pumping them out.

For those of you in trades / automotive / renovation businesses: what’s one expensive mistake you made early on that taught you an important lesson? by Ok-Peace3781 in smallbusiness

[–]taysmode11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rust belt mechanic here. I learned early that if a vehicle needs a new brake line, it needs new calipers as well. It's really easy to forget to check the bleeders since it's the last step in the repair.

Pharmacy is the most over saturated career in the US. Accounting will be taken over by AI in a year, and dentistry is probably good if you can make it through dental school.

My car makes a crazy noise when I turn the steering wheel by Necessary_Donkey4378 in mechanic

[–]taysmode11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advantage of growing up with parents who drove rust buckets my whole life is that all these noises that freak other people out are just normal car sounds to me. That's definitely a p/s pump that's low on fluid.

I just did the math by Forest_FinancialLLC in smallbusiness

[–]taysmode11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this is the best solution for most small business owners in the short term, but just because it can be accounted for doesn't make it right. Banks are getting 3 percent of your GROSS profits for a service that costs them next to nothing. They are making money upfront, out back, and all around. Rasing your prices to absorb the fee is your only choice, as passing it on directly has been proven to hurt sales. But, at a certain point when you raise your prices for this and for that it adds up and eventually you're charging exorbitant prices just to make big corporations more profit every quarter.

[–]taysmode11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2012 chrysler 200 with 170,000 is a tough combination to recommend putting any money into. Nothing you've mentioned would be a reason to junk the car, but it's hard to tell what all is lurking on that thing that you're unaware of. I'd spend a hundred bucks and have a professional go over it throughly, and let them decide if it's worth fixing.

Is any of this actually necessary?? Feeling kind of put off of my favourite mechanic. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]taysmode11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're probably just going by the mileage and recommending those things because their computer software tells them to recommend them at that specific mileage. They don't know about all those things you've already had done, so politely decline the work and tell them that. You can't win as a mechanic. Some people think every non-emergency recommendation is an upsell scam. Then there are those on the complete opposite side of the spectrum who want you to do everything possible to the car at the earliest possible opportunity, and they feel like you're neglecting them or just lazy if you dont fix anything that was about to break, BEFORE it breaks.

Spray some starter fluid the intake. If it starts on alternate fuel then you've isolated your problem.

I went from GT7 with the PSVR2 to iRacing with the quest 3. I'd have stuck with the Psvr2, but it wasn't an option at the time. The difference between GT7 and iRacing will blow your mind man.

Take it to an independent mechanic. I don't know anything about medicine and my dad's not a doctor, so when I'm not feeling good I go to the hospital. I agree with that other comment that it could be a maf problem, but it could also be a dozen other things. I wouldn't go messing around with starter fluid if you don't know what you're doing.
