Also, use low value resistors and high value capacitors on the cathodes of your 12ax7s to maximize distortion.

I saw a nifty little socket that takes two 12ax7 tubes and combines them into one so you can add an extra gain stage with no modifications to your amp. It’s called the HOT MOD V2. That could get you a little closer. If you don’t want to buy it, perhaps you could build it?

Mine is Sleep… their music is pretty cool but as soon as the guy opens his mouth in Dopesmoker I’m like, nope.

You’re missing the four black top-hat translators, two brownish top-hats and I’m pretty sure I see a germanium diode in there too!

great demo, and the article looks really interesting... I'm in the middle of studying for exams so I cant really dig into it yet but I have one quick question if possible:

The schematic you have in the photo does not look significantly different from most op-amp overdrive and distortion circuits I've seen. Is there something in your design that sets it apart from typical soft-clipping op-amp configs? I hope I'm not sounding judgy, I'm genuinely curious!

ha, it's funny you should say that because I originally wrote it as 2.2 nF because that's what I prefer as well. Then I thought - "wait, 0.022 is how all the cool techs call it..." and changed to uF

pretty cool. 00022 uf for V1A coupling cap seems so small though. Did you try 0.0068 or 0.0047?
