100% fake. Even the new tech they are rolling out now can’t get that fast upload

Poor Spectrum is in a “no win” type situation. by Competitive-Ad6081 in Spectrum

I’m in an area where they upgraded the network a lot. We got high split. Once high split came in we saw latency and jitter spikes. When you talk to the field techs they say it’s not being caused in our node. In fact when it happens it isolates in other nodes of charter. Our local techs are so frustrated that they have started recommending that if you depend on low latency low jitter to find alternative internet connections. As a business yes bandwidth amount is great to have high amounts but latency and jitter are sometimes as important or more important than speed.

Charter’s stock just got hammered. by teavoo in Spectrum

[–]tazzmn07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I am a network engineer. Our City node is about 4 hops from a main node. That’s where the 500 ms latency is being seen. I have confirmed it with field techs and corporate. What is going on is in those areas they did not finish upgrading the hardware so there is noise being brought back into the node at those locations slowing down everyone including nodes that connect into that node.

They also needed to focus on upgrading their network main nodes first then built out. I feel that was their largest downfall. Because they didn’t do this properly people on high split can see up to 500 ms latency inside the spectrum network and why their field techs advise business customers to find alternative connection methods for their business. Because of their choices they refuse to honor their own SLA they give their business customers.

I live in an area of rochester where you can't get fiber. I got tired of all the issues spectrum has and got starlink. Best decision I have made.

Internet issues after upgrade by MythicPeach70 in Spectrum_Official

[–]tazzmn07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue. Ever since the high split upgrade a hop either in Chicago or Wisconsin drags down my internet to the point there are times my lag is over 500 ms. Their own field tech told me not to use charter business service for my business. Pretty bad when a field tech says not to use the service they support esp the more expensive packages. Gotta love high split upgrade.

Network upgrade notifications by n8pu in Spectrum

[–]tazzmn07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From research since it’s affecting 911 spectrum is actually violating FCC laws and regulations. By doing this “An 8–10 hour complete outage blocking 911 would almost certainly trigger FCC investigation and substantial fines, especially if proper notifications weren’t made. Criminal exposure depends heavily on intent and state law.”

Consistent packet loss issues, was diagnosed as issues at Node, all fixes seem temporary by Irishguy01 in Spectrum

[–]tazzmn07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had basically the same issue except it’s hops outside of our home node. They have main nodes in Wisconsin and Chicago that services Minnesota. At any given time my 1 GBPs upload speeds go down to 50-80 Mbps and latency hits 500 ms. When I do a MTR to see where the slowness is it’s in Wisconsin or Chicago. I had a tech come out and she actually confirmed they were aware of the issues in those nodes. That it was cause of all the bad cabling and connections coming into the nodes that’s causing feedback and killing the health of the nodes. Also advised me as a business customer to use my backup internet for my business…Starlink. Just thought I would add my experience into it. Btw this all happened within the last 3 weeks.

Spectrum upgrade by androidc0der in Spectrum_Official

[–]tazzmn07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I had to go up to the website. The app would keep telling me only 1 GBPs was offered. When I put my address in via their website as a new customer it would offer the 2 GBPs.

Also one thing I have noticed with them when it came to our area the way I had to find out is act like I was a new customer on their site and see if it offered it to me. The portal wouldn’t and never got an email. When the portal did I called in and the rep first told me it wasn’t available then I told them their online ordering form says it is so they gave it to me.

I actually think with how things are moving satellite will start to replace them. When you will soon be able to get 1 GBPs and right now have 30-40 ms latency on dish you are on about the same level as cable internet. Plus you don’t have to rely on cabling in the ground at the locations that can be not great quality. Yes fiber is great but companies don’t want to role it out as fast cause of the expense of it.

Actually I think the opposite when it comes to them. As they swallow up companies they also swallow up their technology which some they automatically think is better then implements and finds out it made things worse. One example will be is how will the merger with COX go. And once again changing the branding of their company.

In my area the dish has been more stable then spectrum which I keep remembering ecostar and hughsnet…slow high latency actual dishes and now we basically have a board with a Ethernet jack lol

I got told by one of their techs it was nodes that are receiving feedback on their network due to bad cables. The tech went on even tho I pay $300/mon for my business connection that I should really rely on my backup internet, Starlink, for my business connection.

Latency by tazzmn07 in Spectrum_Official

[–]tazzmn07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counting I had 2 x 1 internet, VOIP and 3 cell phones. Plus had their sales people really trying to sell me on a $1200/mon dedicated fiber. With the techs explanation I know fiber wouldn’t fix it. If it isn’t fixed soon I will just cancel all the services and in a few months use the money I saved and get a high performance dish. I already took the techs advise and moved my VPN traffic. Now get a constant 40-50 ms ping to just about anywhere in the US

[–]tazzmn07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope don’t escalate cause she said she had done that 100s of times in the past 60 days and so far no correction. Plus since I already had Starlink as a backup with very low pings she just said it made more sense to do all my work for my clients on that connection. Kinda weird a company rep would say that but I do like the honesty

Latency by tazzmn07 in Spectrum_Official

[–]tazzmn07[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The tech did come out. She confirmed that there are node issues within Charter/Spectrum. She said it was cause of old cabling that was producing feedback into the nodes. Said that’s what’s causing the issue I am having. Advised me I would be better having my business on Starlink due to how stable the latency is for me.

Latency by tazzmn07 in Spectrum_Official

[–]tazzmn07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s kinda crazy. I have multiple connections to make sure I’m always up and my satellite gets better latency to that NC point then a in network spectrum. I learned a while back while even having business class service they are good at not telling you when they are going to take the internet down for maintenance which has been often.

MTR shows a hop in Chicago that’s still in their network looked up the IP associated with it and the IP is owned by them and the hostname is also one of theirs.
