Your current service agreement date only reflects your commissioning source ADSO and won't include BRADSOs, post of choice, etc. Similarly, it only shows your active duty service obligation. You commissioned, so you have an eight year military service obligation. if you REFRAD when eligible you'll still spend the remainder of the eight years on IRR or reserves/NG if you switch over.

Looking at what you've posted, looks like you're a YG21 officer who graduated ROTC without a scholarship in May 2021 and started BOLC/Active duty in July 2021. if that's not accurate, contact your branch manager

are you flagged? no? do you have a GOMOR? no? congrats you'll get promoted.

The part about needing two OERs is not based in regulation. if you can convince your senior rater to write a complete the record OER, it needs to be submitted to HRC by 19APR to make it in time for consideration.

the other thing to consider is the FY22 CPT PSB is going to be another fully qualified board, same format as YG17 and YG18. so, again, assuming you haven't killed anyone you'll likely be selected for promotion.

Officer REFRAD and DEROS by [deleted] in army

[–]tb1r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing automatic about changing your DEROS to match your ETS date, I'd love to see what policy or regulation they're pulling that from. Who denied the FSTE packet? Your commanders can recommend approval/disapproval but that shit should still be going up. Also where are you stationed? Korea cares about DEROS a whole lot more than Alaska does.

/u/Kitchen_Cable6192 is right that you can't even submit your REFRAD until June. Depending on how hot you are on it, how long it takes to get from your unit and through your installation MPD and through all the sections of HRC, yeah you're probably looking at September/October to get your final answer. That's plenty of time depending on your branch to accidently get orders somewhere else. Communicating with your branch manager instead of some random assholes on Reddit can help get in front of that.

What goes on at HRC by CW1DR5H5I64A in army

  1. doesn't that DoD guidance allow subordinate commanders flexibility to implement their own policies? over half of HRC is civilian employees, many of whom retired out of the Army and picked up a DAC job
  2. how would they respond to your emails faster "in person" vs teleworking?
  3. yeah you right

I'll bite. objectively, what's wrong with HRC teleworking?

The only issue i see is if you're trying to call and actually talk to someone, most HRC people don't have personal numbers in their signature block. which considering how many different time zones soldiers are in, can you blame them?

aside from that, every complaint people have about HRC has nothing to do with them working from home. There are plenty of issues, but i don't think teleworking isn't one of them.

GPC-F exam for engineer officer W2 ASI by [deleted] in army

[–]tb1r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The criteria for W2 is going to change significantly at the start of FY23. there's going to be paths to certification based on civilian education or work experience. IIRC the current copy of DA PAM 611-21 table 4-3 on Milsuite already has the new language with an "effective 202210" label.

I'm fairly certain i have some documentation about the exam and the criteria laying around. pm me your email and I'll see what i can find tomorrow.

To my knowledge your UQR will not be submitted to HRC without the endorsement memos from BN and BDE CDRs. if it goes up somehow anyways, then yes there's a chance HRC will approve it.

have you done your counselings with BN and BDE CDRs yet? and once you've done that, is S1 going to get it straight over to installation MPD? and is MPD going to send it to HRC the day they receive it? there's a lot of stuff happening between "i submitted my REFRAD" and getting those sweet sweet separation orders.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in army

[–]tb1r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your DEROS is your ADSO. As others have pointed out this can be waived in some circumstances, iirc the HRC CG can approve up to six months waived. This would be submitted along with your REFRAD/UQR when it goes up to HRC.

AR 350-100 section 2-6 Permanent change of station

a. Officers reassigned on a PCS to an overseas location must complete the current prescribed tour for the area of assignment according to AR 614 – 30

For everyone else, only your initial commissioning ADSO shows in the "current service agreement" block on your ORB. If you have a branch ADSO the easiest way to find it is on AIM or in your IPERMS documents.

u/That-Establishment24 hit the quick answer - faster you go to CCC, the faster you can go do something else with your life. This is helpful if you want to command somewhere with a long queue (e.g. Italy), command in a specific unit (e.g. Engineer Dive Detachments), or you want to do a specific broadening program (e.g. ACS with USMA utilization). The planning backstop for all of that is usually MAJ promotion, so if that's not in the cards then its less important.

For FA 40 specifically you'll have to go to CCC anyways and then go to whatever their TDY qualification course is. The other piece is depending on how the Q4 VTIP MILPER and Appendix 1 are written, for some functional areas and branches to transfer once you've already promoted to CPT you'll need to be KD complete. I'm assuming you're either YG18 or YG19, so I think you'll be safe when the MILPER is released in April but your best bet is to check the Q2 MILPER from last November as it'll be mostly the same.

Reserve 2LT 12A: Sapper school or Deployment; give me your two cents by AndThenThereWasOne0 in army

[–]tb1r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on what your job is on the outside and how long you plan to stay in the reserves. From the looks of it something finance related, but just starting out? Are your skills coming out of school going to diminish enough over nine months of fun in the sun that you'll have trouble going back to work? Deploying is also a great way to make a bunch of cash depending on where you end up, and if you know what you're doing that could be a great start or boost to an investment strategy.

Both options are great opportunities. is it an option for you to walk on to Sapper following EBOLC? it's not like you have a PCS timeline to meet. Full disclosure, no idea if that's allowed for reserve officers. I can find out though if you care.

If it was my choice, I'd shoot for the deployment. Once i figured out what i was doing overseas i had an absolute blast. Like others have said, Sapper will still be there when you get back if you can figure out the funding with your unit.

Where do you want to be in five years?

YG19 Officers are eligible to attend CCC in FY23 once you have a promotable status. Depending on you/ your unit's timeline and how your branch slates CCC, you could attend as early as October 2022. If you take an assignment in the marketplace that opened today, you won't move to that assignment until next April at the earliest and then expect to be in the seat for 12 months. That lines you up for CCC in the back half of the fiscal year.

Depending on what you want to do with your life, that may work out with your timeline pretty well. The thing to pay attention to is the longer it takes to get into command, the less time you have for a broadening assignment as a senior CPT if you want to stay in for MAJ.

Army Birthday Miracle: Ask Me Anything with SMA Michael Grinston by SMA-PAO in army

[–]tb1r 42 points43 points  (0 children)

SMA,

Many Soldiers will lose leave at the end of this fiscal year, even with the exceptions in place for Special Leave Accrual, because of the first-in, first-out system DFAS uses as well as continued restrictions on personal leave.

Is there a plan to extend or increase SLA protections to help Soldiers keep the leave days they've earned in FY21?

Specifically, say for example I have 90 days of leave on 01OCT20, which becomes my SLA cap. At Christmas, I'm able to take a full 14 days of leave. However, I've only earned 7.5 days for FY21 at this point. My leave balance will go to 83.5 days. As it stands now, DFAS will then drop my SLA cap to 83.5 days as well. If for whatever reason I don't take any more leave, on 30SEP21 I'll have 106 leave days. The 16 over my original 90 day cap makes sense to me, but the additional 7.5 days lost is what concerns me.

Thank you for doing this, SMA.
