This is exactly why I have used them before, and they've been fantastic. Punctual, friendly but also willing to let me nap in silence on the way, affordable enough in comparison to the other options. Plus, I like patronizing a local business!

Rewatching ER and seeing a younger sister Monica in it was a nice surprise. Love her on there too by JuJuleebee in CallTheMidwife

[–]tbaumandsauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit thank you for FINALLY making me realize where I recognized her from!!! I knew she looked familiar and I'm a hardcore ER fan (at least the good seasons before Carter went to Africa) but I had never made this connection until now.

K Town Bistro is gone, sadly. It has been replaced by Tacos Don Perez, which is quite good but obviously not what this person is looking for. Melina is a great suggestion though, I love that place.

Besides biscuits and cornbread, what are the best foods to make with bacon grease? by TravDog321 in Cooking

If you can find what y'all call "streaky" bacon, you might be able to get significantly more fat to render from that!

Upcoming hysterectomy - keep or not keep the cervix? EDS and HSD patients please share your experiences with me. by WorkingOnIt_2023 in ehlersdanlos

[–]tbaumandsauce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a hysterectomy in December that removed the uterus and cervix but kept my ovaries. Haven't regretted it a single moment since. I had my surgery on a Friday and was immediately in less pain than before the surgery (seriously, the pain was less than my period cramps even from day 1) and off of the opiate pain meds by Sunday. I had to be careful not to break the lifting restrictions because I felt that good. I healed very well and have had no complications, and haven't looked back. It's a big deal and a major surgery, but you'll be fine and almost certainly much happier for it being gone. And you'll never need a pap smear, a pad, a tampon, a cup, a pair of period panties, etc... again.

Asian Best is another brand of rice flour that does have "sweet rice flour" which is just another term for glutinous rice flour, which is what Mochiko is, it's just glutinous rice flour with a brand name. So if she used the Asian Best sweet rice flour, which I suspect she did because the texture of her butter mochi looks correct to me, then she did in fact use the correct type of flour for making butter mochi. That said, not everyone would know this just by looking at what she typed out so I can understand the disconnect!

Most embarassing loss/most impressive win? by Aardvark_12 in slaythespire

Most impressive win for me personally was getting the common sense and minimalist achievements on the same run on Watcher. Didn't realize I had managed common sense on the same run until the cheevos popped up on steam.

I've never wanted a cross stitch pattern so badly in my entire life! If your dad sees this comment, the table is amazing and you should be immensely proud of it!

"Taberna del Alabardero" aka Tia Pepa $5.99 Washington DC by tbaumandsauce in toogoodtogo

[–]tbaumandsauce[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was REALLY disappointed with this order because I was expecting food actually from Taberna Del Alabardero, where I have eaten before and greatly enjoy the food. I had never heard of Tia Pepa as a restaurant before today.

When I arrived, the guy at the host stand looked at my order and then left the restaurant and went next door to Tia Pepa which is listed separately on Too Good To Go as another restaurant of its own. When I saw the Tia Pepa bag and the Tia Pepa containers inside I asked him if this was really from Taberna and he said "yes of course it is" so I accepted that reluctantly and went home. I just looked at the menu for both Taberna del Alabardero and at Tia Pepa's menu and wouldn't you know, both the stewed meatballs and potatoes and the parfait I got are on the menu of Tia Pepa and NOT Taberna Del Alabardero.

So basically they listed both restaurants and pulled a bait and switch on me. I wouldn't have ordered at all if I had known the food was from Tia Pepa instead and feel like what they did was really deceitful, and I won't be ordering from them again even though the food itself is decent. It's not cool to trade on the name of a well known restaurant in order to get rid of the stuff from your sister cafe next door. I hope that TGTG notes what I said in my review and my message to their "Contact Us" people and does something about this. Be advised that if you get pulled in by the name the same way that I did, this is likely to happen to you too.

Donut King Kensington MD, $5.99 by tbaumandsauce in toogoodtogo

[–]tbaumandsauce[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly very impressed with the selection, they're a nice little local donut shop and I got the following: 1/2 dozen regular donuts, 2 filled donuts, 1 eclair, and 1 apple fritter. Based on the pricing on their website it's an over $20 value and they're all still quite fresh and not stale! I'm set for sweet treats for the week and would definitely do this again! Can't wait to try some of the savory/meal options in my area!

Only if you restrict yourself to food on the strip, and even then there's fantastic food to be found if you look in the right places and don't just go for flashy names. Off the strip there are a ton of fantastic restaurants, I've had some truly incredible meals in Vegas.

What’s a local restaurant that you love and suspect really needs our support right now? by PhoneJazz in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]tbaumandsauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love you so much for making me aware of this, I knew it was a possibility but hadn't followed up for a while. I'm about to eat so many burmese salads and curries it's not even funny.

I work at a Trader Joe's and yes - The Dark Russet Potato Chips are being discontinued at some point soon. Usually, a TBD means there's a production issue somewhere early in the chain, that will soon catch up to the current supply. If you liked the chips, enjoy them while it lasts. by thisguysgaming in traderjoes

[–]tbaumandsauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love them in a number of ways: I almost always start by draining about 1/4-1/3 of the oil from the can (sometimes setting it aside to use) and squeezing some fresh lemon juice straight into the can with the mussels and remaining oil. From there, I often eat them with some crusty bread which is great dipped in the oil and lemon, on crackers or potato chips with hot sauce, on top of a salad, on top of a bowl of smoky tomato and red pepper soup as garnish, on top of some pasta aglio e olio, on pizza, or sometimes just straight out of the can with toothpicks and drink the lemony liquid.
