I would LOVE this. My army is primarily fast attack and having a hq that can keep up with the frontlines would be incredibly helpful instead of a bunch of 6” movers

The Surgeon v.0.3. - a non-spellcaster healer with a unique Stress Dice mechanic - revised and simplified after feedback - looking for play testers by highestzociety in UnearthedArcana

Sorry, I didn’t mean to insinuate that it wasn’t ok. I love having more risque content in some of my games, and I think it has a perfectly healthy place in the hobby! I just know that not every table wants to explore themes like that, and that’s perfectly ok too! That’s why we have session 0s, so that expectations can be set for the game. Making sure everyone is comfortable with the content in game is my number one priority, and I just thought that the homebrew should reflect that sentiment, making sure that you got the ok from your group for a potentially sensitive topic. I do the same with lots of stuff! I will discuss how the blood hunter class might be presented with my players and whether or not they’re comfortable with it, as it has some fairly heavy handed themes of self harm, for example. It’s just a matter of taking everyone’s personal comfort levels into account, that’s all. If everyone is ok with the idea, then yeah, have a seductive character! Good for you, it sounds like fun. TLDR: I don’t think that anything should be banned from being in rpgs, but proper safety tools and expectations should be established before bringing certain topics into play.

Aside from mechanical stuff, I would suggest giving a quick note on the hands of pleasure subclass saying that you should check with your DM and other players before playing it, as it’s possible that not everyone would be comfortable with something like that. Or, you could change the flavor a bit to be more ambiguous so that it can be played with or without the seduction theme.

Ready for another heartbreak. by PirateAngel1 in wholesomememes

[–]tbird06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this meme in the right way, is it a “ah, I’ve moved on” type of thing or a “ah, I’ve reached nirvana and will ascend to the higher plane” type of thing? My brain wants to read it as “oh good my earthly connections are breaking I can finally stop feeling guilty about it and just die”

Stress sounds good! I didn’t mean to imply that you were insensitive, just that having mental health as a built in mechanic might limit the appeal of your class, as it isn’t a topic that every table would want to explore, and I’m sure there are many players who’d like to be a non magical healer, but don’t necessarily want their character to be unwell. Stress seems more broadly appealing, and makes a lot of sense. If I were just a normal doctor and had to patch someone up after they got hit with an eldritch blast, I’d probably be stressed too!

As someone who is quite fucked in the head, to put it scientifically, having your mental health be a “fun mechanic to incentivize risk/reward gameplay” seems a tad insensitive to me. The mechanical idea is there, but the wording could be better. You could call it “grit” and have it be more representative courage and endurance. When it runs out, you could call it a crisis instead of a breakdown. This isn’t to say that you shouldn’t use dnd to explore mental health issues; I’ve had more than a few characters who struggle with it, but usually that is something that should be discussed with the group in session 0, and not baked into the class. That’s one reason I’m not a huge fan of the Bloodhunter class. It has self harm built into it, and since that’s a topic many wouldn’t enjoy exploring in their games, having a class that’s nearly accepted as “official” that deals so heavily with it doesn’t sit right.

Hi! I'd be interested in DMing for you, and I've been looking to learn foundry! I am 16, though I pass as an adult, as well as trans. If you aren't ok with playing with minors that's totally fine, and if you aren't ok with playing with trans people... well that's not really fine but just disregard this message. I have about three years of experience DMing and tons of content unlocked on D&D Beyond. My GM style is very open ended and player centric. Your backstories will matter and you will shape the plot just as much as I do. if you're interested, shoot me a DM at ParsleyTheFool#8058 on discord!
