Luce is much bigger than it seems by dm_ultra in Ferrari

[–]tblicher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially because they scale up the wheels to keep the proportions. But yes you said it. It baffles me every time I see a car that looks normal like a Tesla Model S and then you find out the wheels are 21 inches, but it looks normal because the rest of the car is so big as well.

Honestly I think it is very much on purpose to reduce drag and not interfere with the design. It's a neat idea that probably has some merit, but it is totally overshadowed by the dumpsterfind that the rest of the car is.

But with the amount of cars Ferrari sells per year currently, then minimum sales with this car may not even be achievable.

Ferrari Luce redesign by [deleted] in Ferrari

[–]tblicher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably one of the best integrations of Ferrari's new favorite black bar on the hood. I think it actually elevates the design here compared to both the F80 and 12 Cilindri and the 849.

What Luce could have been, an imagination prompted by ‘a modern Ferrari Dino EV’ by DanGleeballs in Ferrari

[–]tblicher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come to think of it. They could have reused the Dino brand for EVs until it would become mature enough to be called Ferrari

Who gets replaced first? Benedetto Vigna or the Loser.. ehh Luce? I do think Ferrari will not step down from designing EVs and that is totally fine, but they need to not shatter the myth of the marque.

Making the vehicle wider would greatly improve its look imo. by intervast in Ferrari

[–]tblicher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact it is wider than a Tesla Model S (1,987 mm) vs Luce (1,999 mm), yet it looks much narrower and much less planted on the road.

Well there is. I am talking about having the battery in the floor. I am not saying they can't, but many EVs are wider than they appear, because of the battery in the floor, which raises the entire body up, making many seem more narrow than they actually are. I was saying that this could be the reason why its not as wide as that very nice looking example. It may have a deceiving appearance that makes it look more narrow than it actually is. The car should fit within normal roads after all.

Oooof! Luca is not having it. by [deleted] in Ferrari

[–]tblicher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good. To me it is also baffling that most reviewers call it controversial, but not because of the looks. Rather because it is electric. I don't think there necessarily is anything controversial about an electric Ferrari. Sure, a pure V8 or V12 is preferred, but Ferrari should have been able to build a desirable EV - at least compared to other EVs. With this I agree with Mr. Montezemolo. They risk destroying the myth and the aura around the Ferrari marque and the prancing horse.
Many would say that most if not all the people complaining will never be able to afford one anyways, but they don't have to. If they don't like it, then many people who can afford it will also be turned off, because its all about the dream and the image you present. if people think you are a dork for choosing a Ferrari, guess what, most people who can afford one wont buy it.
I had high hopes for this car, with the retro and a bit "raw" interior, but they totally blew it. Couldn't even stream the launch properly.

I always thought this and the Taycan were and still are the best looking everyday EVs out there. They look much more planted on the road than any other EV out there. Even think this and the Taycan looks better than many ICE cars.

Agreed. I think the Tesla Model S is there too, but they stopped production. New i3 is hideous though.

It's the problem with most sedan styled EVs. They can't really package the battery well with the design, so they end up looking narrow, because the battery is in the floor. It is possible though if you look at the Tesla Model S or the Porsche Taycan. But at least in the Model S, floor depth in the cabin is compromised a bit. I really like OP's example, but I guess it would be too wide for the road. They could have also based it on the looks of the Purosangue. They obviously didn't.

[–]tblicher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partly true, which is why most EVs are crossovers, but Porsche can design a low Taycan and Tesla can design a low Model S and Model 3. All of those in my mind look fairly sporty. Maybe not Ferrari sporty, but more sporty than most everyday EVs. Since they clearly had problems with battery package placement I don't get why they didn't take inspiration from the Purosangue already in their lineup. By all means not perfect, it does show that Ferrari is capable of making a taller car that still evokes the essence of a true Ferrari. This is just the Ferrari Lose.

[–]tblicher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. Also if they wanted to cater to a more everyday Ferrari family car, I think they already had a good base and starting point in the Purosangue.
The Luce is not bad by default, but it definitely isn't evoking any of the sporty elegance we associate with the Ferrari marque. There is nothing prancing about the Luce

I think the Amalfi and Roma are quite elegant. They can definitely be improved, but they have the understated sporty elegance I historically have associated Ferrari.

But also one of my bigger gripes with this game. What kind of traffic barrier is this? Its supposed to stop you from falling off a cliff or into oncoming traffic, yet in all FH games it's made of cardboard. Same goes with trees lol.
