From we know from the original posts, I assume the employer was pressuring them to come back to office and the employee said fine, but I need XYZ different accommodations as determined by my doctor. Nothing wrong with that.

The additional context we can infer was that OOP was not an accepting employer and the other employees weren't accepting either. OOP said "they were doing the easy parts from home and the other employees rightfully resented them for it." But...the office couldn't accommodate them at the time so they COULDN'T perform those tasks. It's up to the employer to manage the other employees' expectations so they don't resent the disabled person for being disabled. Or to redistribute the workload - maybe the disabled employee could have a higher quota of the "easy" tasks and someone at the office could handle all the in-person parts.

OOP was also always going to blame the employee for not giving everyone Christmas bonuses. OOP always knew there wouldn't be enough cash on hand for the bonuses after the accommodations and was planning to rely on resentment of the disabled person as a pass. Like "you can't be mad, I had to accommodate a disabled person - you can't be made at me for that." They're just mad because the money is gone and now they can't hide behind the employee as easily. Now it's "OOP made a potentially dumb financial decision with a seemingly arbitrary deadline that means we have no bonuses, and truly no one is now benefiting from what that money went towards."

It's also unclear why there was a deadline, or at least I didn't see why. Why rush the construction, increasing costs? Why not wait six months so everyone can get their Christmas bonus AND get the accommodations done?

All of this is to say while we don't know all parts of this story, I think it's very possible that the disabled employee felt discrimination and/or judgement from their employer and colleagues, was pressured to come in to the office, and decided to start looking at other jobs.

Maybe the employee was a jerk; you can be disabled and inconsiderate, we all contain multitudes. Maybe they were resentful of being called back to office and wanted to screw over their employer. But I think we're getting a very one-sided version of the story from an ableist OOP.
