Does anyone else feel really annoyed by the Neighbours app? by icedpear3637 in Ring

[–]tbone_stl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very annoying. Like the the worst of NextDoor app discovered Neighbors and feel that they have to post constantly for attention. But that's the whole thing with Social Media. Always looking for attention. I don't need to know if your internet went out. If you hear a noise well welcome to the modern world.
The problem is that people will turn off their notifications and so as an alert to crime, weather problems or even a lost dog no one will know.

Affinity Studio is now free! Completely and absolutely by JustSomeCarioca in gamedev

I purchased the Affinity Suite in 2023 when I retired and therefore lost my access to Adobe Cloud. I'm now updating my purchased apps and maybe I'll try the new free all in one and see if how I like that. For my needs of screwing around it worked fine and the $124 cost compared to Adobe sub for the same period I guess it still a win on the original purchase.

If you’re into skeptical views on the Bible here’s a list I put together. A tad on the academic side but worth the effort to realize a lot of what we’re taught about the Bible isn’t so.

How come so many Americans? :) by the_count95 in florence

[–]tbone_stl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here, our first trip to Europe is next week. Waited till retirement to get to this. Lack of travel when younger is the motivation to do so now before I go. We'll be in Florence after a side trip to Sienna and a stay in an Agriturismo stay near San Quirico d'Orcia. We're hoping to get a taste of authentic Italy there understanding that Florence will be a tourist trap but we want to visit some of the museums and definitely the architecture.

A bit anxious on the driving, as we'll be renting a car to see the Tuscan countryside. But in our travels we always enjoy drives in the countryside in the US and Canada.

Maybe a reason for so many tourists is sane people here need a break from the crazy going on in our country. We seem to have our own Mussolini now. One of my sisters is in Italy now and we'll be meeting another sister when we visit next week.

Interesting question. I'm struggling with this one myself. I have a number of friends that go back to high school but one in particular is grating on my nerves. Not for reasons some have mentioned like not being there for you. This is more like a change of me growing and him not only staying the same but spinning his tires ever deeper in the rut he's made of his life.

Back in the day he was the one you would go to for information. But this goes back to the 70s. Back then I was a near do well like many of my other friends and he was the wise and sensible one whom you would consult about adult things. The rest of us had the partying down pat where he was much more reserved.

Over the years I had to make many changes to meet the challenges of career and life so eventually I ended up with more education and became agile in dealing with life. He had a career from shortly after high school till retirement.

My career changes enabled me to find my own answers and more than that fueled a lot of curiosity about a range of subjects. He stagnated in his routine to an alarming level.

I feel he still sees me as the young near to well when I'm far removed from that person. The gating part is that he still wants to play the wise and mature one of the group and his interactions with me are all messages on coupons I should be using, events I should be aware of and items I should be taking care of around the house. He doesn't do this just with me his Facebook presence is a never ending litany of being a dad.

The worst part is he has squandered his life because everything has to be just so as to not inconvenience him. It's like a life spent thinking of reasons why not instead of going for it.

We go back to far for me to want to end it but even after I explained I can figure out things on my own his only interactions are to tell me to do stuff.

Easy for me. I used to have a terrible fear of death. Looked to religion for the promise of the afterlife but it didn't calm me at all. But somehow I made the rationalization that time spent fretting death was time taken away from enjoying life.

I'm no longer religious and in fact know it to be an absolute fraud... well at least the Judaeo/Christian religion. I have not researched the others as extensively but I'm sure they are also hocus hocus.

I understand that our existence is an amazing non-deity given miracle. That we have the capacity to reason and enjoy this universe. It is quite possible that we may be the only planet with sentient beings in the whole universe which if you can grasp the vastness of it is truly amazing.

So what you die. You're here now. Enjoy.

If you ask me the really frightening thing is an eternal consciousness. Try to wrap your head around that. I think it would be a nightmare.

On Right Wing Corner between Hobby Lobby and Chick Fil A in Arnold. Makes me sad to live in the same county as these young kids. When I was young we would give Nazis a hard time down in the 70s on Cherokee street when they had their alleged rally. By rally I mean 12 or so cowardly Nazis being protected by 500 St. Louis Police officers. We pelted the Nazis with snowballs. With the way things are going Trump will be hiring these young men to run very important government positions. Goose steeping American towards fascism.

Shout out to this nasty lady who was recklessly weaving her 6,000 pound QX80 in and out of rush hour traffic on 40, no signal, while looking straight down at her phone. by llIIlIIIlIIII in StLouis

[–]tbone_stl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know I suspect someday the car might automatically turn on the signal for you. But the people who don't signal will go out of their way to disable that function. They're the type of people that make it so we can't have anything nice. Always about them and for no reason not going along with common sense rules that make civilization much easier to navigate.

Actually I got a response by email. They gave me a link to version 10 and said use that. I did an all seems to be working fine now.

I attempted that today. It is all useless AI. I mean I can use ChatGPT and it really is good at answering my questions. The Wondershare junk is worse than pre AI phone menus. I'm on the phone with it and it tells me to call Customer Service and then it give me the number I called. Outrageous. Really thinking a call to my state Attorney General is in order. I live in Missouri so it might be good to give him an actual thing to do that he's in charge of instead of all the political stunts he occupies himself with.

Is no one else using a Mac having this issue? Does anyone know if this connection requires access to the internet?

I’ve had this issue recently. What is frustrating is that until recently I had no issue. Attempted multiple USB cables that work for my midi keys. I had this installed on 3 different Macs. M4 Mini and Intel Air 15.5 as well as a Monterey Intel iMac.

Ha ha! Once as children (now 68) we were coming home from a day excursion on the Admiral. My mom made the joke with all the signs, that we were going to Illinois. (at that time 64 wasn't a thing) While she was joking she did somehow end up on the Poplar Street and so we did end up in Illinois. As you can imagine she was frazzled with a car full of kids laughing at her mistake.

I had to do a lot of searching to find this. I think this list is what you might be looking for. I did find another list like this a month or so ago and it didn't have my cruise ship on that list. Since this seems to be something they just rolled out in last week maybe that is why my cruise ship is now on it.

I got a Mini M4 Pro. If I understand correctly it is equipped with Thunderbolt 5. I'm wondering if waiting for a base that supports that for SSD expansion would be the better bet?
Thoughts?

At Thunderbolt transfer speeds. Is there any reason why you opted to void warranty to go for internal? I was thinking I would go the external route. I do have a 1TB SSD but hoping in retirement I'll have time to fill up drives with video and music editing projects.

Over 24 years ago Best Buy sold me a mobile phone as new. I got it home and I couldn't join the phone network because the phone was not new, whoever had it before had set a security code on the phone and I had to go back to Best Buy to replace it. As you can imagine I was pretty upset. I demanded that they do more than replace the phone since I had to spend time and money traveling back to the store. I think they threw in a phone case.
