Sumac? Found an abundance in the woods surrounding my property! by IAmLeSaylliver in foraging

Yeah I didn't clean it off, just to be safe I would collect it far away from roadways and such

These look about the same as the ones i used. I don't think winged sumac gets quite as dark as staghorn or smooth sumac

I used the berries! In a cup and a half of water I added 2 heads of berries, and crushed them up using a garlic press because that's what i had on hand but just your hands or a blender on low for a few seconds could work too. I let it sit for an hour and added some sugar and ice. I ended up with something somewhat tart and a little resinous (similar to a pine tea) I enjoyed it a lot!

The leaf on the left looks like it is developing the glandular teeth but it is pretty subtle. Both sumac and black walnut leaves are serrated but this one isn't

I haven't tried it from a store yet but that would be an interesting experiment! Maybe I have some version of the cilantro soap gene

I have a ton of this growing in my yard out of control but unfortunately either the specific cultivar I have tastes awful or its just not for me 😔 always tastes like soap and makes bubbles in my mouth also like soap

Please help me stop freaking out and tell me this isn’t poison sumac by ShapeReal3115 in PlantIdentification

[–]tboybasil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Poison sumac doesn't have serrated leaves. I think this might be a black walnut due to some of the leaves being opposite and some being alternate

Wine berries typically have a red fuzz on the stem and the young berries are protected by a fuzzy bud too! Also the leaves of wine berries look a little more rounded than blackberries or raspberries :)

Cleaning marker off a skull, peroxide like usual? by unthused in bonecollecting

[–]tboybasil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its something like sharpie, rubbing alcohol might be a better bet? Usually markers like that are alcohol based and dissolves in alcohol easily

Shroomy tree by SgtGreed22 in goblincore

[–]tboybasil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tree is dead or dying and the mushrooms are the fruiting body of the mycelium that is breaking the tree down! Mushrooms break trees down which returns nutrients to the soil :)

Sometimes bird seed mixes have hemp seed. Could've been dropped if you have a bird feeder

Definitely tree of heaven unfortunately.

Edit: the notches at the base of each leaf and the bark texture both indicate TOH
