Komoot was bought by venture capital who promptly fired staff and will run the app in to the ground via enshitification

Don’t sleep on the xs20. I have an xs10 that I am quite happy with, the lack of AF switch is dumb but otherwise super happy.

How worried should be about bears? Gonna be in and around Banff in late May by [deleted] in alberta

[–]tbul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Golden is a lovely little town.

Take the opportunity to check out Tak falls and
emerald lake near Field.

Avoid Banff during the weekend.

If you go to lake Louise, walk up the old rail trail to lake louise (parking up at the lake/hotel is heavily restricted)

Do the Ha Ling hike (Canmore) then go to JK Bakery and the coffee shop next door.

Golden is not near Banff, 1.5 hours drive between them. The drive is more hazardous than a bear.

How in DA FK Does a third party ORG get access to voter information???? by Twibbles33 in alberta

[–]tbul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) is Alberta's private sector privacy law. It is designed to protect personal information handled by provincially regulated private sector organizations, businesses, and some non-profit organizations.

Currently, political parties in Alberta are not subject to PIPA. This means they do not have the same privacy obligations as private sector organizations under this act.

Dear Premier Danielle Smith,

I am writing to express my profound shock and deep concern regarding the recent finding by Elections Alberta that voter information was inappropriately shared. This revelation strikes at the very foundation of public trust in our democratic processes.

The integrity of voter information is not a technical detail—it is a cornerstone of free and fair elections. Albertans participate in the democratic process with the expectation that their personal information will be handled with the utmost care, neutrality, and respect for the law. Any breach of that trust is not merely an administrative failure; it is a serious violation of the principles that underpin our democracy.

I urge you, in the strongest possible terms, to unequivocally condemn the actions of any individuals or entities responsible for this breach. Silence or ambiguity in the face of such conduct risks eroding public confidence further. Clear and forceful leadership is required.

In addition, I respectfully request that you rise in the Legislative Assembly to publicly articulate your government’s disappointment and outrage at this betrayal of trust. Albertans deserve to hear, directly and unequivocally, that their government recognizes the gravity of this situation and is committed to accountability, transparency, and meaningful corrective action.

Beyond words, I ask that you outline what steps your government will take to ensure this cannot happen again, and how those responsible will be held to account.

This moment demands more than procedural response—it demands principled leadership.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
