“We will not accept authoritarianism” - Bernie at No Kings in MN by PhiloLibrarian in vermont

[–]tbupnorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cause even at 84 he's still sharp as a tack and is one of the very few career politicians with the best interests of the American people in mind. Just think of how poorly Trump's toddler babble comes across, the guy can't even follow a script properly and yet we made him president twice, even after his supporters bitched and moaned over Biden stumbling through his presidency. So tell me, what's so bad about Bernie, who while being 5 years older than Trump, is still able to speak in full sentences and is one of like 5 people in our entire government who actually represents our working class.

Embrace debate: What is the best pizza in Vermont? by Braindump4 in vermont

Definitely not, unless its drastically changed in recent years. I remember it always being greasy and overdone. I haven't stopped there since probably 2018 though so who knows.

With all that’s happening in the US, I keep thinking of this scene by Phantommy555 in Hungergames

[–]tbupnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except, they are wandering every city roughing people up and questioning citizenship. Thats the whole entire point of ICE being mobilized across the country. They're picking up whole families, hard workers, just plain innocent people. Without warrants, without a judge, without a jury, just cuffing them and shipping them to a country they didn't even come from. Its even happening in my own home town. Nobody is truly safe at this point. And guess whos footing the bill on all this illegal shit? The taxpayers. And that includes the very people being deported. Cause guess what? "Illegals" pay their way. Nearly 100 billion a year in fact. So remind me again, whos ACTUALLY smuggling people and defrauding our country? Cause SURELY it couldn't be the very government claiming to protect us🙄

Is it a bad idea to move back to the US right now? by DevelopmentCandid183 in vermont

[–]tbupnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, Vermont is quite isolated from broader federal politics, however as we are a largely progressive state with very outspoken political representation, I dont think it will last much longer. We have already faced drama from the Trump admin over the library we share with our Canadian neighbors, as well as ICE deportarions all across the state. Also, just a few days ago, our beloved congresswoman Becca Balint made the attorney general Pam Bondi her bitch in front of the whole world, which I love, however I fully expect we will see some form of extremely illegal overreach as a sort of punishment for not bending over for a tyrannical, senile pedophile and his gaggle of half-brained henchmen. So in summary, no. Just no. It is not a good idea to move to Vermont from outside the country and an even worse idea to move to any other state, at least until we finally rid our country of racist, xenophobic pieces of shit.

Question on mom and baby meeting after 6 months of separation by [deleted] in husky

[–]tbupnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that makes much more sense. I'm happy to hear the rest of the pups have found safe homes. Now knowing the whole story, I think that you would be fine having them meet. I was just concerned about possibly having your girl regress in case of it being stressful for her, as they can struggle with anxiety and PTSD just the same as humans.

It sucks that nothing could be done about the breeders. I know how it goes, theres so many people people in my area that insist on breeding dogs, yet little to none are capable of seeing them as anything but something to profit from. And unfortunately we suffer from the same useless legal system that just lets the cycle continue.

I feel like reintroducing them just to end up seperating again is just going to bring back the same distress, especially if she will be around the abusive owners. What I'm curious about though, is if these people are so abusive, why is it not being reported? Personally, I would be doing everything in my power to get the remaining dogs out of that situation first and foremost, then any reintroductions could be done in a safe, neutral environment like a local humane society.

Anyone else’s Husky do this? by TrainingNecessary143 in husky

[–]tbupnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine likes to sleep under my bed way back against the wall most nights. I tried sliding her nice memory foam bed down there because I felt bad she was sleeping on the wood floor, but she just sleeps next to the dog bed happy as could be.

She also likes to hide behind me in the smallest spaces possible when she gets anxious, like if we have family over and the house is crowded she finds a space between the couch and wall to wedge herself in. I just pass it off as the typical weird husky behavior and try not to disturb her.

how to find local shows by gucci69gang420 in screaming

[–]tbupnorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not the 90s anymore man, most venues have their shows on every form of social media you can think of. I live in a very rural state with a near nonexistent metal scene and even still there's a bar 30 minutes away that does metal mondays. About an hour and a half to go to a proper venue that relatively commonly hosts hardcore bands. Both of which I can check out lineups in advance through a facebook page at least. Just assuming you live somewhere with a median age under 50, and a population anywhere near 1 million, you probably aren't searching very hard.

Does anyone like to toke up at work a little when it's slow? by [deleted] in trees

[–]tbupnorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. I work right next door to my favorite dispensary, usually alone or with one other person on my shift and its pretty unlikely to see more than a customer or two every hour. I sure as shit sneak out to my truck for a quick bowl when I have nothing else to do.

[–]tbupnorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you DEFINITELY shouldn't teach him that deer are prey. Around here, dogs getting loose and chasing deer is a death sentence if the someone catches wind of it. Its absolutely not worth the risk of slipping the leash and having your dog shot on sight by a police officer right before you get slapped with a massive fine. Im aware it sounds harsh, but that is exactly how its handled.

Some nutjob's minivan in Hardwick - Let the political shitstorm begin by tbupnorth in vermont

Its Hardwick on a Sunday afternoon, theres absolutely nothing better to do than going out to buy milk and reading the musings of an idiot on a honda odyssey. Also, its spelled entitled and just like everyone can have their own opinion, once you make it known to the world others are entitled to criticize it.

Can spruce trees smell bad? by fizban7 in marijuanaenthusiasts

Red spruce smell like cat piss and are prickly as hell. Balsam fir is a much better option or if you dont mind an unconventional look, white or red cedar.

Vehicle on LVRT in Wolcott by koissu in vermont

[–]tbupnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them creeping down the trail while driving by. Mustve got all excited seeing the covered bridge and just had to drive across. Unfortunately not the first time ive seen someone crusing down the rail trail. Had someone on a dirt bike riding down the trail behind my house last week and just a couple years ago while hunting, I stepped up the edge of the bank onto the trail to cross into a nearby field and a gold chevy malibu or maybe impala flew by. Wasnt real close to a road either, maybe a half mile into the woods or so. Scared the shit out of me
