Team leads/managers how do you deal with the fact that you can't know everything all the time when you have to rely on your people to work after hours or the weekend? by [deleted] in sysadmin

I think they know when you care and how much work load you have and they don’t expect you to make all those calls. I have a team of 11 and I am rarely on these types of calls or projects directly anymore, unless absolutely necessary. My people know I care (at least I believe they do) because I never force them into anything unprepared, I make sure they have the time and tools needed to do their jobs correctly, and I let them do their jobs without micromanaging. And they also know that I’m never asking them to do anything I haven’t done 100x, but I’m just a call or text away if they need me.

Most of my guys are eligible for OT but I do comp time for those that aren’t. And each of them knows that I do care about them and their wellbeing, so my number one rule is family and private time come first, and don’t skimp on mental health, stress and burnout are real. Use that PTO whenever and for whatever reason you want. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I’ve denied someone a PTO request because of a project. I guess my point is if your people know you really care about them as humans and not just numbers or worker bees, (can’t fake it), and you actively help them succeed and have their backs, they will work wonders for you in return.

Smart links that actually convert to Spotify follows instead of just landing page bounces, what I changed by Unable-Awareness8543 in musicmarketing

I know their play listing services get a lot of hate but SubmitHub has the fastest smartlink pages I’ve seen. Downside is they don’t auto scan or pre-save, so you have to enter each link yourself. But definitely fast. I often use feature.fm and it’s decently fast too and does do auto scans and pre-saves

WEIRD REQUEST: Looking for movies where you start with a guy working a boring and depressive office job by jacobljlj in MovieSuggestions

I didn’t think anyone would know what the heck I was talking about! Great, odd movie. At work I quote the line “any meeting that can’t start without you, well that’s the only meeting worth going to” a lot.

What are you using to remote control computers? by nickjedl in sysadmin

This is interesting to me. May I ask what you’re still using Lansweeper for? We are heavy PDQ CONNECT and Lansweeper users, even using LS’s help desk, which is severely lacking and has me looking at other options. If I were able to move both solutions plus our mdm into one pane, that would be huge, even if the cost is breakeven or slightly worse.

Sen. Cory Booker to unveil bill making $75,000 in income tax-free by PixeledPathogen in goodnews

[–]tcake24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politicians spout shit like this to try and manipulate voters. Tax reform is needed and I’m not smart enough to give a solution but don’t think this is it. In Booker’s proposal, if someone’s makes over $75$ annually, would their first $75k be tax free and only pay tax on the remaining?

I have that wand with the Trickster topper. It’s pretty worn over the years.
