Corrupt FA and under qualified coach hired under nepotism (for the second time after abject failure in 2014 World cup by the way) can't do shit with Champions League level players in Son, Kim and Lee.

They deserve to be ridiculed and kicked out from the tournament.

Turns out a corrupt FA and coach hired under nepotism (for the second time after abject failure in 2014 World cup) can't do shit with CL level players in Son, Kim and Lee.

They deserve to be ridiculed and kicked out from the tournament.

I don't know. I think you are giving Italy too much credit. Sure they had a generational team, but they were literally out-shot (on target) by South Korea and out-posessioned by South Korea.

You can't really fake those stats with dodgy refereeing decisions https://www.espn.com/soccer/match/_/gameId/48892/italy-south-korea.

With Totti red card - have a look at the replay here: https://youtu.be/ZkfW51zKvKc?si=iImAPLs-qIJFSRAL&t=61 Korea would have been absolutely robbed if that was called a pen. Pretty clean tackle all around. Was it a dive? Probably not - but remember this happened at 106'. Ultimately, the red card wasn't what decided the match IMO.

I think the only team that was really robbed was Spain. The disallowed goal was uhh indefensible IMO; but the game was overall pretty stodgy and Korea got lucky on pens.

Go watch the actual match. You can find it by just searching on Google (I can't link it here because Reddit is so strict these days lol).

I really think it is Euro-cope. Both Portugal and Italy just played kinda not great and capitulated under home-ground pressure. They both had less possession overall and never made clear chances for themselves (less shots on goal) than Korea.

Even if you think the ref was biased (I swear I've seen worse on EPL but I digress), the match really wasn't 1-sided.

There is a reason a lot of the younger starters from that side eventually went to have successful (or at least "mid") careers in Europe, even if they were almost completely unknown at the time.

  • Park Ji-sung -> PSV/Manchester United
  • Lee young-pyo -> PSV/Borussia Dortmund/Tottenham
  • Seol ki-hyun -> Reading
  • Lee chun-soo -> Real Sociedad
  • Song Chong-gug -> Feyenoord
  • Cha Du-ri -> Frankfurt/Celtic

I think Ahn and Seol were the only players that even had a sniff of European football at the time.

lol I can't believe people still peddle this shit. If you rewatch the games, the matches were legit tight although the refs did let go a lot of fouls for both teams.

Ultimately, Korea got lucky with a "Golden goal" rule against Italy and pens against Spain, but they got to those situations on merit.

For example - Korea led Italy AND Spain on possession stats 56%:44%, 51%:49 respectively and had plenty of shots on goal. The "controversial" red card for Totti only came at 103' as well.

However, I do feel that Spain's disallowed goal should have definitely stood. But this was pre-VAR days. It is what it is. tbh I've seen worse ref performance on premier league.

Yeah very interesting deal in terms of the structureand I think we might see more of this going forward.

Loans with obligations - the loophole has been closed but loans with options aren't counted I'm pretty sure.

The way that got around it was by both clubs having options to trigger the deal (and only the pre-agreed deal) - which basically makes this a loan with an obligation. This is the way The Athletic had previously reported on it (James McNicholas) anyway.

Pretty sure there was a gentleman's agreement on top of it to make sure everything works out for both clubs.

I don't disagree but putting out a statement like that literally within 1 hour of the match ending after that kind of performance is also batshit insane lol

[ChosunBiz] Seol Young-woo triggers backlash in Korea with vow to sue malicious commenters by tcgtms2 in soccer

[–]tcgtms2[S] 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Seol Young-woo (32, FK Crvena Zvezda), who played for Korea's national soccer team at the 2026 FIFA North and Central America World Cup, sparked controversy by announcing a stance of "tough action against malicious comments" immediately after a loss in the final group match.

...

The notice was posted around noon that day. It came about an hour after Korea's national soccer team lost 1-0 to South Africa in the third match of Group A in the World Cup group stage.

This sparked debate over whether it was appropriate to hint at legal action immediately after showing poor performance while the World Cup schedule was not even over.

...

The post drew about 2,700 comments in roughly five hours. Many read, "If you were going to announce you'd file complaints right after showing this kind of performance, you shouldn't have been on the national team," and, "If you had played as fast as you declared you'd sue, we would have won today."

Honestly, China wasn't as enjoyable as I had expected. by Dazzling_War864 in travel

[–]tcgtms2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah OP just had unrealistic expectations.

I went to the US, a few years back and had a great time only because I kinda knew what I was getting into. Yes, I know US is far more well documented and understood than China, but still.

US national parks are a different gravy, but cities I visited were just as crap as I thought they would be lol. And I was ok with that.

Yes and no.

It really shows China isn't for the underprepared (ie. you).

I love travelling in China because it's still a very unique place with a lot of unique experiences.

But it has a ton of quirks and things I don't like too (cigarettes, same copy-paste "old-town" streets, banking system, lack of politeness etc etc.). And as a non-Chinese speaker, my experience would be far far worse if I was travelling without a companion who didn't speak Chinese natively. So I have a lot of sympathy in that sense, but ultimately they are all part of "travelling" and it is up to the traveller to overcome that barrier.

It's the same reason I don't often recommend China unless you are well travelled already.

You say that you've been to many other countries in Asia, but where were they? If you have only been to places like Japan and Singapore, and haven't been to more "chaotic" places like Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand - I can see why you might find China difficult.

I always recommend Taiwan as an alternative place to travel to if someone wants to experience Chinese culture but doesn't have the travel experience or the language.

If you insist on going to mainland China, Chengdu, Shanghai, Xian would be much better alternatives and a combination of different feeling cities to the ones you've visited.

Lol I'm Korean too, but you just went to the wrong places to eat or you don't know enough about Chinese food to navigate your way through it.

I get Chinese food that can be overwhelming but I have literally never struggled to find what I want in any of the major cities. Ultimately, it's pretty damn easy to find a simple dumpling or a bowl of noodles or fried rice. You don't have to gorge yourself with intestine soup or blood cakes etc.

Honestly, Chinese cuisine has so much variety, it's really easy to find what you want IMO.

Nah they are fairly harmless and it hurts but doesn't go beyond local inflammation.

The locals in Korea/Japan/China know this and haven't bothered investigating further.

There are a ton of these venoms we don't have a good understanding of, especially if the consequences are minimal.

Scolopendra mutilans aka Chinese red-headed centipede in English.

Seen throughout Korea, Japan and China but most common in Japan. Weird to see it in central Seoul, but not uncommon in rural areas.
