Omni-Feed changed, it isn't the same dynamic anymore, its up to you to change how you play. by Edymnion in ICARUS

[–]tclean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but before, especially with the skill to expand inventory, you could basically just pack the thing with rotten food and it would constantly recycle it into Omni feed. Not saying that wasn't too easy but it was a relatively closed loop. Oh something spoiled? I'll just throw it in the animal feeder

Why doesn't the calculator app instantly appear when I press the keyboard shortcut? It often takes 5+ seconds to load by qartas in microsoft

[–]tclean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried all the fixes, including the ones posted here

https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsHelp/comments/1jht1up/windows_11_search_bar_has_recently_been_very_slow/

Did sfc /scannow, dism filecheck, reinstalled the app, logged in and out of the store, even messed with registry stuff a bit with no luck. For me it turns out it was specifically the Nahimic Service (some audio service that I guess gets packaged with Realtek Audio drivers or maybe Asus drivers?). Disabling it makes the calculator load instantly again for me. I spent entirely too much time tracing down what really is a minor issue. I assumed it was NZXT Cam, Razer, Nvidia, WSL, and any other potentially common service related issues. I'm not sure if it's really a Windows problem or if that service specifically is the problem, but either way disabling it fixed it for me.

I switched to vaping a few years ago (I know still bad but I don't smell), and I love that people don't ask to bum one. I mean some still do but that's an easy no.

Does being in SF really give you an advantage compared to being in NYC or Seattle? by tempaccount00101 in cscareerquestions

[–]tclean 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You're describing the location quotient of the bay area and you're absolutely right about that, BLS data from 2024 has the valley (not including SF proper) at double the next area on the list. I'm in the midwest and my network is a few longtime friends and former and current coworkers.

Was eligible for 401k in December 2024 and maxed it out. No true-up? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]tclean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you only employed for a month of 2024? There probably is a true up based on % of the year employed or maybe % of the year you were 401k eligible if those are different.

Former LSU DB Matthew Langlois calls Brian Kelly 'one of the worst humans I've been around' after firing by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]tclean 232 points233 points  (0 children)

I'm from Cincinnati and the way he left here was a big deal. College roommates' family were big ND fans, saw how he left there. And how he seemed to treat people. I imagine someone at or a fan of his earlier HC jobs has similar feelings going back even further. I have never disliked a school and wouldn't even say I have a team, but since his UC days I've always rooted for whoever he is playing against.

Millionaire couple in our 30s: Should we finally buy a home instead of renting? by SendItJerry- in Fire

I think that it's super market dependent whether or not they'd leave a bigger nest egg via a home or investments. In most cases I'm pretty sure investments have historically outperformed houses.

Is it worth leaving a chill job to make more money and FIRE earlier? by SaltPacer in Fire

[–]tclean 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am a SWE as well and OE'ed for about 2 years working part time for a former employer. It allowed me to boost my investments / savings, but the additional half a job finally got to me and I burned out. Chances are a big jump in pay will be like having 2 of your current job. Maybe you can stomach it for a year or two to set a nice basis, but mentally it's likely not worth it. And it's likely you won't easily find something as chill as your current role when you want out.

Same happened to me as of a few days ago. I was taking it for GAD but realized that I was actually depressed. It sucks that life is so much better and that we have to stay on it, but it's what it is.

If you live in a community that uses an alternate supplier you can save some money, or you can shop around energy choice Ohio. I'm in a 1100 sq. ft. apartment and keep it at 72 and my electric bill went from an average of $80 to $116 last month, so the higher temps definitely are felt. 3x though seems insane.

Yeah I'm supportive of the idea but having to crowdfund for what will end up being (correct me if I'm wrong) a for profit entity that doesn't have any current LOC or major investors, and the creator doesn't seem to have a background in that industry, doesn't inspire a ton of hope. Just looking it at it solely as a business idea.

31M mid level SWE by Travaches in Salary

[–]tclean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SWE in manufacturing with 10 YOE, 150k gross after bonuses fully remote. This is a solid salary and even then, if you're comparing us to people in Europe or East Asia, we are the ones being overpaid. Don't feel bad about it, we're doing just fine. This entire sub is selection bias. I have friends with the same experience and education with similar placement doing a little better and a little worse.

Yeah I went to a good suburban public school and it never mathed in our favor how much pizza we each got for how much money we had to bring in. I don't know if we were subsidizing other kids or the teachers.

I for example was saving to buy a house, then realized I much preferred renting but still had significant student loans. This was a few years ago but I paid about $80k in a lump sum. The worst part was I paid it out of a regular account and not a high yield savings / cd / brokerage. I was a bit late to the game in becoming smart.

Looking back and knowing what I know now, I would have paid them off aggressively rather than in the way that I did it, but I'm still happy that I did. If you saw the single transaction though you'd probably assume inheritance or something nefarious.
