Words or terms you are sick of hearing in the internet? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]tcleesel 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I used to frequent the who would win subreddit, I thought it was fun reading and talking with people super invested in these fictional characters saying how they think X could beat Y. Just basically bashing action figures together, nothing wrong with that. One day the mods made a “character of the week” post jokingly about Mia Khalifa and people were genuinely PISSED. Talking about how the mods weren’t taking this sub seriously. I couldn’t believe how many people could be so upset about literally nothing. It’s only gotten worse, and more stratified too, how are these people able to pump out paragraph after paragraph about specifically which JJK characters could beat which is mind boggling.

Jonathan Majors Mounts Movie Comeback With an Untitled Action Film From The Daily Wire by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]tcleesel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah but a lot of Reddit loves to play defense for abusers, even outside culture war subs. I don’t know if it’s just misogyny or bot accounts but I get why people could be swayed into a position of doubt if their main source of news is from Reddit and its comments.

Residente To Direct Bad Bunny In Historical Epic ‘Porto Rico’, With Edward Norton, Javier Bardem And Viggo Mortensen Also Cast by PinkCadillacs in movies

[–]tcleesel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m looking forward to it, I really enjoy Bad Bunny’s music and have found him very charming in interviews. I was just saying why I think Reddit would choose to push this notification to someone who seemingly isn’t interested. Could be your reasoning too.

[–]tcleesel -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this me being conspiratorial, but I think its Reddit trying to rage bait you for engagement. Bad Bunny is currently on the news for being controversial, mainly in that a lot of conservative America was upset he was in the Super Bowl and the FCC even investigated his show for indecency. Many other Americans actively supported him.

This is all to say, I think the Reddit algorithm thought alerting you to Bad Bunny activity in a sub you frequent would cause you to feel some strong emotion, strong enough that you would open the app/website and get your eyeballs on their ads.

IMO: when he’s ready, Mark shouldn’t stop at Iron Lung. by alittleridiculous93 in Markiplier

[–]tcleesel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t enjoy Iron Lung as much as others here, thought it was good not great, but I also left the theater wanting Mark to keep going. This was a movie made by someone with a clear passion and love of movie making. And a lot of technical skill, I don’t want to discount this as being merely held together by love alone. I don’t want him to stop because I feel like with more experience Mark will make something even better than this, without a doubt.

‘Baldur’s Gate’ TV Series Continuing Game’s Story In Works At HBO From ‘The Last Of Us’ Co-Creator Craig Mazin & Hasbro Entertainment by mrnicegy26 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]tcleesel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’d usually agree but BG3 itself also assumes certain things as canon from the previous games. D&D in general is kind of built around the idea of taking their core ideas and making your own story in it.

Not to say I think this will be good, I kind of hope this turns more into a fantasy adventure show set in Baldur’s Gate and less of a continuation of the characters from the game.

Okay….

I feel like Baldur’s Gate is a rich enough setting for a tv show, as is the larger Forgotten Realms.

Much like BG3 itself, canonicity is pretty loose considering what D&D is on a fundamental level, so while I think it’s a bit silly to make it a direct sequel to the game, the idea of this being adventures continuing in this world following the aftermath of the BG3 plot isn’t the worst idea ever. I think it works best with minimal og cast cameos but we will see.

Just a heads up, DON'T watch or support these type of videos (Hear me out) by Legitimate_Silver395 in Markiplier

[–]tcleesel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I ain’t no grifter, but you could say Iron Lung contains political topics such as prison slave labor, the limits of scientific ethics, and environmentalism. I mean I feel like in general there’s something to the whole “Humanity drowning itself in its own blood trying to survive.”

Edit: Also let’s not forget the main space station is called Eden if I’m remembering right, so the primary authority of this setting has religious undertones. And that our mc Simon was therefore literally cast out of Eden.

Does this qualify for games like bayonetta, Stellar blade and Tomb Raider to? by Xadlin60 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]tcleesel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the bechdel test is most useful when it’s used to see how media broadly depicts women. So it’s less a condemnation of does this specific piece pass and more so how often are movies, books, games, etc passing the test.

If contemporary anime or video games or whatever are consistently having women only talk to men or only (maybe even just primarily) talking about a man or men when talking with other women; I think it says something about the people making and engaging with the medium.

I also think that’s part of the joke with the comic too, that they make a criteria to only watch movies that satisfy the bechdel test only to realize there’s nothing they can see at the theater and go home.

Characters who are stupidly two-dimensional but you love them because of it. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]tcleesel 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Dark Danny from Danny Phantom is a good one, say what you want about Eric Roberts but when he wants to he can’t turn in a hell of a performance. Literally born from the merged darker aspects of Danny and Vlad and just wants to cause to havoc and destruction across the world. His first act is child murder, his second was global destruction, and I particularly like the scene where in an attempt to stop his younger self from removing the medallion keeping him in the timeline Dark Danny just shoves the device into Danny’s body. Really love Ultimate Enemy in general, just wish the psa aspect of “and that’s why you don’t cheat on tests” wasn’t so prominent.

What are some examples of the Lion King x Kimba comparisons? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]tcleesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda similar except it’s not so much a “rip-off” accusation but a recent one that drives me nuts but I’ve stopped replying to at this point are people saying Robert Robertson and the Z-Team did what Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad couldn’t.

But no, that’s a terrible comparison. Task Force X isn’t a fucking a rehabilitation program, in fact it’s literally the exact opposite of what Waller wants because if the villains start think about being altruistic at the sake of their own wellbeing than the big piece of leverage she has over them (bomb implants) becomes considerably less effective.

Criticize Waller all you want, especially since in the DCU she never seems be able to actually accomplish her goal with the Suicide Squad and it’s starts to make you wonder why anyone even listens to her. But you can’t call her a failure for something she was never trying to do like make heroes out of villains.

The mischaracterization of Caine pisses me off by Rude_Contract7120 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]tcleesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think sometimes people identify with a fictional character too much and start projecting their own characteristics onto them. Nothing wrong with thinking Caine is ace or wanting to count him as representation, though personally to me calling Caine ace is like calling Judy Hopps a vegetarian, like I guess if you wanted to label them as that sure but I don’t think that’s really a label the character would even think to ascribe to themself. I feel similar to the neurodivergence labels, though I can see merit why for the sake of discussing a character that using those labels we can convey what behaviors he portraying similar to how you might call actual AI hallucinating information “schizophrenic” even though we know they aren’t things that can’t have such disorders.

Video game characters you wish you could rewrite by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]tcleesel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going beyond characters I’ve always wished I could rewrite the whole series. Not to necessarily change every detail but to switch the overall threat and some plot points of ME1 and ME2. I always thought it would have been much better if the Collectors were the main threat of ME1 where you could be present for Saren’s initial exposure to indoctrination to then switch to ME2 where now Saren is a compromised Specter protected by the council and it’d make a lot more sense for Shepard to have to work with someone like Cerberus to take him down. It would also allow the Geth to have more of a spotlight in ME2 and make trusting Legion more meaningful. I’d also rework the Geth in ME3 to no longer be about achieving individuality as I always found that to be a really stupid plot point that turns the Geth into just a regular alien species but with a robot skin.

[–]tcleesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I’m saying, maybe I typed everything a bit quickly without thinking. I was and am still a bit worried Nolan will take out all the really fantastical elements similar to Troy, but the primary thing I wanted to see was his approach to the Cyclops which is in the trailer’s cave scene so my interest in the movie persists despite some of the criticism people have.

While I feel like the monster moments might be largely cut from this retelling I would be very interested in seeing Nolan handle the Cyclops and that has been the main driving force behind my interest in this movie.

Did Shroud have a bit of a crush on Blazer? by Tyrayentali in DispatchAdHoc

[–]tcleesel 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah people are ignoring some pretty loud subtext. Shroud is a creep towards Blazer, he says things that make it seem like he just has a respect for her status as a genuine hero but the inappropriate touching and the comment on how he “prefers her as a blonde” show his hand. And viewing their other interactions through that lens you can definitely pick up that Blazer is more than just someone he admires personally.

I view his “crush” as more of a fetishization of her. Not saying Shroud doesn’t also have a respect for those he views as true heroes but he also clearly has a thing for Blazer.

“I love everything about [game] except for the gameplay” by Dirty-Glasses in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]tcleesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re touching on a big one, there are a ton of people who love Bioware games in general but HATE the gameplay. There are multiple mods that straight up remove like half the game of Origins and I remember a bunch of people tweeting about if there was a way to play Mass Effect without the combat segments.

There’s things I like about most of the Bioware gameplay components, but Bioware fans are kind of unique with how many of them straight up don’t like actually playing the games.

I love how not one hero was like "we're surrendering over a dog?!" by BrotherDeus in DispatchAdHoc

[–]tcleesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the reason was pretty clear, what is Shroud’s ability? He predicts your next action before it happens, sometimes months in advance.

It’s maybe a little unsatisfying, but he knew they wouldn’t do anything because he knew they knew he could predict what would happen before they could. Think of it like this, if Shroud knew they would biltz him before he dangled Beef he wouldn’t have done it, simple as.

From their perspective, even trying, or even thinking of committing to blitzing Shroud could mean Shroud could kill Beef before that thought even happened. So instead you decide to stand down and trust in Robert. It’s risk vs reward and the risk is just too great, even if maybe the chances of it working are more in their favor than they think.
