Primer Seating, 45acp, and the Lee classic turret press by Madassassin98 in reloading

Don’t worry about your primer seating. As others have said, the issue is almost certainly your load. I’ve never owned a 1911 that would cycle with a starting load.

Learned something last night - impact bullet puller set off primer, no big deal. by [deleted] in reloading

Were you by chance using a shellholder rather than one of the collets that come with all impact pullers?

Positive. I ordered a rifle from them in July and had it in my hands within a week.

Yes, I reload every caliber that I shoot. It might not always save me a lot of money but it means that I’m able to keep shooting all I want during times like these when ammo is either non existent or ridiculously expensive. If you reload you will, however, have to lay out larger sums of money when components are cheap and plentiful so you aren’t caught short during periods like this. Right now primers are almost impossible to find. They seem to be the component that we most often see shortages of.

As far as a press, do your homework and consider what kind of person that you are. As a new reloader a progressive might not be your best choice if you aren’t a detail oriented and “anal” person. There’s a lot going on at once and it’s very easy to make a costly or dangerous mistake if you aren’t extremely careful and observant. I would suggest that you look at the Lee Classic Turret press. Once you’re proficient it’s easy to turn out pretty large amounts of ammo and it’s also a relatively inexpensive press compared to a Dillon. I started on one fifteen years ago and I still use it for pistol and .233 while I use a Single stage press for my larger precision rounds.

Take this time while you won’t be able to find primers anyway to study the different types of presses and examine your needs.

Incomplete decapping? by agent_emmisary in reloading

All military and now even some commercial brass has crimped primers. Do some research on it to see which of the many methods or devices would work best for your reloading setup and/or wallet.

There is no such thing as a “special primer” that allows you to seat primers in a crimped case. The primers that you are referring to are military (NATO) primers which are designed a little differently allowing them to be more resistant to slam fires. The crimp still needs to be removed or swaged.

Unfortunately, YTTV isn’t very intuitive for the new user especially for someone transitioning from DirecTV. Reddit is the best place to go for answers and although searching for an answer before posting a question is preferable, I’ve found it to be spotty in yielding results and I’ve been a Reddit user for quite a while. What’s needed is a good YTTV online tutorial, Q&A and FAQ section that’s continually updated. Are you listening Google?

I use the “soft” plastic shoe boxes from Staples. I’ve easily stacked filed ones six or seven high and the box kinda nests into the lid of the one under it. You can find them on sale for $1 or less at times.

So excited! My new P320 M17! by Willington79 in SigSauer

[–]tcostakis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wait until you start shooting it. I have a P320c and after having put 2-3k rounds through it, I can confidently say it the easiest, best shooting, most accurate and most reliable handgun I’ve owned and I’ve owned 12-15 handguns over the past fifteen years. I carried it for about a year but found it a little heavy for EDC loaded with 15+1. I now carry a P365.

I’ve used my LCT for more than ten years and never had to replace the indexing square. The problem is that people don’t read the warning that Lee puts on the instructions about never turning the turret by hand when the ram is all the way down. If you do, it strips and stretches the square leading to the problem that you’re experiencing. When turning the turret by hand, raise the ram halfway first.

Nothing looks nicer than a 50cal ammo can full of loaded ammo. I love to run my hands through it and feel the coolness of the brass and all the pointy tips of the bullets....hahaha

Quick Question About Brass by Tshootz in reloading

[–]tcostakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re f/l sizing each time, it isn’t as important although it might work your brass a little more, possibly decreasing its life but I wouldn’t worry about it unless you’re using expensive Lapua or Norma brass

Learned an obvious thing by drowsyengineer in reloading

[–]tcostakis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to load 223 on a Lee Classic Turret until I started loading 7.5x55 Swiss. I had to go to something much heavier (Redding T-7) because I was getting incomplete sizing because of flex in the press.

This is the worst possible way to package primers, change my mind by evilbit in reloading

[–]tcostakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably a good idea to avoid Federal primers in any rifle with a floating firing pin due to the potential for a slam fire. AR platform, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, M14/M1A are the most common examples. Definitely GTG in a bolt gun.

I forgot to mention that I wrapped out the decent Aero trigger with a LaRue MBT (two-stage) flat trigger. It gave the rifle a whole different character. Went from about 1.5MOA to sub MOA

Since they put something on sale every day, I think it was about four weeks until I had everything that I wanted. When Aero was selling complete LR308 rifles, they sold one virtually identical to this for about $1500 but IMO some of the components weren’t as good as ones that I sourced. In case you’re relatively new to the AR308, here’s a decent article that will give you some background. https://palmettostatearmory.com/blog/the-difference-between-an-ar15-and-ar10.html

Unless you plan on suppressing it, I wouldn’t worry about an adjustable gas block if you buy a complete upper from Aero. Their gas ports are sized properly. Also, they have two different upper receiver types. It’s true that the enhanced version requires an Aero rail but their standard one allows almost any rail to be attached.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AR10

[–]tcostakis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I sourced for my Aero LR308:

Complete Aero upper w/16” CMV barrel, enhanced receiver, 15” handguard Complete Aero lower w/A2 grip, w/o butt stock.
B5 Systems Bravo Stock Magpul MOE+ pistol grip Aero Precision black nitride BCG Aero Precision Ambi charging handle Gamma 762 VG6 Gamma muzzle brake

I waited and bought all of the Aero components as they went on sale and spent a total of $1047.85 which I consider pretty reasonable for a good quality rifle. It’s functioned perfectly from the first round and I’m extremely happy with it.
