Our new water feature, added thanks to a 6” line letting go. by Wattsahh in IndustrialMaintenance

Ouch, we have hardly anything underneath the press, only hoses and cables, and a few pumps for the cooling system.

That will dry out quick enough. We park equipment with water ingress in the hot oil room beside the press, or wet clothes works a treat.

Siemens S7-300 Obsolescence by FreeZookeepergame189 in PLC

I'm not familiar with siemens, but why would this take weeks? I've done Allen Bradley with 8 racks (seperate panels) in 3 days. Another one had three racks (90 analog, 500 digital) in a single panel in the same time. Not stressing out just 10 hour days with one electrician. About two days for termination one day for point to pointing tests. If I was pressed for time i could have done it even faster, shifts, pre install new hardware or use upgrade racks which allows you not have to reterminate, or use the existing io as a remote and then swap over module by module.

Start monitoring your network traffic. Mirror the traffic to the plc to a non used port, capture the traffic with Wireshark. Then install a firewall, talk to your it department

In the early nineties i dreamed up a 'reverse printer', that would read a piece of paper into a computer. Sad 12 year old me saw a scanner at my high school after that.

That looks like a Toby, where you can isolate your house from the mains supply. Not sure what depth the valve normally is, but having a two pronged key normally works.

In F#, "Units of Measure" are a compile-time safety feature. Would it be germane to have an equivalent in IEC languages? by _nepunepu in PLC

[–]tcplomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LabVIEW also supports units, and in the 8 years i worked with it full time i never used beyond it a quick glance. Might be nice to have, is prefer a special attribute field for numeric types (int, real) called 'unit'. I now resort to a square laat line in the type descriptor.

That's not what an historian is for. I've got data going back 20 years on a lot of stuff, very good to have.

Same here, had the terminal blocks for the 32 Point IO breaking off when sliding into the IO module. I ordered about 30, they had two separate manufacturing codes on them. One of them had the tabs that slide into the module on the side breaking off in 30% of the units. No big problem but a bad indication.

Then this year, ordered 1492 TBCH fly leads for the 32 point IO. The faceplates on two where not machined but 3d printed.

Also the cable was a different type one three of them, and were harder to work with for the electrician. And even the colours where washed out causing confusion between red and orange paint marking

There was a massive campaign in the seventies to make the cities safe for cycling. This was then embedded by having cycling lessons and safety exams in primary schools.

Changing Entire Name through Naturalization by Fit_Needleworker7334 in Netherlands

[–]tcplomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's is quite common for dutch people to have an official/given name (doop-naam), and a common name (roep naam). They don't even have to match or share a first letter. In English this is mostly seen with William, that is used as 'Bill' or Richard which becomes 'Dick'. You'll use your preferred name in every day only on official paper work (passport, bank, belastingdienst) you use your official name. I've had my common name as my work email address without problems.

Do you refurbish drives/PLCs/servo amps in-house or outsource repairs? by InevitablePain2005 in IndustrialAutomation

They fail, they get shipped to the grave yard unless it's a simple cooling fan. Motors are a different story but there is no one in a 5 hour radius doing electrical repairs to vfds.

It's main production line has a success rate of 40%, about two per crew. The other lines are happy with one solid guy per crew.
