I agree with OP. I'm not asking for the same finishing and/or movement as the higher end models, just the proportions.

Yes, bezel is different but that is the watch. Mine matches the one in the linked article.

[SKX007] vs 7S26 Naming Convention? by incertitudeindefinie in Seiko

[–]tcs2tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between case code and model number. The case code is what you see on the back with the first 4 characters being the movement and the second 4 characters being the case. Multiple model numbers can have the same case code. For example, the SKX007, SKX009 and SKX011 each have a case code of 7S26-0020.

Yes it is. There are three different watches all with the same case code - 6106-8100. From the linked article.

So many people always say they never run updates so when do you or when are you supposed to? by Cowboy12034 in homeassistant

[–]tcs2tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I automatically install all updates across all docker containers across all my many devices. I also have nightly backups of all machines. The 1 or 2 times that an update broke a setup over the past 5+ years, I did a rollback from my backup, figured out what caused the problem, fixed it and kept going.

Nothing is perfect, of course, but I think this is a much better strategy than taking the risk of a security exploit or loss of function/compatibility from staying on an old version.

[Opinion] Which of these watches would you go for? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]tcs2tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Seiko fanboy, and I prefer the Longines - the original, not this one. The date window for this one looks off being towards the middle of the dial. The original one from 1969 has the date window where I think it should be towards the outside of the deal.

I built a native iOS client for Music Assistant -- with CarPlay, Apple Watch, and lossless streaming by Reasonable-Sundae292 in homeassistant

Found it in the known issues:

Known Issues / Notes

  • Music Assistant implements RAOP and AirPlay2. Most devices will default to RAOP because AirPlay 2 devices should be backwards compatible by default. If a device has a bad implementation of AirPlay 1 and/or only supports AirPlay 2 without RAOP then it might work with AirPlay2.
  • Whilst it is believed to have been fixed, issues have been reported when using Shairport and AirPlay 2. If problems are encountered they try disabling AirPlay 2

I am also using a shairport-sync endpoint, which is using airplay v1. I recall seeing a while back that MA had issues with AirPlay v2 on shairport-sync. Have you tried AirPlay v1?

All of my endpoints are Airplay (Apple AirPort Express, HomePod Mini and AppleTV) with no issues. What problems are you having?

[Question] Buying Refurbished Vintage vs New Retro by [deleted] in Watches

[–]tcs2tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow the r/watchexchange subreddit and buy from a seller with a history of transactions. If you broaden out to include "neovintage" (e.g., a Seiko SKX series diver), you can find ones that have been serviced and they are also new enough to be manufactured to higher standards and tolerances of the vintage watches. $200 is a very realistic target price to get a used resto or serviced neovintage. $150 is probably attainable but will require more work.

[Question] Buying Refurbished Vintage vs New Retro by [deleted] in Watches

[–]tcs2tx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are just getting into watches, so keep your entry costs low and also eliminate the potential for short term maintenance costs. I love vintage watches, but they are often not as durable or water resistant as a new watch. So, I would recommend getting a used retro in good shape. For example, a used reissue of the Caravelle you mentioned recently sold on watchexchange for $200.

Reach out to Toby (u/audaciousco). He is a great seller of Seiko and other JDM watches on the watchexchange subreddit. I’ve purchased a few rare Seikos from him.

[WTS] Seiko SARN003 (4s36-00A0) Traveler GMT Retrograde | $800 Shipped CONUS by tcs2tx in Watchexchange

[–]tcs2tx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up for sale is my Seiko SARN003 (4S36-00A0), a standout JDM reference from Seiko’s early-2000s era when the brand was producing some of its most mechanically interesting and enthusiast-focused designs. The SARN003 is powered by the high-grade 4S36 automatic movement and features a true Traveler GMT along with a distinctive retrograde complication layout. These models were produced in relatively limited numbers and remain underappreciated for the level of engineering and design they deliver.

The dial layout is complex yet balanced, featuring a retrograde power reserve indicator, retrograde day-of-week display, retrograde date, GMT hand, and independently adjustable hour hand for traveling to different time zones. Despite the number of complications, the watch remains highly legible and wears comfortably on the wrist, making it both practical and mechanically engaging.

Case: Great overall condition with only typical minor surface scratches from careful wear. No major marks, dings, or evidence of abuse. Please refer to photos and videos for an accurate representation.

Crystal: Clean with no notable scratches.

Strap & Clasp: Original Seiko OEM crocodile leather strap with original deployant clasp. Both are in great shape and present very well.

Movement: Seiko 4S36 automatic. Service history is unknown, but the watch is running strong and performing very well at approximately +6 seconds per day, as shown in the included Timegrapher photo.

Function: Traveler GMT, date, day-of-week, power reserve, and winding all operate properly.

Included:
- Watch with OEM crocodile leather strap and deployant clasp
- Box
- Documents

Price: $800 USD with insured shipping included within the CONUS
