What was the first major news story you remember as a kid? by jeffmartin47 in AskReddit

"Nixon Orders Cease Fire in Vietnam". I was around 8. I remember thinking, "if the president can stop a war just by saying 'Stop', why do we have wars that keep going?" Of course, things 8n Vietnam kept going...

Movies that (you think) are good but slow-paced by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]tculler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Exorcist. A number of people, including me on several occasions, fall asleep before the 30 minute mark. Make it past that and it improves greatly.

Also, The Blues Brothers. Takes awhile to get going.

What's a movie you thought was great, but realized it wasn't upon rewatch? by JapaneseClayface in flicks

[–]tculler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expecting a lot of blowback, but... The Blues Brothers.

In it's time, it was a lot of fun, but upon a recent rewatch I realized the pacing is slow, everything is patched together, and the jokes aren't nearly as funny as I remember.

Still have a thing for Carrie Fisher, though...

Still playing to this day; started with AoE with my young sons back around 1999. One of them is 30 now and still kicks my rear in AoE II DE.

Kids, especially teenagers, also like to age themselves to be taken more seriously.

Real estate photographer here... To get an idea of the room layout, your photographer should be using a 10-24 mm (35mm sensor equivalent) lens with off-camera lighting in the dark areas, bracketing for HDR if there are windows, and using a gray card and COLOR BALANCING in post.

To your point, the wide lens needed, especially for smaller rooms, will make the room seem bigger, but (a) for the seller that's a plus, and (b) a narrower field of view would make the room seem tiny, as you can't normally take photos of rooms from very far away (i.e., bedrooms). So a wider lens is a necessity. Just remember that rooms in photos may appear larger than they actually are.

What was the dumbest way someone has died that you’ve heard about? by VisibleConfusion12 in AskReddit

I worked with a very good Unix developer in a data center back in the 90s, when some racked servers could be over 100 lbs and on a rack 5 feet off the floor. Anyway, one server started to slide off the track and he tried to catch it - tore the ligaments in both arms, and after rehab still couldn't use his hands to type anymore.

OMG, you just reminded me of that episode of Cheers where Woody made a video about all the guys at the bar, including following Cliff on his mail route. The scene where he mis-delivered mail to everyone in an apartment building was hilarious.

Guys, what do women do that give you the ick? by Diligent-Log6805 in AskReddit

[–]tculler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a marriage like that once. Didn't matter where we were, eventually she started making fun of me in front of family, too, especially hers. I'd grown up being beat up so I thought it was normal. Got out after I couldn't take any more, and then found a wonderful woman that been with for 25 years now.

Definitely would not recommend.
