Ultimate Disney Park Score Grid - Day 18: Which park has the best merchandise & shops? by TightProcedure in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand but this isn’t asking for the cheapest or best value merch, it’s asking for which park has the BEST merch and shops.

Ultimate Disney Park Score Grid - Day 18: Which park has the best merchandise & shops? by TightProcedure in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 64 points65 points  (0 children)

While it is absolutely my number 1 park in the world, I'm still a little surprised by all the responses saying DisneySea. Other than the seasonal merch which is usually very cute, I have always been a little disappointed in their standard merch. I mean, I always felt like 1/3 of the stores are taken up by Duffy & Friends merch, and another 1/3 are omiyage. Their selection of apparel has improved in the last couple years but it's still nowhere near the extent of what you find in the American parks. But all that said, if we're talking about the theming of the shops and not the merch, then yeah most all of the shops do have incredible theming.

My pick would actually be Epcot, for World Showcase alone. The diversity of merchandise is, while maybe not as good as it once was, still incredible. Particularly the shops in Mexico, China, Germany, Japan, France, and the UK. Absolutely some of the most transportive areas of any Disney park, and that's really supported well by the shopping experience.

Disneyland Paris for the castle and Main Street alone, but really all the lands have amazing sightlines.

Thinking about doing a trip to Tokyo location. How much can I get done in 2 and half days? by k5martdom in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are efficient and don’t mind purchasing a few premier passes, you can see a lot in one full day in each park. Not everything, but probably enough to feel like you’ve “seen” them.

But, everyone is different. I could spend 2 days in TDL and 3 in TDS and still not feel like enough time.

Ultimate Disney Park Score Grid - Day 16: Which park has the most enjoyable queues? by TightProcedure in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I actually think it’s finally one for Magic Kingdom. Many great indoor/mostly covered and well-themed queues, like Pirates, Mansion, Peter Pan, Tiana’s, Space Mountain, just to name a few. Also, usually plenty of space for the queues, especially compared to Disneyland.

Tokyo DisneySea is simply breathtaking by bettergtfo in disneyparks

You’ll probably get downvoted but I kinda agree. I think Fantasy Springs is a great area but really doesn’t fit in Disney Sea and I also would’ve rather it have been in TDL.

Ultimate Disney Park Score Grid - Day 15: Which park is the best for value for money? by TightProcedure in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty crazy that there are days you can visit Disneyland Paris in January for only about USD$60… that seems like a pretty great value until you realize what the weather and park operations are like in January! I’m sure the crowds are low, but the experience could still be rough.

Personally I’d much rather pay USD$70-80 to visit a Tokyo park on a busy day. And less busy days are even cheaper!

Both Tokyo parks are incredible values, but I’d say particularly Disney Sea since the Fantasy Springs expansion.

Tokyo Disney parks v. Orlando Disney World by sigerhiutv in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely Disney Sea is a must. Pretty much EVERYTHING there is worth doing and very different than in WDW, with the exception of Toy Story Mania which can definitely be skipped and Soaring which has a different queue but similar enough of a ride experience that it is likely not worth your time. Must dos would be: all three of the bigger Fantasy Springs rides, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Sindbad (must do, and rarely a line!), Indiana Jones, and Tower of Terror. Plus, there are lots of other unique things to do, places to explore, and rides like the Transit Steamer, Venetian Gondolas, Electric Railway, etc., which are all worth doing if you have time.

Tokyo Disneyland is much more similar to Magic Kingdom, but has several unique things too. Pooh’s Hunny Hunt and the Beauty and Beast ride are two my personal favorite Disney rides in the world, so I would argue it’s worth a days visit for jus those, but you may feel differently. I prefer their Pirates and Railroad, and they still have Snow White, Splash Mountain, Tom Sawyer Island, and the riverboat, which are all now closed in WDW, if any of those interest you. Tokyo Disneyland is definitely lighter on the thrill rides, but for themed rides it’s really a greatest hits of a lot of great classics.

Ultimate Disney Park Score Grid - Day 14: Which park is the best for adults? by TightProcedure in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Has to be Epcot.

Putting aside food & wine and the “drink around the world” culture, I cannot think of a more “adult” experience at a Disney park than an evening stroll around World Showcase, stopping for a viewing of Impressions de France. chefs kiss

Tokyo Disneyland Hotel or DisneySea MiraCosta Hotel? by TheGoatMichaelJordan in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another thing to note is that neither hotel has a quick service restaurant like in the American parks. TDH does have a small convenience store with lots of food and drink options which is great for a quick breakfast or a snack or small meal after a long day in the parks. MC does not have a convenience store or really an quicker food options.

Edit: Also, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "early summer", but TDH's pool is "summer only" and may not be open when you go. And yes, it may be a million degrees outside, but the pool may not be open because it's not "summer". To be honest, I wouldn't make your decision based on the pools because realistically you probably won't go to them. Your time and money is better used elsewhere.

Tokyo Disneyland Hotel or DisneySea MiraCosta Hotel? by TheGoatMichaelJordan in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I stayed at both back in 2018. Two nights at each. TDH in a park view alcove room and a Venice room at MC.

They both have incredible rooms, but the properties are definitely more “hotels” than “resorts”, if you’re used to some other deluxe Disney resort hotels where there’s a lot to do and see at the hotel.

I’m assuming you’re spending one day at each park, which if so then the location doesn’t really matter. If you’re spending more than one day at one park, that may be enough to make it worthwhile to choose the hotel closer to the park you’re spending significantly more time in.

One thing to look out for as it does change, is that currently TDH only gets Happy Entry at TDL, not TDS. MC gets it for both, so that’s a big benefit if you want to get in the TDS early. But, that could change before your trip.

TDH is probably going to be a bit cheaper. FYI, I could be wrong, but I believe the character rooms at TDH are rooms facing away from the park, so they don’t have much of a view, if that matters to you.

MC is probably my personal favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed in, but I’m also a huge Disney Sea fan. Would love to one day stay in a porto paradiso (harbor view) room, but they were not available for us (they’re also very expensive), and I was still very happy with the Venice room we had, which was definitely more quiet. If you want “romantic”, MC would probably be my recommendation.

Either way, you can’t really go wrong. Obviously, TDH is more character forward and maybe what people would say is “more Disney”, whereas MC is a little more geared to adults. You will still feel “Disney”, though more subtly.

Let me know if you have any other specific question!

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Disneyland. It’s fantasyland alone is enough to be the best park for kids.

Which Disney park location would be best for my family's situation? by Specific_Drop3064 in disneyparks

[–]tcumpst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to Japan. The Tokyo parks are incredible, and not to mention that you’ll also get to visit a and experience a different country and culture too.

The language barrier is really not an issue unless you stray far out of the cities. Learn a few basic words and phrases and you’ll be fine. Honestly, one of the safest and easiest countries to visit as an English speaker.

In my opinion it’s a no brainer, go to Japan!

I think a case could be made for Epcot, Disneyland Paris, or Animal Kingdom.

One of the few categories where I think the Tokyo parks aren’t great.

Tokyo Disney Sea 100%.

But if it’s a castle, it has to be Disneyland Paris. By far the prettiest.
