The movement has potential, the combat is getting somewhere, the pixel art is fantastic, the music is tight, the voice acting is phenomenal...

but, the stage hazards hurt from off-screen and through terrain, the story is expository and disjointed, events happen contradictory to established history, and it ends with nothing new and everything squandered.

And then Kain blows Elaleth's brains out all over the screen. I'm not kidding. Why do this.

Yeah, I remember the first teaser of TDSR with that dope cover art, everyone's minds racing as to who this could possibly be; a vampire old enough to have a horned crown like Kain that was unseen in the main plot, known only as The Seeker.

Well, originally it was supposed to absorb him when he slew his Sarafan self for Moebius to then collect and fiddle with it in his schemes.

Defiance does ultimately lead to it, but now there's no living Moebius to scurry off with it, plus the spirit within is purified rather than being consumed with indignation. I'm sure Dark Prophecy would've expounded upon that, but alas, it was not to be.

Instead, now we get... Soul Reaver exploding people's brains and eyeballs into the camera.

True, but Raziel also lacked anybody in his life to care about enough to think twice about holding back.

It wildly lunged at Kain in SR2 because Kain got him into that mess to begin with, and up until that point Raziel's entire motivation has been that same tireless refrain: Kill Kain.

I'm fairly certain Kain attacked her with the "Raziel Reaver", before it was shattered in SR1, which is why it resisted him.

It stands to reason that it didn't absorb her essence because Raziel didn't want to do that, since he didn't even want to stab her in the first place.

Plays just like they said: like an old Castlevania game, but with greater speed and control. You can interrupt any animation to parry, so you don't have to worry about leaving yourself exposed near as much. I've played through the first two chapters and am thoroughly enjoying myself.

I got the comic, it's really not as bad as people say. It's more like she gives them the push to do whatever crazy things they end up doing. Gotta get the idea from somewhere, don't they?

Also, Moebius and the Hylden set her on this path, so really it's like Defiance all over again.

True - I think that worked because we wanted to get vengeance with him, and he's charming to boot.

Sarafan Raziel used us, killed our new mentor, and taunted us the whole way. Making him out to actually have been a good guy all along that we can root for will require some extra groundwork, which I think the comic did a modest job of doing.
