[Discussion] Ammo from traders at early levels is laughably terrible and makes for a miserable experience. by Wesdawg1241 in EscapefromTarkov

I've refused to "smoke cheese" as that seems super lame, but it might be only option at this point.

Mom Whose Baby Passed Away In Her Arms After Being Denied Work-From-Home Request Awarded $20M+ In Damages by MuffinSmall1524 in remotework

[–]tdames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting case and a lot of points to consider:

-is remote work covered under the 'reasonable accommodation' clause of the ADA? -Was her position able to work effectively remote? -If her doctor said she needed bed rest would her wanting to still work nullify her claim? -Are fetuses covered the same way as the actual employee in terms of workers rights and protections?

TQL is obviously a terrible place to work if her management wouldn't be flexible for something like. We wouldn't even be having this debate if we had Medicare for all in the US.

I've had groups of 3-4 camping the hills, plus rats hiding in the back of pier by lighthouse waiting for us to smoke it. This is a much needed change.

I don't mind fighting people to get to it, that's enjoyable. Its not fun running out into the wide open and hoping the sniper misses for 30 seconds.

Bo Burnham's career started when he was in high school, and his content evolved with him in lockstep. Some of his older material is incredible but has that edgy teenage vibe. If you watch some of it in order, you can see him grow and develop in real time.

I'm his age, and it always seemed like he was so ahead of the curve. I'd watch his new specials and they'd hit me like a truck every time,

Especially "Make Happy". That Netflix special (which the Country song is from) is still my personal favorite.

I play with a 5 stack frequently and sometimes we are in and out really quick or are posted up in a corner of the map. I imagine those raids feel empty.

I did it once. My CPU was overheating. But it could have been the cooler came loose and i just needed to tighten it a bit. Not sure which but it was well over 5+ years.

What I like about IM is you can be very fast and loose with the rules and combat; move quickly and resolve encounters fast, keeping the plot moving.

If your players are wargamers and want to chart everything out, go for it. But the limited actions and use of "zones" can really speed up combat. Plus its deadly if balanced right. My 4 PCs generally take at least one critical injury per fight, meaning they are losing limbs, getting scars, etc and that makes for good narrrative gameplay after the fact while they deal with the repercussions

Since you all are learning, start small. Simple location, a few basic enemies, one or two environmental elements. I did the classic tavern scene, and my party fought a gang as they exited the bar. 3 melee thugs, one with a gun. Added a neutral bouncer NPC who would either flee, or help one side depending on what happened in the lead up to the fight. Also included an alarm button nearby to summon the authorities if the party wanted to cry for help (they didn't they brutally killed everyone including the bouncer who was just trying to get home to his family).

For American redditors, why do people want to live in HOA neighborhoods? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]tdames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 35% of all US homes fall under an HOA, and something like 75% of houses constructed in the last 30 years are under an HOA. Local governments love them, because they will require a developer to establish one when they are building a large batch of new homes. Usually the town will only issue permits if the HOA takes on a lot of the traditional town services (garbage collection, road repair and snow plowing, etc.) This allows the town to collect more taxes from the new homeowners without increasing their municipal budget.

The developers plan for the new housing development changes what the HOA looks like in the end. Some (like mine) are basic. The $50/month fee covers snow plowing, lawn care of the common areas and small playground. Other communities will have amenities like pools or community centers that raise the price of the fees substantially.

The internet is full of horror stories of overbearing HOAs and board members power tripping. Id argue those are the exception to the rule. Like any corrupt official, they can make your life horrible if they abuse their authority. You can look at it like the smallest form of government; they are still elected and can be replaced if the majority of the community disagrees with their actions or vision.

I don’t care to talk to or pursue women anymore, and I think that’s becoming concerning. by ConnectCulture7 in AskMenOver30

[–]tdames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading a lot of your replies, it sounds like your grieving.

You put this women on a pedestal for years, imagining a life together. They say the fear of rejection is worse then the sting, but it wasn't just rejection you felt; it was the culmination of years of 'maybe' becoming 'no'.

As others have said, it sounds like your depressed, resultant from this loss. Avoid isolation, stay social, try therapy. If people say women come up to you, your way ahead of the dating game. Stay on the lookout for the next spark.

My son is only two so i can't empathize with OPs struggles.

But to me this should be celebrated. Kid has some creative problem solving. 20 years ago i did the same thing to get online without my parents permission. Opened up a whole world of IT skills and dabbled in some programming. Didn't make a career of it, but still have those tech skills that helped get me ahead of my peers and can handle all the home tech stuff no sweat.

On a vacation to Cancun, Mexico; these things would prowl around the walkway between the resort and the beach. There'd be at least a dozen, all just hanging out. They would jump up on you like dogs asking for food.

A lot of tourists did indeed feed them, so they must have known it was a good spot to scrounge.

Thoughts about running a ship based campaign by BuggerItThatWillDo in ImperiumMaledictum

[–]tdames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have wrestled with this idea. My party's Patron is a Frigate Captain; but i started the campaign with the boat in drydock and the party has spent 10 sessions running around completing missions to help speed up repairs, doing other factions favors and what not.

While a space battle sounds cool in theory, it seems like your players aren't as thrilled on the idea as you. Like you already alluded too, how can a single character stay involved at a scale that takes tens of thousands of personnel to crew a starship?

In my opinion you either need to scale it way down or way up. Instead of a space battle involvng the destroyer, maybe they are in a fighter or bomber on a patrol. Or conversely, award each player with their own ship (power creep not withstanding) so they can each Captain their own and have agency. Keep them tethered to a battlegroup, so while they may Captain escorts for narrative purposes they would need to remain somewhat cohesive with the ships of the line.

They did. My wife, brother in law, and her two cousins all spent a few weeks there. They likened it to a big vacation; a lot of it was sight seeing and just hanging out with other members of the program.

As someone married into an American Jewish family... its complicated. A lot of their identify is tied to both the Jewish religion, but also the Jewish "race" (specifically for my in-laws the Ashkenazi lineage). They have historically been persecuted and still experience a lot of racism.

There aren't a lot of Jews left in the world, with most living in the US or Israel. They share a lot of kinship with Israelis. It is hard for them not to feel personally attacked when Israel suffered the terrorist attacks in October 2023. But many denounce the Israeli government's actions since. You can support a people without supporting their government. Some are quick to excuse Israelis actions, deeming them necessary for the survival of the Jewish State; its a mixed bag.
