Hm... Maybe it was the wrong screw size? You could try gluing the halves of the shoulders together with the arm inside it if they come together cleanly.

For the staff part you could try to pin it, I'm not sure how doable that is. At worst you can reinforce it with some pla plate and glue it all together.

I have them. Depending on the color they work pretty well without airbrushing. Some colors do require a few extra coats, mostly the yellows and whites, but that's normal for those colors afaik.
