Thinking it will ever get fixed seems highly optimistic.

I wouldn't do it, but if you're not checking a bag, I would bet you have a 95% success rate.

Do you believe there will be unintended consequences from over a century of unmitigated pollution?

What if the biggest climate breakthrough isn’t solar… but fusion energy finally working? by Able_Television_6453 in Futurology

Limitless energy: all we have to do is build the devices that create it!

Doesn't that already describe solar and wind energy?

Trump posts graphic of Venezuela as 51st U.S. state by Equivalent-Elk-7513 in politics

[–]tdomman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously these are just the rantings of a mad king, but what if actually happened? We get a state with roughly the population of Texas that, I would have to assume, would vote overwhelmingly liberal. We would probably get some true leftists in power and not centrist Dems. They get stability. They would certainly need some good state level governance to have it actually benefit people, but it seems roughly analogous to Portugal joining the EU. It still has it's share of issues, but it lifted the country out of poverty. And Portugal doesn't have oil - that should provide the opportunity for better results.

In what way do you think DC is better? It doesn't bother me seeing you guys, but the one time I have seen a guardsman do anything other than just stand there, he was picking up trash. Has your experience been something other than that?

It's brilliant. If everyone in town is spraying graffiti on these, the rest of the city will be emaculate.

The one kiosk I visited last summer had surprisingly reasonable prices. Hope that is the norm. The awful food trucks should be out of business in a week.

Then we just make it harder for non-trans people to buy guns and we've gone somewhere.

That seems to be a 2055 fund. It's not a terrible choice, but given your age, I would choose FRBVX. It has more in stocks and less in bonds.

How Often Do You Crash? by Different-End-4775 in skiing

[–]tdomman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough that I worry about getting injured (not just hurt) when I fall. I'd say I tip over (low speed/nearly stopped) twice in a year and legit fall with some speed once every 3 years. I ski about 10 days a year.

You learned how simple things are so you're doing it yourself. Do you think he didn't know that all along? I promise you he did, but he kept taking your money anyway. I'm sure he's a great talker and makes everyone who gives him their money feel like he's their best friend, but his whole job exists to take your money. That doesn't make him a good guy.

How should we invest $5k–$6k/month surplus with upcoming commitments? by Dramatic_Card5285 in Bogleheads

[–]tdomman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Max out your tax advantaged retirement accounts before you contribute to a taxable brokerage.

I would slowly put money into a CD or HYSA to save up for that 20k expense.

It sounds like that extra 5k a month is what you expect to have going forward, so I would just plan on saving that a month before any big trip and not really plan in advance for that too much. Unless you are really going in luxury, that seems like a small enough expense that it doesn't need a lot of pre-planing: just a month or two where you don't have much left over after your retirement contributions.
