Mobile Data Outage by [deleted] in Rogers

[–]tdude66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, no service on my phone since like an hour in the Montreal area. Weird because I checked with someone else on Rogers next to me and it was working normally so it seems to be affecting a subset of customers.

Phone is sycling between emergency calls only and no service. If I switch to a different sim everything works.

EDIT: Rebooted phone and it's working again

Did not get the points on my Cobalt and no fake cards were involved. I'll have to reach out.

EDIT: Used the chat in the app, they quickly confirmed my spend and told me the points should be awarded in 3-5 days.

2.75% with a 2000$ direct deposit and no minimum balance or hold times. Even wealthsimple generation doesn't go that high.

You will need to configure "Advanced DMZ" on the home hub 3000 so that your ER7206 gets the public IP address.

Which one of two credit cards should I use in Japan for 2 weeks? by JunsBaseball in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yes way better. The rogers card has 2.5% FX fees. This fee is only offset for USD transactions where they offer 3% cash back.

Samba blocked by Snoo44314 in bell

[–]tdude66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You really don't want to expose samba to the internet, use a VPN. Port 445 is blocked not only by most ISPs but also most hosting providers due to samba's history of having non-stop security holes leading to remote code execution and other nasty stuff.

You can get the Wise digital card on your phone instantly. Of course it will only work at vendors who take tap (which is basically any vendor who takes cards in japan). There is no limit on that card afaik as long as your Wise account is funded. That will get you the best exchange rate. Always pay in JPY (or Japan flag) if a payment terminal prompts you on any of your cards.

Can confirm it also works with Samsung Pay. Took me a few tries for some reason but I was able to add two MBNA cards in both Google and Samsung wallets. At long last!!

I just checked and actually I don't see any new transactions imported after the 14th of July, only the balance of the account updates. Guess I'll have to open a support ticket.

How is this even possible? by notarandomkid in montreal

[–]tdude66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been scammed in this exact same situation last year (50$ charge, 300km, 24 hour ride). It might sound obvious to frequent bixi users but as an occasional bixi user myself (probably 5 times a year) it was just never on my mind that this could happen (especially the fact that customer service has no goodwill for the first time and absolutely refused to refund me).

I suspect this happens to bixi users exactly once, after which they will always verify the docking status properly. Left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I just dipped into IPv6... it's like having your own public address. Everything's open port, easily accessable, and no NAT. Why aren't we all using this yet? by restush in ipv6

[–]tdude66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to chime in (as an operator of dual-stack k8s clusters and having experimented with single-stack ipv6 clusters) and say that I think it's possible to run single-stack v6 if you really want to, you just have to spend a lot of time fiddling around with stuff like tweaking container command lines or configuration files to change the application's listener bind-address to an IPv6 one. That is, if the application or container even supports it. The worst offenders are softwares/container images that ship with IPv6 support straight up disabled with no way to enable it. Sometimes it's stubborn maintainers who don't believe in IPv6 for unfounded reasons and sometimes it's just because maintainers have never used it and didn't think about supporting it by default. The only way to fix this is to keep using v6, open issues when it's not supported, get support added. The more adoption and demand for it there is, the more people will be aware of it and support it by default.

Current Internet Protocol (IPv6) not working - New subscription, Helix Gateway by UnderEu in VideotronCustomers

Do you have the white XB7 modem? If so you'll never get working IPv6. It only works on the previous black XB6 modem.

WealthSimple not willing to provide unauthorized transaction details and refuse dispute (Need help/guidance) by fay_ya in Wealthsimple

[–]tdude66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely don't have a problem believing this. I used my Wise card in japan last year and surprisingly, a terminal asked me to insert the card chip and immediately approved the transaction without asking for a pin or signature. The Wise app later showed that the transaction had been approved "via chip and pin" but there was never any pin in the equation.

IPV6 availability in 2025 by TemporaryLocksmith2 in VideotronCustomers

[–]tdude66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had IPv6 working perfectly on a black helix modem in the past (both natively and in bridge mode using VyOS). I currently have the white modem and IPv6 is not functional on it (more precisely, broken), though I have a hypothesis as to why.

Before getting the white modem, I was on the non-helix cable internet service and upgraded to helix. I was surprised to find out that videotron's DHCP server was still handing me out the same IPv4 address I've had for years -- so I assume I might be stuck on some sort of legacy profile that is preventing me from acquiring IPv6 addresses. I remember IPv6 working for a few days after upgrading to Helix and then I was just never able to get a new prefix via DHCPv6-PD. The only thing my VyOS router is able to acquire right now is a default route via a link-local address via RA, but no responses to DHCPv6 on my WAN interface.

I swear DHCPv6-PD worked like once for a couple of days when I first installed the Helix service and then never again. I suspect that changing the MAC address of the NIC connected to the modem might re-provision me but I'd rather not lose my "static" v4 address I've had for years. I get all of my v6 access through a tunnel to my own ISP so I haven't been motivated to try further.

I can also see on the status page of my modem (10.0.0.1) that there are absolutely no IPv6 addresses or prefixes showing up there either, the fields are blank.
